Great selection fish, many species not found in big box pet stores. I have always gotten friendly service and great advice.

Not one person greeted or asked if I needed assistance. Spent money there before and I same treatment.

I can't believe I haven't yelped about Moby Dick yet!! I've been coming here for a few years (as long as I've had my aquarium) and every employee I've spoken to has been helpful and appeared to enjoy answering my questions. From water tests, to adding frogs, fish, and plants to my aquarium, I've gotten plenty of help with it all! Also worth mentioning, not all the 'help' is selling me more stuff. Using a different water supply, different placement of my aquarium, and just general care schedules have been suggested as solutions to issues. They're always willing to talk fish, and look completely unruffled by my kids random interruptions and enthusiasm on the subject. We drive by a couple pet stores on our way, but for my aquarium I always go to Moby Dicks. read more

I've been coming to this store even since I was a kid and first started getting all kinds of animals and fish. I even used to sell them my baby cockatiels that would breed all the time way back in the day. The store is a small, but they have a great variety of fish from both freshwater and saltwater, and the fish are usually always healthy and well-priced. I've only had one or two times where I've bought Tetra's that have ich disease (which killed off my whole tank) BUT, the store was kind enough to give me a store credit for all my fish that died as a result of it which I greatly appreciated. I've also purchased a crested gecko from here who was from an owner who no longer wanted him, and he's been happy and healthy for the 3 years I've had him now. Love that little guy. They do have a small selection of reptiles and amphibians as well if you're not looking for anything fancy. If you know this store, then you know you really have to grab an employee in order to be helped since they're usually doing other things or busy. Once you get someone though they're pretty helpful in getting you what you need. You just can't be shy and have to be slightly forward when getting someone. My advice is to also come during the week and not the weekend when it's super busy. Side note: if any of your fish die from here, make sure you keep their bodies and receipt otherwise they will not give you a refund or credit (which makes sense obviously or people would lie). Overall, this is the main store I have always gone to and have been for the last 20 years. I hope they never close because they are MUCH MUCH better than any big box corporate store (which I despise) and seem to take way better care of their tanks and reptiles than any other store. Very busy Saturday. I felt like I was annoying the associate when I asked for help to buy a fish. I bought 2 and had to drive an hour back home. One of the bags started leaking 10 minutes in. Had to stop and buy bags to save the fish. One died today for no reason, had him 2 weeks. read more

Always looking forward to going here vast selection for freshwater and saltwater fish. Amazing staff who is happy to help to make sure each fish finds a proper home. Good prices and can't complain. Would recommend this place and worth the 40 minute drive to get properly cared for fish. read more

Let me start off by saying the workers are always nice and knowledgeable, BUT how they help people is chaotic and frustrating to say the least! Went in this past Sunday and they were busy as usual, waited half an hour, waiting for someone to help us, finally we were the last people back by the tanks and we thought, ok we're next and then another lady began to look at the fish so what did the next worker that came back there do? Yep walked right up and asked if he could help her! Seriously??? Maybe they need to figure a better system, like not walking the people and they're fish up to the register so you have 5 workers standing there. There is some long term employees there whose experience is worth the little extra you pay. The selection of animals is also massive compared to most other options in the area. One of the drawbacks is simply the size of the store. It's like a shoebox and it is an old building. As many other reviews have stated when it gets busy it can take a while to get help. DO NOT GIVE YOUR BUSINESS TO THIS STORE!!! I brought to an employees attention that one of their young ball pythons was EXTREMELY dehydrated, the other was becoming dehydrated, and one of their Russian tortoises was so lethargic and sick looking I didn't think it was alive. I soon realized it was barley alive when it tried to move and gave up laying in the same spot. I asked multiple question as to what was being done to care for these animals and if they are receiving proper veterinary care. I love this place... not so much for the fish, because I am not the type to take care of fish, but for the less aquatic pets. My mom and grandmother get all their fish and feeder fish from here and have done so for as far as I can remember. Ok, kind of afraid to admit this but touching fish freaks me out, especially when they flop out of the net onto the ground and you have to scoop them back up while they are still flopping... ugh. But this place has other pets too. I like to come here and look at the lizards and gerbils and other assorted critters that my apartment won't allow me to have. I bought a cockatiel from here and she is awesome. The price was fair, the supplies I need for my bird aren't expensive and the customer service is fantastic. Anyways, to make a long story short, no matter what kind of animal creeps you out (fish/hairless rats), they have another that you will love and they can get you the supplies for it at a nice price. read more

Been going to Moby Dicks Pets since I was a little kid. The staff are generally friendly but a lot of times you have to wait quite a while just to be helped. They have a great selection of livestock both freshwater and saltwater including some coral and live rock. Prices are average but some selections are a bit steep, however, I've found that sometimes they are willing to negotiate with you a little. Overall it's not a bad place that I'd def recommend at least checking out if you've never been before and might happen to be in the area. read more

I'm a new fish owner, and I went there to test the quality of my water. I've never felt so at home in a pet store before in my life. I was helped by two different employees and they were both very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. They were super friendly, and made me feel okay to have as many questions as I did. They helped me get everything I needed, and one of the employees actually wrote down everything I needed to remember on a piece of paper. I definitely will be returning to this store. read more

Every time I step foot inside this store it is a horrible experience. Never welcoming or friendly people that work there. Everybody that works there tells you different information that contradicts the other person. Today I took my 3 year old son in there to buy some leaves for his fish tank. We couldn't find the ones we needed and were circling around the store 3 times. Finally we went up to the desk where the owner/manager was sitting. He's looking down at a paper and doesn't even look up to acknowledge our existence. My son is being loud trying to squirm out of my hands and I say one second we need to ask this guy a question. I say "excuse me" and he doesn't look up. I'm literally 2 feet away from him. NEVER ACKNOWLEDGES ME. I said "never mind" to my son, "we're leaving". My family and I have spent so much money there over the years and none of us will ever step foot in there again. read more

This place used to be great,7 years ago,but REALLY went down hill. They say they have private breeders and the best for the animals that they get in,They don't! They drop whatever unwanted leftover small animals they have each of one sex of and, their "little experiment pets" are the unhealthy unfortunate result for the animal and the customer. Often times they will even toss more then two males in with a female, so that you don't even know who the true Father is of that batch and breed of animal! NONE of their animals are pure bred,they are ALL from people that just drop off their pets that they don't want anymore, and so you get whatever the male or (males) often two fathers of one batch,and female's babies are. It's very sad,because they used to get such high quality animals and from such great breeders who knew what they were doing, and now the staff there is so effing stupid,they have absolutely no idea what their talking about, when it comes to small animals, and they mixed this food right there in the store for My small animal and sold it as her food, which I took home, and I found out it had a componant in it that her kind of animal was allergic to, and she almost died and I was able to nurse her back to health.DO-NOT BUY ANY ANIMALS FROM THIS PET SHOP!!!!!!!!! read more

Worst customer service, be ready to wait and beg to be helped unless the owner is in. It doesn't matter if there are two customers or ten, service is bad. They are always cleaning tanks and avoid even saying hello most of the time. It is not uncommon to have 3 employees standing at register while you are waiting for water or other items. The floors are disgusting and always wet, ladders and hoses always in the small isle ways, makes it hard to get through and hard to see all tanks. They do have nice store tanks and decent prices on coral if you can get someone to help you. Could be a great place if they cleaned it and improved service. Fish and cleanup crew prices are high and they are always out of crabs and snails. One good thing is they will return a fish that died within a week with receipt and the owner is a super nice guy but unless he is working, forget it! read more

Used to be the 'go-to' place for all of Waterford/Clarkston area... has consistently slide downhill in my opinion. Crickets and mealworms are always half-dead, and their selection of fish is always overpriced. Usually takes a while for someone to help you, and most times you feel like you are annoying them...especially over the phone. Received a 20% coupon in the mail and went to make a purchase. The cashier asked if I would like to become a member and I said: "not at this time." I handed her the coupon, she said that I couldn't use it without being a member. I put the item back and walked out of the store. They lost out on a $30 purchase. They have a great selection of saltwater fish and fresh water. They even get in seahorses, which are hard to find. They have one of the best selections around. Their tanks are clean and well maintained. Their staff is knowledgeable as well. They have been around for as long as I can remember They also have some reptiles and hamsters. I read the bad views but decided to stay optimistic and visit anyways. I was very disappointed to see that a fish store would house their betta fish in such poor conditions. Kept in small air tight bags with little water that easily flop over; those that were not dead, were laying sideways struggling to keep themselves in the water with half of their gills exposed to the air. This place used to be clean and enjoyable to browse. Now I feel the place is trashy and nasty. One employee in particular wears shorts that are WAY too short to be in a professional work place. All she was doing was playing with the hamsters and did not once ask me if I needed help! I then over heard her talking to another customer and she was telling him the wrong information! I can not believe how down hill this place is. The reptiles and most fish tanks were pretty well kept. But the small animal section was disgusting! The glass was nasty the cages did not look clean and there was barley any water in their cages. Also they were labeled wrong it said males for the rats on one cage but there were babies in the cage...I don't know what is going on there but I was very dissapointed and I will never shop here again. read more

First off let me start by saying me and my wife are active fish enthusiast, and typically go to lfs 2-3 a week searching for new livestock for one of our 5 tanks. My wife and I are 25 yrs old. My experience was HORRIBLE at this store, upon arriving we browsed the non fish section in search for a new pair of lights, on the way to the back of the store I saw a older lady and smiled at her and said "hi how are you" she turned her head and walked away. Not thinking of it we approached the lift section as we started browsing a younger gentlemen came up with 2 customers behind him and stepped in front of my wife grabbed a set of $190 lights and began expressing how they were the best lights possible blah blah. Obviously trying to just sell them not telling him the truth (not blaming him it's a retail store) after standing behind this guy I told my wife lets go check out the live section and come back. After browsing every saltwater tank and finding a few corals I did like aprox $300 we waited until someone approached us to request them out. After another 15 min go by a younger female starts doing a water change on the goldfish tank instead of asking us if we need help!!!! So after 50min in the store with not 1 person acknowledging us or asking if we needed help we decided to leave. Very poor customer service, variety of corals were decent but alittle overpriced but good looking, and fish looked underfed and horrible. I do not recommend anyone experienced going to this store and let them continue to thrive on selling to newbies to support there business. Will never return again. Thier reptile section has definitely gone down hill in my opinion. Went in the other day and theres a sick animal in every other cage, baby snakes look terrible. Looks like they never clean the cages either. Too.bad, used to love going in there. read more
