I'm so glad Dogtopia exists!!! My dog absolutely loves to go!! Every time she goes to spend the day boarding or using the spa services, she loves it! The staff is always friendly and patient. The place is always clean, with four rooms for your pet to enjoy different activities and scenarios. They have special daily activities and take pictures according to the season or the theme. Love Dogtopia. Staff is great, the facilities are well kept and clean. They do a lot in terms of promotions and events, it's always fun to get a hilarious themed picture of your pup after a fun day :) Their prices are competitive and extensive hours are awesome. Their live streaming webcams are the best-- although I've wasted several hours staring at it watching my dog play and socialize with other dogs during work. It's hard to turn away sometimes, but so nice to be able to see what pups are up to while you're away from them! Really appreciate their transparency with this. read more

Dogtopia is filled with people who are compassionate and love our little ones! They have a person with the animals at all times so your baby is safe! They have themed days where they give you a picture of your dog that day with the theme too, which is cool. Ever since taking my dog (7 years old) to Dogtopia, his socialization skills have improved and he barks less at people too! When my dog had to have surgery due to a mass on him, the staff called to check on him!! Above average care for the animals that come to their facility. On Saturday 12/19/20, we made an appointment with Mariah for Monday 12/21/20 at 11:00am for a meet and greet. We live 4 1/2 hours away and needed a place for daycare and to board our dog while we came to town to see our new grandson. Based on previous experiences with Dogtopia in Munster, IN, we chose your business. There are approximately 10+ other options for Dog Day Care within 5 miles of my daughters home. When I arrived I was informed that they were not doing any meet and greets that day because it was their Christmas party. We never received a phone call to cancel the appointment, we drove there and were informed upon entering. There was no apology, no offer of assistance. This was so unprofessional and impolite. We had nowhere else to go at that point. Based on the lack of professionalism, we will not be willing to recommend Dogtopia to any family or friends. read more

We checked out some other places before choosing Dogtopia of Commerce. Now, we could not imagine taking our dog anywhere else! The people who work there are awesome, and you can tell they really love animals. I love that they have an outdoor play area as well as WebCams so we can watch them during the day. They have lots of parties for the dogs and send home lots of wonderful pictures for us. Our dog gets really excited every time we take her there. I would not recommend this place for dogs under a year or in training. My 10 month old boxer mix passed their temperament test with the staff as well as other dogs about a month or so ago and yesterday I was asked that I not bring him back. A few weeks ago I got a call that he had "nipped" the room attendant and she had gotten between him and another dog that went from playing to more aggressive/fighting play. I immediately apologized and asked if I needed to pay for any medical costs, or to come get him. The staff member informed the nip didn't break skin, that nips and bites happen it's a part of working with dogs in that environment. That they were just calling me because they know I watch the webcams and wanted to give me an FYI on why my dog would be in the crate for a while to calm down. When I picked him up that evening I once again apologized and even asked if that meant we couldn't come back. The manager assured me that they were use to it that sort of thing and that they are aware that he comes from a shelter situation and has not been socialized so they were willing to work with him. After that I always checked in on his behavior with the staff and constantly asked for tips. They assured me he was doing a lot better and about two weeks ago they tested him in a smaller amount of dogs and said "he did so great" in that situation. So I assumed from now on he would be in that same smaller group or in the "romper" room. Instead they put him right back in the room with a large amount of dogs. I received a call yesterday that he had once again gotten too rough and when the room attendant pulled him away he "nipped her" she then stated they had put him in a crate to relax, I had noticed that he had been placed in the crate at 10:30am (they called around 11:05am) I once asked is this person bleeding, the staff member said no she is fine but because this has happened before, we have a two strikes and you are out rule. Which is not in their paperwork at all. So she said he could stay for the rest of the day but that they were put him in a "suite" by himself but would take him out one on one to play/go outside. He was in a crate not a suite from 10:30am until 2pm. I picked him at 2:30 because I was not ok with sitting in a crate all day if I was paying for "open play". When I got to the commerce location I asked if the price could be prorated considering he had been in a crate since 10:30 and he was only there for 6 hours instead of the full 12. I was told that the front desk person talked to the managers and was told I had to pay for a full day. I then asked what happened as I want to fix my dogs behavior instead of bouncing around from place to place. I asked if this was because of nipping staff or being rough with the other dog. Front desk staff said it was getting in to the fight with the other dog. I asked what was happening when this fight happened. The front desk staff said "I'm not sure, the room attendant wasn't watching she just heard the after math and went to pull them apart and got nipped. We aren't sure if the other dog was humping him or if it was fight over a toy" So they could not even tell me what had actually occurred, I asked to speak with the managers that were there at the time so I could get some clarity and tips, I totally understand if my dog is not ready for an open play environment but I would like to know exactly what happened so I can work with him on it. I was told "they are in a meeting now but I can have them call you" I never received a call. The front desk staff put his t-shirt back on him (it's cold in the mornings here) even though I said she didn't need to because around 2:30pm it was a lot warmer. When I got my dog home and took the shirt off there were two puncture wounds in his side that were still bleeding. Previously they had always let me know when he got hurt and when you sign the paper work they do state that because of the environment there is the inherent risk of injuries from play and/or fights, etc. What bothers me is that no one seemed to care to tell me about it or to think that maybe that bite is what caused the play to get to the aggressive behavior. I know my dog isn't perfect and gets over stimulated in large groups but don't say you will "work with him" and two weeks later drop him because of some rule, that I was never warned about when the first nipping happened. Do not bring your dog here if you are not ok with injuries/scratches or if they are still a puppy. read more

I would never have imagined taking my dog to a daycare. But I have a 2-year-old pup named Sweetie, which I have had since she was about 3 months old. Two months after getting her, I was unable to train her and play with her as I with the dogs I have owned throughout my life. I stopped into Dogtopia to get the nails clipped of my two dogs and I inquired about daycare. I was blessed when I was told of a daycare promotion for the month (April) and I now take my pup to daycare almost every day. Sweetie is very much calmer, seems happier and follows commands much better. I am sure daycare is the reason. I have also been unable to bathe my dogs, after taking my dogs for nail trimming, I asked about bathing. Both my dogs a Bernese Mountain Dog mix and a Collie mix get nicely bathed and brushed at Dogtopia. The employees know my dogs and say hi to them by name. I am very happy with the service my dogs receive and the kindness to my dogs and me every time we are there. Thank You Dogtopia Commerce. read more

Never ever again! Not only did their inexperienced crew cause an expensive vet bill, but also pain and suffering to our puppy. Originally offered to reimburse us for the visit, never happened. What ever happened to integrity and taking care of your customers? That's what good business owners do. Tried 3 places before settling on a place for my pup, this was my least favorite of the ones I tried. Camp Bow Wow was much better, the staff were more friendly and the # of dogs in a room was less so they got more attention. Watching the webcam at Dogtopia the staff in the rooms look like they don't want to be there. I watched a lot and never saw them interact with the dogs or play with them at all. It's too bad because they are closest and most convenient to my house but my dog is worth better. read more

Dogtopia is a great, well-run, clean and fun environment for your dog. They really care for the animals and ensure that everything is wonderful. This has been great for my dog Bandit. He is only a year old and needs more exercise then I can provide. He has really come out of his shell since starting at Dogtopia (first at Bloomfield and now in Commerce).
