1 Star -- So Disappointed, Especially From a Restaurant I Loved…read more I am incredibly disappointed with my order from Pho Gia Vi tonight. After spending nine hours at the hospital waiting for my dad to come out of surgery, the one thing I was looking forward to was a steaming bowl of pho from what had been one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants. I spent extra for the short rib pho and had it DoorDashed to me. I also ordered the Bi Cuon--fresh spring rolls with pork and pork skin. I've always been very pleased with the pho here in the past, which made tonight even more disappointing. The spring rolls came two to an order. I cut them in half and discovered that only one of the four halves had any noticeable pork in it, and even that was a very small amount. The rest was basically stuffed with plain, unflavored rice noodles. Then I opened the pho. The broth container was only a little over half full. The short ribs were mostly bone, and after pulling off all the meat, I had barely 1/4 cup. There was also a lemon wedge instead of lime. I reheated the broth and poured it over the noodles, meat, vegetables and herbs, but there simply wasn't enough broth to make a bowl of soup. Instead, I ended up with a bowl of mushy noodles. The frustrating part is that the flavor was delicious, as it always has been. But delicious flavor doesn't make up for receiving so little broth and meat--especially when I spent nearly $50 between the food and having it delivered. I normally will not leave a bad review without first contacting the restaurant and giving them an opportunity to make things right. Unfortunately, that experience was even more disappointing than the food. The man I spoke with told me he had personally made my order and blamed the missing broth on the waitstaff who packed it. I explained that while that might account for the half-filled broth container, it didn't explain the lack of meat in both the pho and the spring rolls. He offered to give me more broth if I drove to the restaurant. I explained that I had used DoorDash specifically because I did not have a car available. At that point, he became angry and yelled, asking what I wanted him to do about it. I offered a very reasonable solution: I could come by the following day if he was willing to remake the soup. He refused and said he would only give me the rest of the broth. I asked, "Really? You're willing to lose a repeat customer rather than replace a meal that wasn't prepared properly, after I paid all that money to have it delivered?" He said yes and hung up on me. Mistakes happen. Restaurants have off nights. I can understand that. What I cannot understand is skimping on the main ingredients of a premium-priced dish and then treating a repeat customer rudely when she calls to resolve it. I ended up ordering another bowl of pho from Veranda Kitchen & Bar, and it was exactly what I had been hoping for in the first place. After years of enjoying Pho Gia Vi, I'm genuinely sad to say that from now on, I'll be going elsewhere for my pho.

My husband and I ordered an appetizer of summer rolls to start. They were well stuffed and large sized, 2 per order. The bun thit nurong was a huge portion loaded with seasoned pork, pickled radish carrots, slider cucumbers, lettuce, shrimp and noodles. The fried spring roll was crispy and flavorful. Highly recommend if you're in the mood for Viet cuisine.

Unfortunately, when my meal arrived, I took literally just one bite of the egg roll and immediately noticed that it tasted extremely sour and didn't seem fresh at all. I did not eat it after that one bite because I was concerned it may have been expired. I was especially disappointed because I had also placed a to-go order, so I didn't get the chance to enjoy my meal. The coffee was good, and I didn't mind paying for everything, but I do feel the situation should have been addressed by the restaurant. Even a simple acknowledgment or gesture would have made a difference. I appreciated the professionalism of the staff, but unfortunately, the food quality and the way the situation was handled left me disappointed.

And the plate of greens looked a little tired, like it had spent a bit too long in the fridge uncovered; some of the leaves and sprouts were starting to brown. Even the two slivers of lime were brown on the edges . They were also out of Thai basil. But then there's the broth. Deep. Rich. Layered. Whatever small shortcomings showed up today disappeared the second I started eating. It was absolutely delicious -- complex, savory, and exactly why I keep coming back. The place was packed on a Wednesday night. Lights too bright and noisier than usual. My server - a very sweet young guy - seemed overwhelmed and he never checked back in. I had to flag him down to get the bill. Still... when the broth is that good, the rest is inconsequential. Even on an "off" day, Pho 954 delivers where it counts. I stopped in after a certain political meeting on a weeknight to order at the bar. I noticed a…read morebartender who is not my fave here (meaning I do have a fave) was On Duty due to past inattentive service but was undeterred thinking I had time for delayed service and a certain degree of not paying attention (by bartender) because it was end of the day and I had no more rushing to do. The bar was pretty full so I encountered difficulty just trying to sit because one elderly female customer at bar had Laptop out and was talking loudly to clients on phone so was spread out and one on other side of where I thought of sitting had a huge suitcase style purse on one of the barstools next to her being unbothered she was taking up space where others may want to sit. Laptop lady realized I was in a predicament so moved over to allow me to sit somewhere. I stood waiting for her to move and wondered whether I could get the bar wiped down so I could eat in a clean spot at the counter (bar). Without my asking, the bartender appeared with a bar towel and wiped it down. I asked for a starter w/ steamed shrimp I normally get and was told "sure," The item was brought out and was good. I finished it and hoped for more service but by this point the bartender kept away. I waited awhile hoping for service. From a distance she hollered out asking whether I wanted anything else and I asked for two (2). Rolls. After ordering Rolls I became uncomfortable because the phone call to clients on my right seemed increasingly loud and, as if that wasn't enough, the person taking up two barstools on my left was also loudly talking on a cellphone. At that point I got up and moved to a high top to get away from the constant noise. I was more comfortable at the high top. I noticed when bartender brought the Rolls she seemed unconcerned over why Inchose to move from bar and had her thumb pointed way inside the plate of food she was serving instead of keeping it (thumb) at rim as is preferable in food service. It took a long time to get the check from bartender who I noticed had come out from behind bar to hug a male customer before going over to hug the female customer taking up two barstools. I just don't feel the love here and the food is meh.

Food looked good prepared but not as good as it looked. Many traditional Vietnamese and Chinese dishes served, but not close to authentically tasting. We had the General Tao's chicken which I personally think I've had better with an order of take out before. As for the pho noodle soup, broth was bland and seems like it was simple beef broth used from a can as it was missing lots of the depth of flavors and herbs like a real traditional pho broth should be. Both dishes tasted more commercialized than authentic. However service was fast and our waiter brought the food out timely despite being a busy night.

"Let's drive the extra 15 minutes, we haven't been there in several years."…read more Instead of our usual Pho Gia Vi, we decided to give Noodle House in Lauderdale Lakes another try. The main reason was one particular soup they serve that you don't see very often locally: Tom Cua, a crab and seafood soup with egg whites, surimi, shrimp, and I believe squid. It's a nice change from the usual pho options. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal reminded us why we haven't been back in a while. The restaurant was surprisingly quiet for a Friday night. The rocket shrimp appetizer had been overfried, the egg rolls in Rachel's bun dac biet were noticeably overcooked, and the grilled shrimp on top were dry from being cooked too long. My lemongrass beef arrived with far more onions than beef, and the beef itself was on the tough side. None of it was inedible, but compared with the consistently excellent meals we've had at Pho Gia Vi, it just wasn't close. The Tom Cua was the one dish that justified the trip, but everything else ranged from average to disappointing. I'm glad we went back because it answered the question of whether our memories were accurate. They were. We'll stick with Pho Gia Vi from here on out. It's closer to home, more consistent, and every visit leaves us happy.
