We made it in here a few minutes after they stopped serving breakfast. We were so disappointed because we wanted a few breakfast items. Our waitress was so kind enough to ask the kitchen if they could still take our order, which they did. We ordered the Atlantic Grille stuffed Quahog, which was soooooo good. It comes with hot peppers on the side, as well as sriracha sauce drizzled on the plate. It was spicy and so delicious. My boyfriend got the surfer's end, which came with 2 eggs, home fries, bacon and a Belgium waffle. This came with a huge portion of bacon. We'd pay extra for that as a side here in the city. I ordered the lobster roll, that came warm with a side of fries and coleslaw. The lobster roll was just okay and the coleslaw had a funky taste/smell to me but that's okay because everything else was exceptional. What a delicious choice for breakfast or brunch! The portions are HUGE so come hungry. I especially loved their combo options that provide a little bit everything. Also, if you're planning to go at a busy time, call ahead to provide your name and number in your party. Me and my family had come here in the past and had a good experience. however, it has seriously gone downhill. We ordered Cod, a lobster roll, and chicken Alfredo pasta. It took a very long time to prepare and the cod was very dry and tasted like it had been a few days old. It was a very small portion for 25 dollars. We are not the type of people to send food back but it was a large amount of money for something of terrible quality and ended up getting a grilled sandwich that was very difficult to eat. the Alfredo was very garlicky and buttery. Even when it was first brought out, it wasn't creamy whatsoever. The lobster roll was not of good quality either. The place was clean and temperature felt very nice. Oh man the wait here is always long. It's fine for a breakfast place but let me tell you- everyone else here is getting brunch too! Then you get frustrated because they don't tell you a certain area is seat yourself so you see others sit while you've been waiting for an hour. Or the hostess won't seat you even though you see a dozen tables open. Once you make it to your table there's a lot of options on the menu- something for everyone. Unfortunately some menu items are only served certain days of the week and for someone who loves eggs Benedict that's a bit of a deal breaker. But everything I've ever had here is good. Service was lickety split fast. Got my beer in nano seconds. Wait staff is super nice, very efficient & accommodating. I ordered a bowl of clam chowder bc I was famished. It was NOT broth based. It is the thicker based chowdah. An earlier review had said it was not thick & to die for. I thought it was good but not earth shatteringly amazing. I then opted for the baked sea scallops with mash & veggie medley. It was very good. The veggies were sautéed simply in evoo & herbs, & the red potato mash was simply prepared with a bit if cream, butter & salt. Visited Nov 12, 2023. Very busy local place. Be prepared to wait, it will be worth it. Trying to find parking is not fun. There is parking directly in front and a parking lot to the side, but it's packed! Ambiance is great. Family friendly, all ages were there. There is a full bar with seating at one end and tables and booths everywhere else. Pic posted is of the "Lobster Benny" (Benedict) special, but on grilled cornbread. There is another Benny that comes on the cornbread, but at a friend's recommendation I got the Lobster Benny on it instead of an english muffin. SO. GOOD. Some of the meals come with toast, home fries, and coffee/juice included. Meal portions are fairly large. They also offer iced coffee. The server (who I was told has been there for a long time) was attentive when she was around. We didn't really need anything else/extra and she didn't forget anything. She did ask how everything came out and didn't come back until she (maybe) noticed we were done. But a brief mid-meal check-in would've been nice. Otherwise, fantastic service, food and ambiance! Oh! The "Specials". Your server will not tell you about them. There is no special menu sheet provided. They are written on a chalkboard in the center section on the back wall. We called a few minutes in advance so didn't have to wait very long (they said it'd be a 20-25 mins wait but it was shorter). Great vibes and ambiance. But even better food! Breakfast at the Atlantic Grille ... cool location but maybe you might want to stop at Starbucks for coffee first. The coffee is really awful. The waitress was pleasant and nice. The breakfast was okay -- pancake had no flavor but they had an Italian chicken sausage which was very good. Nothing special. They need to work on the atmosphere though - the lights were up to full blast (like getting a tan while eating breakfast), there was women's cage fighting on the television (not that appetizing during breakfast) and there seemed to be a lot of staff not working (watching cage fighting). I haven't been to Newport for a long while since I moved and coming back with my fiancé to show her where I grew up. I missed this place so much so stopped for salmon pesto, fish and chips, and Philly nachos. Salmon was unseasoned, very bland and didn't like it. Fish n Chips was horrible and had a weird taste. Nachos were okay, but when we asked for the bill we still had most of the food that we ordered since we didn't like it. This is a busy place for Sunday brunch, but luckily we found seats at the bar and got to bypass the long line waiting for a table. I am a lobster roll lover, and in Newport I could not get enough of them. While the menu offers the classic lobster roll chilled with mayo, the restaurant was kind enough to accompany my special request and made the lobster roll warm with butter instead. On the weekend however the place is always packed with no more than a 45 min wait. Is it worth it? Yes, and here's why...the food is amazing! I have never been let down by the food when ordering here. The Bennies served only on the weekends are fantastic; two perfectly poached eggs covered with a house made hollandaise sauce to die for. Depending on which variation you get, I like the Farmers Bennies, your plate is filled to the brim with meats or veggies or corn hash etc... Today I ordered from the specials menu and found myself fork deep in a lobster omelette so good I wanted to personally thank the chef. She struggled to keep up and as a result, our appetizer was left in the warmer/oven too long. We had the nachos and our chips were soggy and the cheese was burnt. Burger was okay, clam chowder was like gravy, seemed as if it wasn't fresh (had been reheated a few times). The salmon salad had way too much going on with it. Salmon, mango salsa, dried cranberries, too much feta, and dressing. The flavors are not complementary together. We had to return to the restaurant afterwards to retrieve an item we left behind. At that time, the staff made comments about the lack of organization there and agreed that the food was not good. Solid stop for a hearty breakfast. Their bar was open and packed, so I'd guess that they have great morning beverages, too! I went this morning with a party of 4. We arrived on a Saturday at around 11am and were seated without too long of a wait (it's the off season). We all ordered something different, and we all liked our meals. The meals are big - I got a meal with two eggs, two slices of bacon, hash browns, and two pancakes, and I ended up with four slices of bacon, two gigantic pancakes, and plenty of everything else. Service was prompt and the restaurant is clean and cared for. It was pretty loud because it was crowded. My husband ate in the bar with a larger group a few mornings ago and he said it got a little loud in there, too. The menu is extensive enough to have a little of everything. We def recommend the grilled Portuguese muffins, which is like a large, sweeter English muffin. Really good and a local fave. We will definitely be return customers! read more
