I got an everything bagel with egg, cheese and avocado (note, they don't have fresh avocado, it's just guacamole) and then a side of macaroni salad. I feel like it's necessary that I update my review about my hometown bagel spot. Although they do still have great bagels, the service has plummeted down hill over the last several years. It went from sometimes being hit or miss with getting something about your order wrong, to now usually always getting your order wrong, waiting there forever to pick up food and hearing the chaos of the workers yell about what's going wrong. I along with most people seem to do door dash pickup these days at Atlantic bagel because I would assume the thought is, it's written down for them thus hard to screw up and it will be ready when you go pick it up. Well the last two times I have done DoorDash pickup there, neither of these were the case. I still waited over ten minutes on a simple bagel sandwich order that I placed over 25 mins ago and there still wasn't things on the sandwhich, that I had paid for! It's like they're not even trying anymore and it's definitely not just me, I see it and hear it with other customers in there. It's just a shame to see such a staple of a place that has good food just continue to provide this bad of service to its loyal customers. If you're thinking of going to Atlantic bagel, make sure you don't have to be anywhere anytime soon and you sit down and eat it in there so you can make sure everything you ordered is correct. read more

After trying several bagel spots when visiting Jersey and left unhappy I stumbled onto Atlantic Bagel. I noticed in the kitchen (in back) that the bagels were made fresh on the premises (positive sign number one). Offering pretty much every variety of bagel to choose from (positive sign number 2). The staff of ladies behind the counter handled the crowds of customers with ease. I ordered a sesame bagel with cheese and well done bacon, my friends ordered everything bagel and one onion bagel with lox & cream cheese (it also had thin sliced red onion and mini capers). Offering seats for roughly 25 which include tables and a few window seats this place is a popular spot in NJ and I can see why....it gets 10 out of 10 from me. The bagels are amazing. read more

Maybe it's post-covid, maybe it's staffing shortages but I dunno, things just haven't been great here lately. The bagels are still good, but the other day the forgot to put egg on three different sandwiches, I mean while putting this together they thought, just bacon and cheese on three different sandwiches? I double checked my order and I definitely ordered egg sandwiches too. But that is just carelessness, and when you wait for an order for 45 minutes, you'd think the egg would be on there. Especially when you see a bunch of staff sitting there texting, etc. I know they aren't all line cooks but c'mon guys. The pick up, my god. No one who has pre-paid for an online order should have to wait in a massive line. This isn't difficult, just put the pre-paid orders up on the counter or on a table and people can grab them and go. I just don't understand why they haven't figured that out yet? There is literally a sign that says grub hub pick up but never any food there, it's all behind the counter. We were looking for some authentic bagels (not bread-shaped-in-O's like you get at grocery store) and saw this bagel shop on First St. They closed at 2pm so we missed them but came back next day and glad I ignored recent reviews. The bagels were great and the ladies behind the counter could not have been nicer and more friendly. Bagels are good but service especially pick up is not. I always give businesses the benefit of the doubt when taking orders over the phone especially when I know there are customers at the store. However,when you're on hold for 10 minutes on two separate occasions and you hear the workers in the background just chatting it up and essentially forgetting you're on the line waiting that is rude! In the past when they actually did take my order on the phone I had to go back because of missing items. The bagels are decent here and it's convenient for me but what really irks me about the place is how disgustingly dirty it is. There are always a lot of people working behind the counter and some of them should be put to work cleaning once in a while. They certainly do a brisk business but come on - the outside and inside windows are gross and look like they haven't been washed in years. This place hasn't gotten an order right in I don't know how long I usually deal with it but today I ordered a sausage scrambled egg and cheese on a sesame bagel it was good until I open the sandwich and the top half of the bagel was missing how can you make a sandwich without the top of it I did not order an open faced sausage egg and cheese this place has been consistently going downhill I don't know if I will give them another try or not. I came here for the first time a few weeks ago and WOW it's so good! I got an egg sandwich with bacon and it was SO FRESH. They really know what they are doing! Great little find with excellent friendly service and a huge variety of sandwiches and bagel options. The everything bagel has salt on it which is a rarity these days. And I ordered my with lox spread. They were running low on lox spread so the gal was sweet enough to throw some lox on the bagel. Super delicious. I'm a regular here and it used to be great. I like to call in my order because I would find it the easiest way and they would put me on hold for 5 minutes tops. The past few times I've called in the order I have waited over 20 minutes sometimes with the phone calls even dropping. I get being slammed I work in the industry but to put someone on hold for over 20 minutes without checking in is just not okay. Take a few orders then go back to the phone and take the order quickly. Bagels are good. They are inconsistent however. One day amazing and one day stale and not good. I suspect they save bagels overnight versus making fresh. The service needs help. You can be on a line of 5 people with 5 people behind the counter and it is chaos. They need to upgrade their ordering and purchase systems. You can also be waiting for 10 min and someone calls in and they get priority. Frustrating. Many times I just leave and go get something else ware. Also they need to clean the place up. Every time I head down to New Jersey to spend time with my man when he can take a day off from working on the ship, I have to go to Atlantic Bagel Company for my morning bagel and coffee. And everytime its the same order...Everything Bagel with cream cheese. I wish more places would make their Everything Bagel like ABC....with SALT! It's just another crunch to the garlic pieces, poppy seed and seasame seed that make me say yum. One drawback, but could be a plus and you learn as you continue to order....they love to put the cream cheese on the bagels...as in no skimping on the cream cheese. I happen to like it and will spread it out a little more, but for some it could be a little much. I have been going here for years and stopped in for a sandwich the other day. I was waiting a very long time (they were not busy). I looked over the counter and noticed the young woman who was making my sandwich was wearing only one glove on one hand. When I saw her brush her hair back twice with her ungloved hand and then touch my sandwich, I felt sick. I asked her why she was not wearing two gloves she said she had not touched the sandwich with her ungloved hand, which I had just seen her do with my own eyes. How do you make a sandwich with one hand? She got very annoyed and asked if I wanted her to make the sandwich again. Should that have been a question? Making food with hair falling in her face? Five stars for the bagels, minus 1 star for being cash only. This is a big pet peeve of mine. I know there's an ATM in the store (in fact, there are 2) but I also know there's ways around setting up an entire credit card system (ie, Square card reader). Anywho, I digress. Back to the bagels. Improvements needed urgently: - hygene - place's been here a while and you can tell! Needs a serious cleanup and maybe upgrades on some equipment where it is visibly worn and dirty. - service - everyone who works there are trying but somehow they can not manage to get faster. Seems like there are enough employees to take orders quicker and execute them faster... Redundancies like take your order on a notepad and then ring it again on the POS. Maybe needs 1 more pos then 2 on a busy day. I also see employees just hanging while some elderly employees are busting their ass to help out and get orders and some seems technology challenged when operating the pos system. Everything multi-grain is the best. We also like the buttered rolls. Bagels are a decent priced and delish, best in the area after "Hey Daddy" closed. The girls behind the counter take a minute to acknowledge you after you walk in the door so just be patient with them until they finish their conversations with each other. Also, don't try to go on Saturday or Sunday from about 7am-10am... you'll be standing in line forever! Love this place and will definitely return. read more

Stephanie and the other ladies working there are so friendly, they greet us by name and always check to see if it's the usual order (turkey, egg whites and tomato for my husband, egg whites and tomato for me)!
