My whole family (kids included) has been under the care of AFP, spearheaded by Dr. Atkinson for over 20 years. I haven't had any other PCP. The care provided at this practice is excellent and Dr Kate is truly exceptional. They following their patients with long term health conditions very well but also follow up quickly in emergencies. Office experience is not perfect but works well enough. It is obvious they care for all people regardless of race, sex, sexual orientation. I highly recommend. read more

i've had many doctors over the years, but this practice certainly pays attention to the details that matter. I see my family members that go to other practices and they're always calling for one thing or other. Poor diagnostics. Offensive personality. Really poor judgement. I woukd rather have no doctor.

I'll start off by saying our specific doctor, Alexis, is kind, empathetic and we have zero complaints about her. However the overall practice, especially reception, do not share the same qualities. Before you join, please read our situation and decide if this is a "family practice" you want to join. Our son just turned 11 months and spiked a fever of 104.2, so we scheduled a an appointment the next day (we weren't able to see how normal doctor) to check for an ear infection. The doctor stated he did not have an infection, it was most likely a viral infection but his temp was trending down that day and he was probably on the mend. Within 24 hrs of that appointment we have received multiple calls and even email from Isabella and reception about scheduling his next wellness visit, since he had not been in for a weight / height check for 7 months (even though we had never been reached out to or even told that was an issue or concern by the practice or our doctor) While discussing this with reception, and then Isabella, we expressed we'd like to decline the appointment as we don't see the value in his height and weight being checked because we already track this at home, know his percentile, and consistently track his motor and cognitive milestones with other professionals. They then expressed multiple times that if we did not schedule a mandatory wellness check, we would be kicked out of the practice. Even though they positioned it as "in the best interest for Levi" and coming from a place of "we're worried about Levi", they never once asked how he was doing since his last appointment. No empathy or concern about if his fever has improved, etc. I was told once a child is 1 they are only required to have one checkup a year, he turns 1 in 4 weeks - but for some reason if we do not schedule an immediate appointment, we are in risk of being thrown out of practice. I guess if we don't bring our healthy child in multiple times a year, they refuse to see and help him when he's sick? If you ask me it's a money grab. The office is full of passive aggressive signs from - how they won't provide masks (which cost 20 cents) and if you don't have one you'll be charged a cancellation fee.... To how they refuse to call people to remind them of their appointments, etc. We joined Atkinson because we heard praise but reception treats the parents as if you have zero ability to care for your child and constantly belittle and question you if you don't do exactly what they say. I wish Alexis would start her own practice or go somewhere that doesn't fall into the stereotypical medical industrial complex of treating humans as cash cows and actually focused on empathy and working WITH patients instead of speaking down to them. We gave birth at seven sisters midwifery and the experience with our checks ups and delivery there was night and day compared to Atkinson. If you think for yourself and want a doctor who will respect you and as a parent and work with you, consult with you, and help guide you... and don't want to be threatened to be kicked out of practice 24hrs after your child was in there for a 104+ fever ....this is not the place for you. read more

This place is so bad I had to review it in two locations, google, and yelp: This place is clown shoes. I have had to have an appointment every month to secure a prescription that costs less than 5 dollars. It seems like they're taking advantage of me and my insurance. To top it off, I've been waiting over a week to have a prescription filled, called twice, and waited well over 10 minutes on hold only to not be able to reach a receptionist, and now finally when I get someone on the phone I'm told their new policy is to have pharmacies reach out to them to have prescriptions filled when asked whether a notification went out to patients making them aware of the new policy, I was told that they are notifying patients as they call in (wondering why the prescriptions are not getting filled) which is unbelievable. I can't get out of this practice quick enough! All that after losing 2 PCPs in a year, one of which, again, I received no prior notification. ie: Me: why won't my prescription get filled? Response: your PCP left the practice. Me: what?! While I don't see Dr. Kate unless there's something big happening, I love her PA Miranda, who I see every time. She listens well, and is empathetic, and I never dread going to the doctor anymore. As someone with 36+ years of experience in health care, I am always impressed by the knowledge, skill, compassion, and efficiency of all of the staff, whether it be in person, on line, or over the phone. I can only imagine the many challenges of providing excellent primary care in the current health-care environment, especially during a pandemic. At AFP, it is accomplished and done with a smile. The RN - inexperienced, mistakes happen - gave me a tetanus shot too close to my shoulder, resulting in bursitis that required physical therapy and orthopedic help. Although the office admitted their mistake, and the orthopedic concurred with the diagnosis, they refused to waive the bills for the 2 follow-up apts that they asked me to come to address their mistake, and treated me like I was the villain. I still have shoulder limitations. Where is common decency and compassion? Not at this clinic apparently. read more

I have been a patient at this practice for several years now. Recently, I have had financial hardships due to a divorce and was behind on co-pays for my appointments. I had made arrangements which fell through one time and got a letter stating I needed to find a new provider for myself and my family. I am very disappointed that this practice puts money over a person's health especially when they have been paid a lot of money from my private insurance, only missing a few co pays. They preach that they are compassionate and integrative; however, the practice understands very little about patient care, customer satisfaction and ethical practices of causing more harm than good. I would recommend that you consider going to a different primary care because it is very frustrating starting over when they literally dump you after years. read more

Worst experience meeting with a doctor I've ever had in my life. She's rude, condescending, arrogant, and didn't look at me the whole time. She brushed all of my symptoms off as anxiety the first time I met her. I was silly not to look up reviews about her before I met her.
