Made a taco. Recommendation of the owner!
Ana F.

Great food! Great service! The location is kind of hidden. It's inside a commercial area right next to a gas station on telegraph. The chicken katsu is crispy! Tender! And juicyyyyy. Honestly really a must check out!

This is a hidden gem. Got the half chicken teriyaki and bulgogi plate with rice, salad, and maxaroni and also got some bulgogi kimbap. Also got plate 22 and i cant remember the name of the meat but its tender, juicy and flavorful. The spot is clean and they were so kind and welcoming. Will be coming back again!

The service is very amazing, and welcoming. It's a little hole in the wall but super delicious to try! I was impressed by the atmosphere of the environment, its clean and has a great outside patio. Thank you for the free chicken katsu. Will definitely come back for more!! (:

What a gem! This place is so good and the service was impeccable!! In the pictures you'll see a beautifully plated chicken katsu! And teriyaki chicken plate. Can't wait to come back. Reasonably priced as well. Perfect for lunch!

They noticed my shirt and were thoughtful enough to put Sailor moon on tv.

So I went into my trusty Yelp and found this place. Going here was a great decision because we have been good customers ever since. PARKING: It has never been an issue to park here because if the above ground level parking is all taken, there is underground parking with a good amount of parking spots. WHAT WE ORDERED: As you can see from my pictures, my mom, g/f and I have ordered a lot of different things on the menu. Some of them are no longer on the menu, but wished they would have kept it. Some of the hits include: - Bossam with the pork belly (putting in the spicy radish, baby shrimp and garlic are a must!) - Any of their soups (the kalbi tahng and soon dae soup (soon dae only for me because the other pig parts are a bit too chewy) - their cold buckwheat noodles. On a hot day they put some soup flavored slush so keep the dish cold. - their soft tofu soup (soon doo boo). You can't go wrong with the various flavors that they offer. - Their pork neck soup - With winter fast approaching (hopefully because of this stupid Super Duper Extraordinary El Nino What I also really like is the fact that they have items that are good/catered to both summer and winter, so despite it being a blood sausage place (soon dae), they have other things on the menu that are quite good! VERDICT: As previously mentioned, my mom, g/f and I have been good customers of this place and will continue to go here. The family that runs this place are awesome. The wait staff are nice and attentive and the food are a chef's kiss! SIDE NOTE: Another great thing about this place is the fact that there are a great number of places down the street that you can go to for dessert: Paris Baguette, Old Ferry Donut and Bopo. So whether you are on a date or with a group of friends, there are options for an awesome 2-cha.

The interior was clean and spacious, with a laid-back ambiance that made for a relaxed dining experience. Our meal kicked off with an assortment of banchan that was incredibly fresh and easily among the best I've had. Unfortunately, the service was disappointing. We had to flag down the staff a couple of times, and toward the end of our visit, our bill was carelessly tossed onto the table, which felt rather dismissive. **Kimchi Tofu Soup: 5/5** Bubbling hot upon arrival, the soondubu was hearty and deeply comforting from start to finish. The broth was bold and savory, with the kimchi contributing a sharp, fermented sourness. Silky soft tofu and thinly sliced beef were both generously portioned throughout. Served in a stone pot, the rice developed a scorched layer at the bottom with a distinctly toasted flavor and satisfying crunch. A word of caution: the highest spice level packs some serious heat that builds quickly, though I still thoroughly enjoyed the intensity. **Bulgogi: 4/5** Grilled to perfection, the bulgogi was tender and juicy, with a pronounced umami depth complemented by a light, nutty aroma. Its sweetness, however, was a tad overpowering for my preference. **Spicy Pork: 5/5** Succulent pieces of pork were stir-fried in a gochujang-based marinade, with a sweet heat that lingered pleasantly on the palate. On the sizzling platter, the edges caramelized beautifully, imparting a subtle smoky char that added complexity and richness to the dish. **Bibim Naengmyeon: 4/5** Cold and refreshing, the bibim naengmyeon featured bouncy, chewy buckwheat noodles generously coated in a sweet and tangy chili sauce, topped with sliced daikon and cucumber for a crisp textural contrast. My only minor complaint was that the noodles weren't cut, making them somewhat difficult to eat. Despite some issues with hospitality, the quality of the food more than made up for it. A Ri Rang Tofu House has definitely earned a spot in my rotation whenever I'm craving a soothing bowl of soondubu.

I had a good experience at Don Katsu (Montebello). I ordered the Seafood Katsu Lunchbox ($18.97)…read more It includes three breaded jumbo shrimp, two breaded fish filets, rice, macaroni salad, salad, and tartar sauce. It's A LOT of food!! I had plenty of leftovers! (Quick Note: This business is located inside the Montebello's Mall Food Court. It's a food stall.) I arrived at Don Katsu (Montebello) on a weekday. Parking is very easy. Since it's located in the mall's food hall, it's near an enormous parking lot. Staff is professional, friendly, and diligent. Staff (receipt says Bere) worked hard. The food was cooked to order, and the food took about 10 minutes. As mentioned, I ordered the Seafood Katsu Lunchbox ($18.97). This meal can easily feed two people. I especially LOVE how the meal was breaded and fried perfectly. The breading was crisp, flaky, and fresh. The meal also had wonderful good quality, thick shrimp. TASTY!! However, the fried fish filets were lackluster, the fish came hot and a bit mushy. It tasted like the generic warmed up pre-frozen filets from Trader Joe's. The rice came lukewarm, but I appreciated how the salad tasted fresh and clean. The macaroni also had a pleasant light tang. Although I wouldn't reorder this meal, it's a satisfying budget meal. On ambiance, Don Katsu (Montebello) is unmemorable since it's a food court. However, the location felt clean and well tended. Also, I appreciate how this stall is near a cylinder with electrical plug outlets and the mall's restroom area. I felt safe as I ate. Overall, Don Katsu (Montebello) is a wonderful destination for hungry customers on a budget. The food is HUGE, and there's effort in the meals. Although the ingredients didn't feel the freshest, it's still a clean & satisfying choice. If hungry and nearby, I happily recommend. 4.6 out of 5

As for the food, the chicken and pork katsu were both breaded nicely and the meat was tender and not too dry. I did wish they used the regular "brown katsu" sauce that you might get at other restaurants (such as ono-hawaiian bbq). I didn't really like the two sauces they gave you cuz I felt they were too creamy for the meal. The macaroni salad was also more on the sour side. I think the meal requires something sour or acidic to cut up the heaviness, but I think that's what the kimchi and pickled jalapenos are for. I would prefer the macaroni salad to be less sour. Overall I think it's good value for the price but I don't think the flavors are for my taste.

I suggested this place to my friends for a dinner meet up and was pretty embarrassed how I raved about it but this location totally SUCKED!! Should of realized that there was literally no wait on a Friday night even on Yelp wait list. Start of with the food... Prices are more expensive than their OC location. At least $2-$3 pricier for a plate. The food was underwhelming for the price tag. The quantity is less than their other locations. The taste was so bland!!! Banchans was underwhelming too. The selections was something we didn't want a refill on, maybe that's what they wanted? Lol. We ordered the MUSHROOM CURRY. Tasted like those packaged curry house from the market, aside from that, the curry sauce was more runny than thick. $2 extra for an overcooked egg. I ordered the brisket hot stone. $2 extra for an egg ad well. This was what I was craving so bad, and so disappointed I wanted to cry! BLAND! BLAND! BLAND! The hot stone pot obviously was not hot enough or the rice cooked with too much water because I wanted crunchy rice did not even came close to crunchy, even after I left ot on the hot plate for 15 minutes. The plate was kind of wet/moist and it was like steaming it on a hot plate and that's it! The $2 extra for an egg was overcooked on all 3 entrees. Isn't the yolk supposed to be a bit runny to cook on the rice?? My friensd ordered the bimbimbap and asked for no spicy because she can't handle any spice. Waitress said "OK" whatever that means, but failed to address the Kimchi was on the plate. The Kimchi is spicy, could of swapped it out with something not spicy but she never mentioned it. Hot stone on this plate was useless. Never crunched up the bottom of the rice. Instead tasted like steamed veggies with soggy rice. The best thing on the table was the japchae which they forgot about it and brought put to my other friend when the rest of us were almost done with our plates probably 15-20 minutes AFTER the rest of us got out food. No apologies, no acknowledgement. Just said, let me check on it TWICE! Japchae was good but a little to greasy from the sesame oil. Customer service was only non existence, no smiles, no emotions. We felt like us being there was a bothersome. Really? Business for you seemed bothersome! The water was room temperature water, and never came back to refilled it. Service kind of just vanished and took awhile to flag them down to get the anything and the check. Parking could be a nightmare. Street parking only or park at near parking structure for $10- $15 with some walking to get there. We were lucky, found street parking down the street. I could not expressed enough how numb I am feeling with this location and I will never return again!! Go to their Buena Park location where waiters know about their food. Where service is so much better with smiles and because they actually come over to mix your hot stone pot for you and gosh, my gosh, food is so much more delicious. Bigger portions and and prices are lower and THE RICE ACTUALLY GOT CRISPY on the hot stone pot. Lots of free parking too, but they are busy and wait on a weekend could be a little bit long.
