One of my injuries was a fractured clavicle. After weeks in a splint, my shoulder joint needed therapy to increase movement. Stephanie helped with some very necessary passive movements of my shoulder. It was intense but felt much better when I left my sessions. She was knowledgeable, pleasant and easy to work with. I now have just about normal shoulder function and am working on my daily exercises that she provided me with. I was overwhelmed with trying to make a choice of where to go for therapy. I have nothing but great experiences at this Athletico this year. After a labrum tear, I started PT pre-surgery so that I could strengthen it before the big day and make recovery easier. Bibin, my PT, was such a delight. I loved working with him and loved going in to my sessions and immediately felt better. After surgery I have been working with Stephanie, and I cannot also say enough nice things about her. I'm the most anxious when it comes to injuries/illness and she has been nothing but reassuring and has put my mind at ease so many times. She's also great at working with me to have exercises to do at home that are interesting and useful. Finally, Kayla is a freaking rockstar. Scheduling, insurance issues, you name it, she's always on top of it. She even figured out my insurance company had screwed up my birthday and let me know. I owe a lot of my recovery to her navigating the insanity that is the American Insurance system. read more

I went for several weeks of sessions and saw very little relief from the pain I was experiencing in my hip. On the last session, I was handed off from the therapist I was seeing to someone else who wasn't licensed to do the kind of therapy i had been receiving (dry needling) which did provide a little bit of short term relief. I went through with the session and went home feeling worse than I when I'd arrived. There was very little supervision during the exercise session. After that I decided I was done with Athletico. To add insult to injury, when I got my bill I found out the last physical therapist I saw was more expensive than the first because of the way athletico codes their bills, and they are unwilling to do anything about it. I switched to a different physical therapist, they quickly diagnosed the issue and I saw immense relief in a single session. I went to athletico because it's close, but I'll never go back and I'd recommend everyone to stay away. read more

This is a life changing place. I fell 4 weeks ago. I severely bruised my knee. Waited two weeks before my youngest daughter called and got me an appointment. Martha has been my therapist. She has improved my mobility and pain 1000%. I have seen her two times a week and her exercises, massages, rolling on the knee and quads are all the reason. She rotates the exercises so it is not boring and she is a total delight. If you fall or hurt something go to them. They will let you know about insurance with a free assessment. As a traveling performer with a worker's compensation claim, I've seen my fair share of physical therapists. The entire staff at Athletic is nailing it--organized, friendly, knowledgeable and having fun. I worked with Krystal (forgive my spelling?) and she did more for my injured hamstring in 3 days than other PTs had done in 6 weeks. Athletico really helped me out both short and long term. I had rolled my ankle skateboarding and was looking around for an elastic resistance band to work on stretching it out. After a fair amount of searching (online and by phone calls) it became apparent that this is not an easy item to replace in Milwaukee. I remembered walking past Athletico on my way to school and wondered if, just based on their name, they might know what I needed. Did they ever! The receptionists themselves immediately knew what I was talking about and would have sold me this item on the spot but instead suggested I take advantage of their free consultations with Luis, one of their physical therapists. After an appointment the next day I had my equipment, an assessment of the damage/problems (Luis really took into consideration my history of ankle injuries/viewpoint about this.), and a clear set of instructions for working the ankle/leg/hip back to 100%. After I broke my arm at the shoulder, my doctor referred me for physical therapy. I was extremely sceptical -- how could a few hours a week be helpful? But, since I couldn't open a soda can or button my coat without help, I was willing to try anything. But Athletico made me a believer. Athletico on Downer Avenue is a short walk from my house, a good thing since I couldn't drive for almost four months. They keep formalities and paperwork to a minimum, so I never felt overwhelmed with insurance claims or payment hassles. Eight months after the injury, I have almost normal range of motion in my arm and shoulder. I found Athletico so comfortable and friendly. Tom Brice, the physical therapist I worked with, was excellent. At first, he was respectful and reserved, just about right for someone 30 years my junior. But as we got to know each other, we enjoyed chatting and cracking jokes. He knows how to push without being pushy, a remarkable skill. When I finished physical therapy, I joined a fitness center and Tom came by to give me suggestions about how to continue improving my arm function. I really feel that Athletico is THERE for me. Tom Brice and Luis Rivera, the manager, both kept track of how I was doing. Tom not only encouraged me, but also challenged me, every session. They're real pros. I hope you never need to rehab from an injury, but if you do, Athletico is top notch, and Tom Brice is a PT rock star! read more

Recently I sent my son there after a bad bicycle accident. I am so impressed with the quality of care and compassion that the Doctor of Physical Therapy had administered to him. THANKS TO SAM I walked into Athletico Eastside Therapy as a dumb, old, fat man who tried to run 5 5Ks in a week after a year of inaction. Needless to say, I injured myself to the point where I was having trouble walking up stairs and getting in and out of my car. I need to exercise because I have issues with anxiety and depression and "running" does me a lot of good. So I felt lost and frustrated. I did not know if anyone would take my problem seriously or write me off as a fool who got what he deserved. I did not choose Sam. But I am glad I found her because from day one she treated me with respect and kindness. While working on basic stretching exercises, she asked me questions about my life, my four kids, even my dog. In short, she treated me like a human being. Sam gave me a stretching and workout plan that I will use the rest of my life. I had not done any stretching since 1975 when I played baseball for Dominican High School, so what she was offering was revolutionary. Because all my defenses were broken down by her genuine concern, I gladly accepted her proposal. Slowly but surely, the mobility in my knees improved and I became strong enough to be able to balance on either foot for thirty seconds. Riding the exercise bicycle two miles a session and increasing weight on the leg press gave me hope and confidence. I am ready to go back to the Downtown YMCA and take advantage of the various machines to which Sam introduced me without fear that I will overdo it and find myself back in the same position. I admire Sam for many reasons, such as the fact that she volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House working with children and families awaiting surgery. When the treatments ended, Sam said I could call her anytime with updates and problems that may develop. I totally recommend Sam Bielen to anyone with physical problems who need to be treated with compassion and dignity.
