In addition to fairly new models of all the standard equipment, they also have a couple Peloton bikes - you can sign up for your own account but you don't have to pay anything extra to do classes on the bike, you just log in when you use it and log out when you're done. It's nice to be able to try it out or do rides occasionally without having to go all in on purchasing a bike! Management is easy to reach via email and have always been quick and responsive when I had questions. The building is easy to access with a code, and I didn't mind there not being any "onsite" staff. Parking on the street can be a little tricky since it's at a busy intersection, but I could usually find something a little further up the hill depending on time of day. So walking or public transit might be preferable for getting there. If you are going to be driving primarily, the street parking at the Beacon Hill location is easier in my opinion. Also note that while they do have 2 locations, a membership that gives you access to both gyms (dual membership) costs more than a membership to a single location. But switching our membership from one to the other was simple to do via email.

Cheers to ECA Columbia City!…read more Starting with the Mission, Vision, and Values statement clearly displayed on the wall, this place "brings it" every day. I've been a devoted gym rat my entire life, and I've been a member of or visited hundreds of gyms across the country. The EAC in Columbia City matches the best of any of them. Their free weights, weight lifting machines, and cardio equipment, are all up to date, and both varied and plentiful, so waits are minimal. And their Champions area is both spacious and well equipped. But it all starts with their people. Starting at the front desk. Dallas, Huy, and Erika, are among the first faces you see and, as with all good customer facing companies, they are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. And I've noticed that each regularly uses the seemingly lost skill of name recognition. They routinely display a proud sense of ownership. On every visit, I look forward to the words of encouragement from Dallas, and the smile and fist bump from Huy. On the back end, led by Zach, the fitness leader, they have a cadre of impressive trainers. Of the team, Sydney, Marcus, Sean, and Tre stand out for both their technical and interpersonal skills. Sydney, in particular, is both versatile and flexible whether an individual client or group is looking for weight training, conditioning, sparring/boxing, or simply lending an ear and a meaningful conversation. Similarly, Marcus is impressive with his high energy training and group Champions Class. He has, by far, the best music selection of any exercise class that I've ever been around. Kudos to the Emerald City Athletics!

BTW you will have to pay your next month dues even though you cancelled a month before hand which is complete bs! -Terrible cell service / wifi, wether you're trying to enjoy music while working out or picking up an important call it's always a gamble most of time my music won't even load same with my friends that attended this gym -Aggressive Sales team, Beware of their sales team they are very aggressive and ruthless. They will do anything in their power to make sure they convert their leads into clients for money here's a few testimonials of what happened when i invited my friends to come get a workout in with me and tryout the gym #1 I invited this friend because she was looking for a new gym to start her fitness journey at and wanted to look for a welcoming environment one. here's what she told me that happened during the sales process The sales member mentioned and made fun of her college financial situation and criticized her physique in hopes of trying to convert her into a client... That's 2 controversial pain points the sales team tried to use and failed miserably. Testimonial #2, Now this was the 2nd friend i invited to try out the gym the context is we were on sort of a time crunch and needed a gym to workout fast at, at this time ECA was running a "30 day" Free trial. My friend walked in and was greeted by the front desk he said he's here to workout with me and was interested in the 30 day free trial, immediately he was transferred to a sales representative and that's when the rep started his pitch and sale script in hopes of having my friend sign a package deal, i told my friend to not sign any contracts or packages today and to tell the rep that we are on a time crunch and you're only interested in the free trial, The rep quickly blocked that and said you can't do the free trial unless you do one of the packages... So is it really a free trial then... Again the rep kept stalling out time for about an hour trying to convert my friend into a client even body shamed my friend to make him insecure in hopes of having him be able to sign to a packages. At this point i was already fed up and told him let's just leave. Testimonial #3 My friend wanted to get a late night workout in so invited him to this gym mind you this is the 3rd person i invited and i was really giving this gym a chance in hopes they can prove me wrong but unfortunately they failed.... Friend walked in sales rep immediately went up to him started his pitch and AGAIN mentioned my friends physique and how he really need this package i texted him dont fall for their bs sales pitch and just keep denying any offer until they accept their own offer which is the 30 days free trial which worked My final thought on this is this gym has a lot of potential but due to the way they treated my friends and family i'm going to have to give it a low review. If you guys are looking for a welcoming environment with knowledgeable people i highly recommend f19 / fitness 19, A lot of IFBB Pros and competitors train there and they're very knowledgeable on fitness, health, bodybuilding, ect Another great alternative is planet fitness by rainier beach, They just fully renovated the gym with all new machines, free weights, turf, Plate loaded machine a few ifbb pros started training there too, Open 24 hours and is a great beginner friendly gym! This is my full transparent review without any sugar coating, i did leave out a few small bad occurrences but it was too little to leave in.

The Retrofit class is great - in my case, it was the perfect regimen to build up a baseline of strength after coming out of a fairly sedentary period in my life. You'll quickly see that the classes are full of regulars - folks stick with GymSmithy because it's a supportive and effective setting that really feels like a community. I joined with the goal of establishing a physical exercise routine, which I did, but ultimately kept coming because of the profound positive effect the classes and community had on my mental health. This is hands down the best use of my time and money for fitness classes. Each day's workout works the entire body in a balanced way and provides fitness that builds rather than destroys one's body. The exercises are structured so that you can choose your intensity; there is never pressure to do more than you can safely do. I can feel confident that after a Retrofit class I am stronger and less prone to injury in my normal life. There is no body shaming or pressure to look a certain way. The pricing is great, and there's no hidden fees or confusing contracts. No annual fee, processing fee, initiation fees, or equipment fees like big box gyms charge. Here you pay for the class, you take the class. The owner, Travis, gives great personal attention and feedback during classes, and keeps things entertaining so classes are fun instead of a chore. After working out at GymSmithy I'm always looking forward to my next opportunity to come back.

I recently attended…read moreone of Seattle Strength & Performance's small group trainings and could barely hold up my water bottle by the end of class. They worked me OUT. My first encounter with SSP was a Saturday morning Metabolic Conditioning class. For someone who doesn't really know her way around weights & equipment and was def more out of shape than the other folks there, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Everyone was SO friendly and made me feel like I was joining a community as soon as I walked through the door. Throughout the entire hour, Ro led our class of about 10-15 people through a series of high-intensity interval training workouts and made sure we were all appropriately pushed to our limits. Every exercise was super form-focused and accessible to different skill levels and abilities. I may have felt like I needed to vom and/or pass out a couple of times but, more than anything, I was v proud of myself for challenging my body. Since that class, I have returned and worked out with a number of the other trainers (Meg, Ana, and Jay) who are all equally attentive, encouraging, and just the best. The exercises they prepare are always tough, fun, and never the same. I never thought I'd be one to use kettlebells, TRX, and battle ropes but here I am, getting a little stronger every time I go to SSP. I often think about how miserable I was with my virtually nonexistent exercise routine about a year ago and am so glad that I found this gym. SSP is helping me love and prioritize my fitness again and I couldn't be more grateful!
