Extremely disappointed with my service experience. During a prior visit, I clearly asked to be contacted by my Service Advisor before any work was done, due to a pre scheduled vacation, yet repairs were completed without my knowledge . I let it go at the time, hoping it was an isolated issue of poor internal communication. I recently returned for a routine oil change, being I had previously purchased a 3 year maintenance plan. Within days my vehicle developed new issues that made it unsafe to drive. Despite receiving a "green check" on my vehicle's condition, I was later given verbal repair recommendations (not related to the current issue)only after I reached out to the Service Manager about current conditions. no written documentation was provided. Which I know to be a standard practice. At this point, I'm left questioning the level of service I received and whether it was influenced by the age of my vehicle, where it was purchased, or potential bias based on race. Read this before you buy a BMW from this dealership. If you want to be treated like you're purchasing a beat-up 1998 Honda Civic instead of a luxury vehicle, this is exactly the place for you. The level of disrespect here is unbelievable. Associates who make promises and then disappear. Managers who abandon you mid-process, only to come back and contradict themselves. Zero accountability, zero professionalism, and absolutely zero follow-through. They don't care about you at all -- just your money. This is NOT a luxury dealership. To them, you are nothing but a number they can squeeze. And the way they talk to you? Prepare to swallow your pride repeatedly if you decide to deal with them. Yes, the car is great -- but the experience cost me more self-respect than any purchase ever should. I purchased a car from Roswell BMW a few years back - it was a Honda that I purchased. I financed with BMW Finance Group when I made the purchase. We are in the process of trading in that vehicle at another dealership and was in need of the pay off letter to be able to finalize the new car loan. The BMW Group site was completely down and customer service is closed over the weekend - it was a Saturday - deeming it impossible to get the payoff letter on our own to finalize another car purchase with the trade in. We reached out to Roswell BMW explaining the situation but they said there was no way they could help us. We called Athens BMW in hopes that they would be willing to help us in someway. We spoke to Andy in finance and he was God sent. He got us what we needed in less than 30 minutes. He did not have to help us at all because we had no affiliation with them at all. By his helpful nature in the situation, I could tell that he would be a pleasure to work with on a car purchase. He truly seemed to want to help and seemed that he would be an absolute pleasure to work with - which can be very hard to find when purchasing a car. This will be a two part review. It's a novel, but I promise, if you've taken the step to yelp reviews, it's worth reading. I first want to highlight the salesmanship, professionalism, transparency, and 'give a darn' factor from the sales representative, Alex Kidd. Should you be looking at Athens BMW, seek him out specifically. You'll find it to be a pleasant and straight forward experience, something that isn't always common in the car sales industry. As someone that has purchased 8 vehicles in 11 years, this has been the top sales person I have worked with. He's the only reason that I give two stars, otherwise it would be 0. That said, there is a negative review and rating reflected here; not due to Alex, but his sales leadership team, namely Tolli Poff; a '30 year vet' in the business. After negotiating a deal on a used vehicle with Alex over the span of 72 hours, we had final agreement on terms. I should note that I am an out of state buyer- so this was all handled virtually. After agreeing to the terms yesterday morning, Alex alerted me that there was a local client looking at the same vehicle, and to ensure it was mine, I needed to put down a deposit. He followed up with a phone call and him sending cc authorization forms and other paperwork. We had plans in place to do all paperwork same day to save time after my 6hr drive. He got the paperwork to me. Within 2.5 hours or so of his email, I had submitted everything, including formalizing insurance being put on the vehicle. Alex had mentioned he pulled the keys from the other sales rep and told them it was sold. He said that he had put in a time of sale already in his system, and had moved the vehicle off the lot. Roughly 30 minutes after submitting all the paperwork and deposit form, I received a text that the vehicle had been sold out from under me. You can imagine my confusion and frustration hearing this; having carved out the time from work to make the drive this week, sent in initial authorization paperwork, insurance coverage aligned etc. It seems Alex's counterpart failed to follow up with his local client to tell them the vehicle was spoken for. It was shared with me that Alex was helpless in the situation, as his sales manager, Tolli, came over the top and approved the sale with the local client. Then came what I'm sure was a dreaded conversation with Tolli. As someone that has worked in sales and sales leadership, I know the script on working with frustrated customers. Tolli followed to a T. The 'I'm sorry's' and 'I understands' were plentiful. At the end of the day, I had no leverage. I am an out of state buyer and they had money in hand; my opinion likely doesn't impact their reputation or how they do business, as I don't find myself in that market often to buy a vehicle. Their opportunity cost in selling the car out from under me was minimal, if anything. Ultimately - despite sending in the credit card auth form (because they couldn't take it over the phone in the morning when I spoke with Alex), they hadn't processed the deposit yet, so to their excuse, there was no money that changed hands that would dictate them holding the vehicle for me. Total bird in hand scenario, as others have echoed to me. Knowing that I had no leverage- I was now on the hook to start the process over again. They made a 'valiant' effort to find me a replacement vehicle over the span of two hours; but with what I was specifically looking for, came up empty handed. Which is exactly why I wanted the car they had on the lot in the first place. All this to say- sometimes the biggest difference in an already uneasy environment for most people in purchasing a vehicle - is character when nobody is looking, integrity, leadership, and being true to your word. Tolli, after 30 industry years didn't display that. We all know the negative reputation of car sales - and this was right on the money. If you want to work with a dealership and sales leaders who put your mind at ease, because they present themselves as people of character- please take your hard earned money to another BMW dealership, and save the frustration and time that I donated to them. read more

Here I go again with another addition to my bmw athens nightmare. This is seriously like a bad dream at this point. I've had the same thing fixed on my car numerous times. and guess what ? After THOUSANDS of dollars later my car is still leaking fluids from the SAME spot and the active shutter grille has stopped working again causing a check engine light. Ive called, and left messages more than once for my advisor to return my call because anytime I call he is "on another call". Never get a call back. If you want to blow money and never get a solution then this is the place for you. I can't even drive to work it put my kids in the car because once Athens BMW touches it , you are truly afraid to drive your car for fear of breaking down. Smh read more

This is my review for Athens BMW Service Department. Out of all of the BMW Dealerships in GA, I will only bring my truck to Athens BMW. They are the most friendliest and thorough SA's I've had the pleasure to be helped by. My SA is Shawn. When I walk in, he knows exactly who I am, and always great me with a smile. There's no question he won't answer for me, and I appreciate that. I drive over an hour to be serviced. I have at least 4 other BMW locations that are MUCH closer, but I wouldn't trust them with my ride...just go look at their reviews. I've been to 2 others in the Atlanta area, and their service departments are sub par at best. I Ordered my new BMW through this dealership drove all the way up there from Alpharetta and made the deal with a trade in and when the car came in many weeks later from Germany and I take my car up there to make the deal the salesman didn't honor the agreement its like all the numbers on the contract were different and when my husband and I sat in the Finance office the worst part was dealing with this guy as he was so pushy about us taking every different kind of warranty they were selling it was obvious he was working on commission and it was to the point of him getting ugly and my husband just about had to raise his voice to this man we almost left with out the car but as I had waited so long we stayed and put up with them till we got out the door!!! We went for a test drive to experience the new features of 2019 X5. Small office, near by construction were going on. We were thinking to go back if it's not the place to test drive. Terry Hosier, an executive showed up & greeted us. This is my 5th BMW, neverever find a wonderful sales person with more respectful acted as our representative to make sure we buy. He is a good listener to understand about what we want & the checklist to buy that X5. He didn't resist any request and acted as customer's agent to get this deal done. Grace of god, we bought the same car on same day because of Terry's wonderful sales attitude. Normally tag transfer & payoff to the trade-in car takes many weeks to be done. After 5 days I called the Athens BMW's tag department, she replied not yet started. After few hours she called me back & informed, "it's transferred and good to use your tag now". Had the absolute best experience I've ever had at a car dealership repair and maintenance department. I needed a major repair on my 11 year old BMW after breaking down on the side of the road. They addressed my problem quickly, gave me a detailed rundown and explanation of the cost prior to the work. I purchased a used X3, the price was fair and the purchase itself was not bad. However, after driving for a few days I noticed the windshield wipers were worn out. The car was sold with the vaunted BMW 4 year warranty so going to the service department, I requested a set of new wiper blades. So much for the warranty and/or service. According to the tech rep, the blades had, at some time in the past, been replaced, so no new blades for me. I bought a pair for $8.00 and slid them on, but what terrible service. The blades were rotten and should have been replaced before selling the car and when I came in, within days of buying a car, perhaps they could have been courteous enough to replace a defective product instead of blowing me off with some lame reason. read more

Took my car in for service and abs system and tire pressure lights on. Jovon was assigned as my service advisor. After diagnosis I agreed to have several things fixed they suggested. They had to order a part. I was informed a few days later my car was ready for pick up. I drove 1 hour 45 minutes there and after paying 1900.00 they pulled my car up. I immediately noticed it was muddy which was strange because it was really clean when I brought it. I went to pull out and noticed I still had a tire pressure light on. I pulled it right back in. They pulled it in the shop again. I was hoping they had just forgotten to reset something. I was informed it was another sensor and I would have to leave it still. Waisted a whole 3 1/2 hours out of my day and the family member transporting me there. After several days I messaged my service advisor about what was going on with my car. No response after a day so I called and left a message for him because he was with another customer. No call back or message or anything. So the next day my husband contacted the service manager Jonathon who was very helpful and found out what was going on with our car and got right back to us. I did pick up my car yesterday and Jovon was very cold and aloof and not a word or apology about his non response etc. Terrible customer service on Jovon's part. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!!! We took our BMW to find out if they could diagnose a problem we were having with our BMW. After about a week, we never heard from anyone about any updates. So, my husband called and was told that we needed a transmission that would cost about $9000. Then was told he only owed $180 for the diagnostic check that was done. Well the very next day it was a different story when my husband called to advise them, he was sending someone to pick up car and wanted to pay invoice. They came back and told him that he owed $1200. Now tell me how two of the same employees that work at the same place give us two different amounts. One for $180 then the other one for $1200!!! REALLY!!! We called the General Manger Jeff Socha to see if we could get some answers. We called several times and left messages and was told that he would return our call. Well He NEVER did! Not a word!!! Never AGAIN will ever step foot back into this place or recommend at ALL!!! Very poor management, customer care and Overall SERVICE!! read more

I've purchased many vehicles over the years, so I've seen all the sales tricks and tactics known in the trade. But Rick Bythewood (and Athens BMW) was a breath of fresh air. There was no pressure, no games, and Rick actually knew his products and could answer all of our questions about different BMWs like a walking encyclopedia. We were looking for a car for my wife, and as soon as many salespeople hear that, they often continue to talk directly with the husband and ignore the wife (assuming the wife is either ignorant or not the decision-making authority). As soon as Rick learned the car would be for my wife, he immediately engaged with her in a polite and respectful manner to better understand her personal needs and preferences. He allowed us to explore and drive every model we were interested in, test-fit our child car seats, and spent almost an hour demonstrating all of the most important features and infotainment menus. Most noteworthy: Rick stepped away and gave us privacy when appropriate, instead of hovering over us like the vultures you might encounter at less savory showrooms. He was genuinely interested in finding the right car for us, and didn't want us to settle for anything less (whether it was color, features, etc.). Rick's test drives were also unconventional in that he encouraged my wife to feel firsthand how BMWs really outperform most other cars. I think my wife would agree that she was actually a better driver after Rick's test drive, because in addition to asking her to drive like she would on a normal day in her own car (like practicing backing into a tight parking space to demo the rearview camera), Rick challenged her to accelerate, corner, and brake in a deliberate but safe manner so that she could become accustomed to BMWs higher performance limits (and electronic safety nets). While we were considering other vehicles at the time, it was really Rick's knowledgeable and assuring demeanor and his informative test drives that contributed the most to my wife's decision to purchase a BMW. Athens BMW's excellent pricing only cemented the deal. I can honestly say this was the easiest and most painless car buying experience I've ever encountered. Athens BMW conducted all of its business with me via email correspondence or phone, and they sent their closing person to our residence to sign the final paperwork (which only took 10 minutes!). Most of the people at this dealership have been there for years, and they seem to love what they do, so that speaks volumes in an industry with typically very high turnover. I've been a BMW Car Club member since 1998, and am also a member of the Porsche, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz clubs. I will admit that I'm extremely picky and have very demanding standards. Rick Bythewood exceeded all of my expectations, and has won another loyal customer. If you are considering purchasing a BMW, I strongly suggest you find Rick at Athens BMW.
