I found this guys through Yelp and took my chances on all positive reviews. Gee! am I glad I did.. this guys are super honest and don't take advantage on any car issues not needed. They do quality and reasonable prices. The guys upfront tells you what parts OEM or most quality parts needed. Anyway, all they do is Japanese or Asian cars..,bummers for American cars. The best mechanic I have ever frequented. They're honest, they think about potential costs and give you a prioritized list of what needs to be done right now; soon, but can wait short-term; and can be put off a little while. I heard great things about AutoTech well before I ever went there. The first time I went, I had just been told by the dealer that I needed my timing belt changed on a car that had a timing chain (which doesn't need changing). It was AutoTech that informed me that I had a timing chain on the make and model of my car. They also had enough class not to bad-mouth the business that tried to mislead me out of several hundred dollars. When my daughter was heading off to college with my car, I asked AutoTech if they knew if any of their customers was selling a car. I'm now driving a vehicle that they've worked on since it was bought new by the original owner. It's that kind of place -- small-town interactions and excellent work and service. I moved out of town three months ago, but I still commute to Athens for work. I have no intention of going anywhere else. Hell, I might continue making the trip here for routine maintenance even if one day I no longer work in town. They're that good. read more

They do high-quality, efficient work, are honest (what I had *thought* was wrong with my car would have been an extremely pricey repair, but it turns out that it was a minor problem and easy to fix - I would never have known the difference had they not told me the truth and charged me accordingly), and have very fair prices. This place is so great that I lament having to find a new mechanic in ATL. Is it excessive to drive 1.5 hours to a good mechanic?? They were always honest. I can remember at least 2 times that I took my car there, they tweaked a little something, then sent me home without asking me to pay because it was something so simple. One other time, I took my car to the dealer and they told me that there was a crack in a gasket (?) and that it had to be repaired. I got a second opinion at Auto Tech and they told me it was not essential. Since it wasn't an emergency, I was able to save up until I could afford it, which was super helpful for a grad student. When there was work that needed to be done, it was good, quality work. Not the cheapest but I knew that I could trust them so it was 100% worth it. I usually dropped the car off and let them have it for the day. Highly recommended. read more

My wife's brakes were grinding, so we called and took her Honda Pilot in for a brake job. Dropped off the car and got a call a few hours later that it was all ready to be picked up. Auto Tech of Athens mainly works on Japanese cars, but they said they could look at my crappy Dodge Caravan. Before I moved to Athens for school I paid $40 for a mechanic to inspect my car and said I desperately needed work on my brakes, a shock tower, and 4 new tires. After waiting only 30-40 minutes the guy at Auto Tech told me that I did NOT need new brakes, I was just low on brake fluid which they just filled up for me. He told me what I needed was a front-end alignment, and that was why I needed 2 tires (not 4!). I asked how much I owed and he refused to accept any money! He said "are you a rich college student? Then don't worry about it" I thanked him because he could have replaced my brakes and charged me $100s for something I didn't need done. And he replied "yeah, but then I wouldn't be able to sleep at night". He wrote me up a sheet with what I actually needed repaired and recommended a tire place down the road. He also said "Just show them this sheet and don't let them "fix" anything else. Don't even tell them about the shock tower, if you really need it fixed they'll find out and tell you." Well the second place never said anything about about my shock tower. The whole repairs ended up costing $313, that's not bad considering the place in Detroit I initially went to suggested repairs of over $1,000! Thank you so much Auto Tech of Athens! You saved me well over $500 and didn't ask for anything in return. These guys seriously know how to run an honest business. Later I my wife and I took her car to Auto Tech of Athens for a check up. We offered to pay them for a 30 minute inspection and the mechanic said "checking your brakes and whatnot is just a responsible thing for us to do to make sure you're safe on the road." He honestly told us we had a while to go on the brakes when he could have lied and said we needed to change them immediately. He also recommended a new battery which made sense because the car was recently starting up funny. Auto Tech employees are good Southern honest guys. read more
