Athena's is a local treasure. The service was fast and friendly. I got the Athena's Special, which was perfect. The bacon was crisp, the hash browns were perfectly fried, the eggs weren't runny at all, and the toast was toasty. I didn't like that they had Fox "News" on, but I just sat with my back to it. I got the greek skillet and it came with two cute mini pancakes! Service was very quick! I called in my order and picked it up 15 minutes later. From what I could tell, Athena's looks like a nice homey diner, I'm sure a lot of locals are there every day/week. The food was tasty! The hash browns needed a bit of salt, and it was a little bit skimpy on the gyro meat, but overall I enjoyed my meal. If I am ever back on that side of town again, I would definitely stop in for a meal! read more

Very nice place although it's a bit dated for me but bet that's it's charm! They left the telephones that are mounted on each wall that were used to call in your order. Imagine the noise! Waitress was very nice and friendly. Food was great and generous portions. I had a Greek skillet and it was tasty. My spouse had a large omelette and he really liked it. We've never ordered from Athena's before and we won't order again. My husband got an olive burger with almost no olive sauce. And the burger itself was dry. I ordered Saganaki. It was clearly not flamed and put out with lemon juice. It was tossed in a microwave. The serving size was small compared to our old Greek restaurant. The Gyro plate was a huge disappointment. Paper thin, overcooked meat with onions that ranges from narrow and short to much too thick. The rice pilaf did not come with the traditional red sauce. Instead it came with an odd-tasting tzatziki. Used to come here a couple times a week. Prices are OUTRAGEOUS now! Service is wonderful, food is...well diner so mediocre, but used to be ok for the price. I am not sure why this restaurant has a seat yourself policy on a busy Sunday as it caused complete chaos today. We waited over an hour after ordering our food for it to arrive. It took 25 minutes before we were able to order our food. So 90 minutes in to get food. It wasn't just us. The poor severs were taking all the heat but it was the kitchen staff that was the root cause. Just seat people and create a wait list in order to pace things out. Just awful. read more

Needed breakfast before a visit to one of my buildings. Stopped by and was greeted quickly and sat at the counter. They got me coffee right away and it was solid diner coffee, my favorite (and decaf because I can't have caffeine) food came out fast and was delicious. So much so that I ate more than I should. Although it's a great diner, it is no Fleetwood Diner. The servers are really kind so it makes for a great experience. I ordered the Hippie Hash equivalent. It was good but not quite as great as Fleetwood's version. It wasn't too busy when I visited so it was easy to be seated. read more

My mom and I had breakfast at Athena's this weekend and can't wait to go back to try lunch! I've driven by here several times, and glad we finally decided to give it a try. The inside of the restaurant is well kept and cozy. They have daily specials, and their menu is reasonably priced. The food is about what you would expect for a diner, and breakfast is served until 11am when they switch over to their lunch menu. We each tried a skillet for breakfast with eggs over medium, and both were huge and the eggs were cooked just right. My skillet had coney chili on it, and instead of shredded cheese, they used American slices, which was different and pretty good. The service was excellent and our food came out quick. I caught a glimpse of their lunch specials as we were leaving and I am dying to try their lemon rice soup! (That's one of my all time favorites!) read more

I went here for the first time and had a very good breakfast. I'm giving breakfast only 4 stars as it was good, not "excellent". I ordered 2 eggs, basted medium as I like my egg whites done and yolks runny. The eggs appeared to be "fried, over-easy" rather than basted with one egg close to perfect and the other yolk more solid than fluid (but at least the whites on each egg were nicely cooked!). I ordered a dry english muffin and it was toasted perfectly - nicely brown and toasted, perfect for picking-up the delicious yolk from the one perfect egg. I also ordered sausage links and one of their freshly baked cinnamon rolls (apparently a recent addition to the menu). Next time I'll order the cinnamon roll without frosting, as I enjoy pulling cinnamon rolls apart with my fingers and savoring each flavorful cinnamon bite; the frosting is too sweet for my taste and interferes with the enjoyment of eating the roll with my fingers rather than with a fork! The coffee is rich and a server is always refreshing the cup as he/she passes the table; no need to flag someone down when a refill is wanted! I'll definitely be back soon; perhaps to have a bowl of lemon rice soup and a cinnamon roll without frosting! Why not; who's to say warm cinnamon rolls are for breakfast only? read more

I've been a customer there every morning for the last 3 years. I enjoy the company of the waitresses and the cooks. Used to go get my coffee every morning. Found out he just raised prices. I know price of inflation they have to and just food prices. But when coffee's over $3 for a cup of coffee and the average breakfast is about over $20. They just lost a customer. read more

Not the worst I've had, but nothing to write home about. I got the saginaki, it was good but the cheese was still in its rectangle shape, so it wasn't super melted like I've usually had. I got the BLT pita which was pretty good but way too much mayonnaise and bacon made it kind of a greasy ordeal. My boyfriend got the country skillet and that was an enormous plate; it could have fed at least a second person! That's crazy! Seems like it'd be great food for a morning after drinking. Stopped in for dinner tonight service was slow and there were only two other tables. Food came out quick We ordered the chicken hani gyro the chicken was cold and gray tried a little piece and it tasted horrible so spit it out and the turkey rueben which was supposed to have come slaw not sourkraut. The waitress disappeared I ended up just taking the chicken off my sandwich and eating it vegetarian it wasn't until I was done that the waitress showed back up and we told her both our orders were messed up and asked for the Reuben to be remade. Both sandwiches were ordered as combo meals with salads which were the only things that came out right but the combo also says comes with a drink we were never asked if we wanted. Went here for breakfast for the first time last weekend. We have been getting rather sick of poor service at Bob Evans, or too small places with no standing room, or of super grease laden food. Our breakfast was quite good. I got the Athena special, which for me was fried eggs, sausage patties, hash browns, and toast. The sausage patties were kind of crappy - thats the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5. They were like Mcdonalds quality. After the waitress saw I'd not eaten much of them she recommended the links (which I will try next time). The service was really great - very friendly and accommodating with a smile. Also, I was very impressed with the coffee. Very flavorful, but not overly strong. My girlfriend had a skillet meal with peppers and onions and ham, and she was very pleased. Generally speaking due to the good taste, proper cook of the food, we will be going back. I'll just know not to order the cheap sausage patties next time. read more

I went here for the first time today and I won't be going back anytime soon. The place stinks like a musty old moldy basement. The waiters look like crackheads and act like they enjoy working there and fake it so badly. The menu had various spelling errors also (shrimp was spelled "shirmm"). I order a club pita. As soon as my order came, I looked down and saw a big black hair on my food and lost my appetite. My friend ordered a chicken salad. The salad was mostly bacon, chicken and a bowl full of grease. The ketchup bottle was sticky and so was the table. My sliver wear, napkin and cup was also dirty. The cooks in the back don't wear hairnets and don't look the cleanest. If you want a clean restaurant that smells decent, and has decent cleanliness DO NOT COME HERE. read more

Tonight I had my first meal at Athena's Diner. I thought that the waitress was really nice, she was helpful and attentive. I ordered a simple meal, corned beef and hash with hash browns and scrambled eggs. I thought they did well, everything was cooked really well. It's really easy to mess up a simple dish, so I was happy that my eggs were perfectly scrambled and that both the corned beef and hash browns were nice and crispy. I'm going to go back and try other items on their menu. Just based on my first visit, I would recommend this place to friends and family. It's pretty inexpensive, 3 drinks, 3 entrées cost $30. So it seems like the place to go for family style dining. Parking lot felt a bit small, but that's my only spif with just one visit under my belt. read more

This unassuming diner surprises me everytime I come here. It is by no means fancy, but the generous portions and tasty home coomed food win over my heart. The stirfry was excellent, and we have tried many Greek entrees with great success. My kids loved the baked half chicken dinner, and ate heartily. The breakfast menu is quite large, and they serve breakfast all day. Good combinations of ingredients in the omelettes, and the skillets looked good. I had the Irish omelette, raisin toast, and coffee. My dining parent had a waffle, bacon, and American fries. The American fries were deep fried, which is not our favorite. I loved the thick raisin toast. Overall, good food and a great selection. I would give it 5 stars, but the service could have been better. I would definitely come back. read more
