My middle school daughter only attended one week of camp, but found such unconditional positive support and a caring environment, that she had fun learning tennis and volleyball for the very first time ever. She is usually shy and reserved, but was willing to try new things and learn new skills because the counselors were so encouraging and kind. I appreciated that all of the girls learned how to build each other up and boost self-confidence, which is so crucial at this fragile and emotional at this age. My 6 yo daughter love this summer camp. The teachers are amazing. We enrolled her to few different camps last year. This is the one she likes the most! They are really nice with payment too. I made an error on the payment when I was enrolling her for this year. They replied to my concern right away and refunded me. I really appreciate their help! Great idea - Lackluster execution. My 11YOA daughter just finished her 2nd week at the Los Altos camp. First the good. * - All Girls! * - Positive wrap up at end of week. * - Flexible (one day when I was late for pickup) and good communication Not so good... *- Counselors showed very little enthusiasm Low energy at drop off/pickup, uninvolved in first day, did not participate in dress up days * - School rooms empty, uninviting * - MS girls were using Cell Phones, contrary to policy (no big deal really, my daughter just mentioned it in passing) but when I mentioned it director at end of 1st week, she said that it was not occurring... read more

With the high price for this camp, it's really no more than babysitting, maybe with the bonus of playing some games and sing. The weekly theme of sports (e.g. running & yoga) is really something you can easily do with your kids. Throughout the whole camp, I did not see how they worked on building the girls' confidence, empowering them, etc. Definitely a waste of time and money! read more

Love this camp! Such an amazing, positive experience for my daughter and her friends. This is our second year attending this camp and it gets better every year. My daughter walked into camp and felt her voice was heard. She was empowered and taught to love and learn who she is. Along with her own personal growth, she experienced different sports at her level. She also had caring, strong young women as her coaches. Each coach bringing their enthusiasm and passion to their sport. Her main coach this week was Coach Andy. You can tell Coach Andy loves what she does and will make a wonderful teacher one day (if she chooses that route). My daughter adores her. My 11 year old daughter just completed a week long Volleyball, Fitness & Babysitting camp. From the start of the registration process to the camp the communication was amazing. The staff are all professional and take their job seriously. They are extremely organized and offer a positive, update, physical environment for campers. They also understand the kids need a break so the are really good about balancing indoor and outdoor activities, making sure the kids get plenty of water breaks, etc. They end the week with a skills demo for parents and give the kids a certificate with a positive message about how awesome your child is, a camp athena shirt and water bottle I wouldn't hesitate to sign my daughter up for camp here again. My 8 yr old attended for 1 week this yoga and running Athena Girls Summer Camp and she loved it and wants to return. We attended at The San Jose Christian School near ebay off Hamilton Avenue. There was at least 1 other soccer camp using the field at the school. Although a little pricey (approx $495 for 1 week). We packed her lunch each day but a meal service was available for a fee from an outside vendor. The program was very engaging and they produced some nice quality crafts and photographs. read more

I signed up my 13 year old for middle school camp on the Los Altos campus. The entire class were 9-10 year old elementary school girls. ZERO middle school age children. My daughter was so disappointed. DO NOT expect this camp to be for middle school age kids which in our area is 7th and 8th graders. A total waste of money... read more

For us as per our 3 Weeks experience, this was really bad for our 9 Year old daughter! The sports are more 'fun' type activities and it basically is another Daycare. We felt that the camp staff were not trained or had any knowledge of how to get the children more involved and create a totally inclusive atmosphere. Our Daughter was enrolled for 4 weeks but by middle of 3rd week, she confided to us that she doesn't like this camp as she feels left out and even has her lunch by herself; the camp staff should notice these things and proactively get children who do not have existing friends, to help them. It almost felt like our daughter was bullied as she was even laughed at by other children if she tried to do anything nice for them. Again the camp staff should notice these things and correct it. Our daughter was crying when she shared this with us which really was upsetting! Needless to say, refund or not, we will not be sending her for the 4th week and we withdrew her from this camp in the middle of the 3rd week. Another thing we felt after attending 2 'Family Activity' event on Fridays was that our daughter was way more confident in speeches or public speaking than the Camp Staff who presented every Friday! So much for learning! We think overall the camp staff are very nice young adults but we feel that they are not trained well with handling young children! read more

At $500 for the week it was by far the most expensive camp my daughter attended. For that, the camp was a big disappointment. It was advertised as volleyball and tennis but the school where it was held had no courts for either. There was a lot of empty slogan chanting but real confidence comes from building skills and mastering something. My daughter felt the atmosphere was fake and the slogans were hollow. I would not enroll her again and recommend camps where an activity can be learned like a sports camp or writing camp. read more

I have signed my daughters up for this camp for a few years. They always have a good time and enjoy learning new sports that they haven't encountered before. It's great that it's an all-girls atmosphere and they spend a lot of time reinforcing positive female relationships and positive self-image and all sorts of good things like that. The older kids get into things like online safety, and everybody has daily "affirmation circles". The sports are friendly and fun and very non-competitive. If you want your kid to get a leg up on tryouts for the traveling team, this is not the place for you. But if your daughter hasn't ever tried say, basketball, and you think she'd like it, this is a great place to give it a shot. But, I'm dinging off one star because it's not that friendly towards working parents. Face it, day camps *are* our childcare for the summer. When we have two working parents, we need wall-to-wall coverage of childcare because our employers expect us to keep coming in to the office. Summer day camps fill that void. Here's what they could do to improve: - Extended care needs to go until 6pm. Right now it ends at 5:30 and that's a little tight. - The Friday Finale. OMG, this is the reason I logged on to leave this review. We need childcare all day, every day. But on Friday you expect us (the working parents) to be at camp at 2:15 for the presentation, and then you *DON'T HAVE EXTENDED CARE* afterwards. Everything is closed up and done by 3:30 or so. Ugh. I love my kids, I'm glad they're having fun, I'm glad they like you. But I have to leave work at 1:30 to get to this mandatory event and you're not giving me any options in case I can't get out of work. You're sabotaging our childcare on Friday afternoon, and that is not OK. read more

Every summer I plan a week for my daughter to spend in San Jose so that she can enjoy time with her auntie and a week at Athena Camps! Athena Camp has been amazing for my daughter. We signed up Pre Covid and decided to follow through when we learned that the camp would still be open with precautions. We are glad we did. My little girl had, just like every other kid, been cooped up in the house for months doing school miserably through zoom and with us next to her rather than kids her age. This was such a welcome change for her and she is back to her joyful energetic self again thanks to this camp. She has raved about her coaches, loved the exposure to two different sports each week, met new friends, and proudly brought home the craft she has done each day. She has recounted the dance parties she has had. There is also component of self esteem and happiness that is taught in the camp. They read an inspiring book and do a craft related to the book. That has made an impression on my daughter. For instance today my daughter was teaching her sibling affirmations and they were saying their affirmations in the yard. I will add that she liked it so much that After our first week we signed up for 3 more weeks. I noticed the coaches and directors warmly welcome and send off each camper and their family each day. The school site is excellent and tucked away off any major roads and there is a fence surrounding the site. I like that not just anyone can walk into this site without being noticed. Also their COVID prep is organized and well thought out. There is a hand sanitizer station upon coming in. Then a station where temperatures are taken and recorded and pens and thermometers sanitized. All parents have worn masks and stayed apart when checking their kids in. The check in and check out procedure is also very secure. There is plenty of outdoor space for the kids also which allows for less COVID risk. Also each kid is assigned their own sports equipment to borrow for the week. We really love this program and after our 4 weeks this summer will be back. read more

My daughter participated in this camp and it was so bad, we didn't bother to go back on Thursday or Friday. I think the camp has some value but it's targeted to much younger kids. I would say about 8 is the limit if you have a young 8-year-old. In the camp's defense, they did try to work with my daughter and her friend but it was just not a good fit. Tennis means holding a tennis racket and bouncing a ball and volleyball doens't even have a net. For sure not a sports camp by any stretch. read more
