This place was the worst. Went in on a weekend trying to get my car out (I was involved in an accident), while they were supposed to be open according to their business hours. Gate was closed and called the phone number when Ryan walked up to the gate while I was on the phone with the other guy. He asked me what I wanted and before I could even answer he goes "You don't want to talk? Bye." and starts walking away. Extremely rude. I go back to the phone call and tell he tells me that they're closed on the weekends and to come back on Monday even though THEY LISTED THEIR HOURS AS OPEN ON THE WEEKENDS. I come back Monday and pay a bit more than $1k because the car was there over the weekend EVEN THOUGH I TRIED TO GET IT OUT EARLIER. So I finally get my car and what do I find? Missing items from my glove compartment and garbage in stuffed in the engine bay. A slim jim wrapper to be exact. I'm glad many people are reporting this company and I will surely follow up with a complaint to the BBB as well. Finally, the other review putting the blame on people instead of this company is a complete joke. If many people are all giving horrible reviews then the company should be held accountable. I was quoted $145 from the roadside assistance service from Mercury for a tow and this company charged me $180. Neither them nor Mercury would take ownership of any mistake they made in quoting, and I am the one they charged without authorizing. They refuse to refund me my money, despite having them on the phone with Mercury where it is stated in the notes the quote was for $145. All this for a measly $35. They are thieves and shouldn't ever be trusted. read more

If you're reading these reviews, you need to understand this is a company that is used as a service by California Highway Patrol, so we're not just seeing rescues, but car impounds due to drunk driving, or the car was taken for insurance problems or crime related stuff. The people reviewing are, at best, not in their best places. This company does a difficult service in rescuing and saving stranded people, too... so that's the "all 5 star or all 1 star" thing. And this is the second time I've used this business in the last 5 years, and I didn't want to use this business... but sometimes you have car problems! They rescued me on Sunday with a SOLID friendly "panic stabilizing" dude, stored it til I could figure it out on Tuesday, and were professional, friendly, and did me a couple solids with both advice on what to do, and even gave me a break on the final price (don't expect it... I worked with them on some tow timing stuff, and they threw me a bone). Dude's cool too, if that matters. OH, and his dog is the cutest freaking bulldog, and I made a friend. So - I'm out a LOT of money because of this car situation, and life happens... it's just how it all works out. These guys made a REALLY bad situation far better than it could have been. Last night at 11:30pm I called CSAA roadside service. They told me that they didn't have a tow truck driver to respond to my request of a jump start. I was parked in an unlit parking lot in Greenbrae by myself. I couldn't believe it. They told me that I could contact another company on my own. I was fortunate to find ATA Towing. Tony was reassuring at that late hour that he would meet me in 20 minutes. He was on time, friendly and professional. The next time I need a tow or roadside service, Tony will be my first call. ATA towing was great. They showed up a few Min. before they were scheduled. Even though it was towing a car up a steep driveway it was no problem . Ryan the driver took his time and did it right the first time. He was very attentive to the classic car to make sure it didn't get damaged. Worst experience ever. I was in a motorcycle accident on Monday 10/12/20 and my bike was towed by ATA towing to their tow yard in Bell Marin Keys at 106 Galli Dr. I had surgery on my hand and was released from the hospital on Wednesday 10/14/20; I went to retrieve my bike that day. My friend who drove me their entered the office first. When I entered, the woman was demanding my friend move his car out of their drive way. He goes to move it and I warn the woman behind the desk that I was in a lot of pain and needed this to go as quickly as possible. I gave her my driver's license and told her I was looking for a "Honda Nighthawk 750, 1996." She removed a clipboard from the wall and began flipping through papers. She asks me what kind and I repeat, "Honda Nighthawk 750, 1996." She proceeds to another clipboard and asks if it was brought in today, I told her no it was brought in Monday morning. She asks who brought it in. I had no idea, I said maybe CHP. (It was brought in by ATA towing to their own tow yard.) She asks again what kind of bike and I repeat "Honda Nighthawk 750, 1996." She replies, "Suzuki?" I had a sudden outburst and screamed, "Honda!" Then politely apologized for my outburst, reminded her I am in pain, and then said calmly, "Honda. It is a Honda. Honda Nighthawk 750, 1996." She asked if I had any information about the bike. I thought what more do you need and asked, "like what?" She wanted license plate number or vin number. No I don't have those memorized. She continues to flip through papers. At this point the pain in my hand is unbearable and I tell her I don't care about the bike anymore and ask for my license back. She was reluctant to give me back my license, so I ask her again and say I need to go home. She gives me my license and as I am leaving my friend returns and tries to work with the woman, but I just want to go home. I walk to my friend's truck, realize he is not following me, and return to the office to beg him to please come, I don't care about the bike, I need to go home and take medication for this unbearable pain in my hand. My friend is hesitant to leave and is getting irritated with the lady. I tell him not to get upset with her and I beg and beg for him to take me home and he finally comes. Unfortunately he says, "fuck you very much" as we are leaving the office. The woman then follows us out of the office yelling profanities at us and a man from the tow yard comes over to film us with his phone. I yell at the man to leave me alone, I am in a lot of pain, and just want to go home. We drive away. In the days following I see all these negative yelp reviews and decide I need an officer to escort me. Now one week later, the following Wednesday 10/21/20, I call the Marin County Sheriffs Department for an escort because they are also holding county property. I work for Marin County Parks and Open Space and my key chain has keys that access Civic Center offices and all the fire road gates to open spaces. The receptionist of the Sheriff's office calls ATA and confirms that my bike is indeed at 106 Galli Dr, however they tell me it is not in their jurisdiction and they do not do civil stand bys even if it was. So I have Novato Police escort me. When I arrive at the ATA office with the officer, the man behind the counter, Bobby, has my paperwork already out and ready to go before I give him any sort of information. I give him my license but do not tell him what vehicle I am here for. However the paper right in front of him is the paperwork for my motorcycle (how is that possible?) He says it will be $1115. I ask, "are you serious?" He replies, "yes." I tell him I came here last Wednesday and he says he knows about that. So I tell him that she was unable to find my bike and he says that is not what he heard. I ask what is his version of the story and he refuses to tell me. I ask if my bike was there last Wednesday, he says yes, and I ask why could she not find it? He says I didn't give her the proper information. I gave her my license and repeatedly told her the make and model of the bike. I only gave this man my license and no further information. Why could he so easily find it but she couldn't? He refuses to answer. So I give the man my credit card and turn to the officer to ask how is this not theft? He has no answer. Paperwork done, now it is time to get my bike from the tow yard and load it onto our truck. However my friend is not with me this time, my 70 year old father is. I ask the officer if he could help me load the bike but he says he can't because of liability, if the bike drops he would be responsible. Bobby, the guy from ATA, won't help either. My father is not strong enough to get the bike up the ramp on to the truck bed and I have to help him with my one good arm, while the fully able officer and very fit Bobby watch us struggle. I plan to report ATA to the Better Business Bureau and file with small claims court for the extra 7 days of charges and added trauma. read more

I hate to even put one star for this business. The owner (the woman) is SO unprofessional she had me crying. She tried to tell me how to parent my son (it was his car I was picking up). When I told her I did not need any parenting and not to judge unless you've been there she called me a Bitch! Unbelievable! She also said she didn't have to give me my car back! What? Who is this Woman & where does she get the right to treat people as 3rd class citizens? This place Really IS a scam. They charge exorbitant fees & will not work with you. She said "You Pay now in full or you dont get your car back". No discounts or payment plans available. I don't know about anyone else but i don't usually walk around with $2,450 in my pocket ... Getting towed sucks. Everyone knows that. But one extra sucky part of the experience can be retrieving your car. I understand there are fees involved. However, when I call and ask how much it would cost to retrieve my car, would it not be prudent to disclose all fees? When I arrived, the price of $345 became $470 due to a "gate fee" for them having to open it on the weekend, even though they would have supposedly already been "opening it at 10am and 3pm". The tow address was also different from what was listed- he says "it's a man and woman's name, in bel Marin keys" and he says what I thought was "Cameron" very slowly. He did not spell it. How is "Pamaron" a name? If you tow only for the police, charge exorbitant fees, misinform your clients purposefully constantly... You feed off of the public's misery and bad luck: You are clearly an evil little company. The guys were like cops. Slow and uninvolved. Following rules. Don't care about you. Just doing my job. Well I have never...! Thank you! This is my first ever yelp review and I hope it sheds some light for future reviewers, viewers, and/or customers at ATA towing. I had an over the phone experience with the owner. It didn't end well. I was myself in a very upset state of mind and with my temper that was not a good thing. After worrying about the cost and travel necessary to handle my vehicle that ended up at ATA after it broke down on highway 101 while being driven by my fiance, and while I was in southern California, I about lost it talking to Bobby. After the weekend of frantically trying to get a flight and get my key mailed to me and get all my paperwork in line to handle this situation, I called and spoke with Bobby. I began by apologizing for my poor state of mind while talking to him previously. I then explained that I would be arriving after hours and would hope that the title was in the car as i was relinquishing my ownership due to the cost of towing, storage and thereafter repairs. It just wasn't worth it to me. And then!!!!! Bobby made my day! My month! My holidays all too much a huge improvement. Bobby allowed helped me in a way no other tow company has ever helped me before. He treated me like a human being. Perhaps it had to do with my change of attitude from our previous conversation. Perhaps it had to do with a change of heart in his own life and point of view. I don't know what it was but Bobby decided to wrap up this whole experience in the easiest and least expensive manner for me. Bobby decided to eat the extra costs involved in dealing with this car. Bobby decided to work with me in my horrible position. Bobby went above the DMV and beyond. Bobby lifted an elephant off my shoulders and put it back in the wild where it belongs. I don't even know how to express my gratitude and for that I am writing this long winded thank you in hopes that someone else will read this and digest this information in regards to their unexpected visit to this tow yard. It does not pay to be upset about a situation, it did however, in my experience, pay off to understand ones own emotion and understand someone else's situation and to just empathize, be real, be zen and allow for the better. I know the towing business is hard. I know Bobby has to deal with assholes like me, who lose their temper, on a regular basis. I feel for you Bobby. In your line of work, everyday is likely a difficult day having to break the news to those who are unaware and not always financially able or able to afford the time. It's never easy to deal with a car that is in a tow yard. It is likely more difficult to deal with people whose car is in your tow yard. If I could give -10 I would . This place is corrupted. The CHP and this tow company work together. Be careful with police and people that work with them. Don't use these guys for any of their services! They will steal from you by force and with you knowing! My car was impounded for a accident and they charged more than $800 to get the car back for a 2 day stay with them!! The people in the office are disrespectful and have no sense of humor.. I recommend using a towing company that doesn't work with corrupted people. Be more careful of these type of people and not thieves!! I have reported them to the BBB and hope many others do too. Now after paying over $1000 dollars and handing over my vehicle, now I have to deal with paying the fines of over $600, or tracking down how to get the new owner to pay for this. Van got towed in front of my place for 72 hour violation on Friday. I had to get a notary to pick it up because van is registered in my dad's name and they wouldn't release it. Got the notarized statement and emailed. I called to pick it up and they said they had specific pick up hours on Saturday (the next day) 10-11. I went in at 10:15. They charged me to two 24 hour hold periods because they said it got into their shop at 9:15 and it was now 10:15. Just past the 24 hour period. This couldn't have been true because my wife said she saw the van at 9:00 in front of our house. They then charged me $125 for coming in on a saturday (Gate fee). All in all $550 for a tow and pick up. They lied to my face. And they made the pick up time conveniently just after their so called "24 hour period". Very disingenuous. While we were in there they seemed to be stalling further. I would not trust these guys at all. read more

Just insane....California Highway patrol called and had my motorcycle towed, then it was towed to the fix it shop in SF. The cost? $1440. $365 of that was because my motorcycle was in "storage" for 6 days. That is, held hostage. They wouldn't take a mailed check, nor credit card over phone. I had to have my friend drive their and pay with their credit card on the spot. It was ridiculous. They can go to hell. read more

Picked my car up from these guys, the guy at the front desk named Hector is good, he's just doing his job in a friendly, courteous, and civil way. The guy with the little man complex who wouldn't give me his name is laughable. I haven't the slightest clue as to why he came out talking to me, I was fine dealing with Hector. He demanded that I stand on the sidewalk and wait for my car. This little guy started shouting at me with NO MASK ON! because he couldn't start my car with the key, he threw my car key on the trunk of my car, I picked the key up put the key into the ignition, and the whole ignition switch is loose from this genius with anger issues, It's not my fault you can't please your wife. Avoid him if you can, he wouldn't give me his name but he seems to be the shortest one that works there with a very low buzz cut, clean-shaven, and stocky build. I consider scumbag too good a word for these maggots that prey on society. My son was had his car towed. He could not get the car released because he was not on the title. The owner insisted on me driving down to sign the release even though it was a four hour round trip. He said he would accept a notarized original copy overnighted to him. Faxes were not allowed. I finally had to get the police involved who accepted a fax with my drivers license and they provided a release to this jerk. The cops were amazed that this tow company was unaware of this option even though every other towing company knows about it. I was in a severe accident last night. The owner of ATA towing showed up and was so professional, courteous, sensitive & helpful. He provided some recommendations for 'next steps' which helped me figure out what to do in such a traumatic situation. Part of that had to do with trying to avoid having my car stored in his towing yard for any length of time! Next morning when I called to update him (Bobby), he seemed to sincerely care about my well being. Towing is a service nobody wants and probably doesn't rate, but this review is well warranted. read more

They run a scam with the police, period. My girlfriend's car was towed and impounded by this company just after 5 pm. She was told that since the office closed at 4 pm (!?!), it would cost an extra $100 to pick it up that night as the driver would have to come and open the gate; if we waited until tomorrow morning we could avoid the fee. When I explained that since we live in San Francisco it would not really be practical (if any cheaper at all) to wait, and when I asked if they could have a heart and waive the fee, I was told that "morally" it was wrong to give a "discount" to one person since then anybody who asked would be entitled to the same special treatment. Seriously, a tow lot that charges extra if you come after 4pm, while working with police to collect cars towed at 5pm for rush-hour traffic. And they can't possibly bend their arbitrary and ridiculous rules for you because of their strict ethical code. Racketeering at its finest. Be Ware. read more
