My latest service with this well run and professional, with skilled mechanics and friendly and honest garage repair service, were two windows, the passenger side and driver side windows. They required replacing because the windows did not go up and down. I had duck taped one of the windows shut to prevent air and rain coming into the car. Both were repaired today with one of the windows, as it turned out, not needing a new mechanism (a savings to me of a couple of hundred dollars). Plus all the duck tape was removed from the window and vehicle trim so that there was no evidence of it having been there.And the parts which they thought they would need were not used and I wasn't charged for the. My girl Candice G already wrote a stellar review for our experience but I had to chime in and give super props to Evan and Cheda's for rescuing us from the middle of a cow pasture on the way to Point Reyes lighthouse this weekend. Two blown out tires and very little phone service made us a bit panicky but luckily AAA got us set up with Cheda's and Evan was there to pick us up within an hour. Back at their garage he set us up with the spare and an extra tire they happened to have laying around which got us to the nearest Costco for permanent replacements. It made a really stressful experience feel far less so. Also--props to Evan for the entertaining tow back as well. Sometimes that can be awkward as hell but he was chatty, sharing info about the region and fun facts about the wildlife and such. Like a tour guide and repair service wrapped in one! I don't have AAA but our car wouldn't start after an accident we had a little earlier in the day. When we couldn't get a jump from another car at the gas station, we had to walk to the garage and ask for help. The tow truck came almost immediately to where we were parked. He was kind enough to check under the hood for other problems but it seemed as if it were just the battery (turns out we had to go to a Honda Service Center in SF and it was that the accident jolted the cells in the battery rendering it useless). He jumped us and we were able to drive back towards Santa Clara (a good 2 hours away). Best 45 bucks ever spent. read more

Second visit to Cheda's. All i can say is, when i was leaving i asked the incredibly knowledgeable and personable woman who manages the office, "Can you move to Berkeley?" it's my second time there -- they located a hidden key in a rusted out hide-a-key box under the car, cut it off, got the key out, wire brushed the key to get the crud off, tested it out, put my bumper back in place (which is why i originally stopped by: had been dragging my feet on getting it fixed here in the east bay, and when i drove past Cheda's today i thought i'd see what they could do, remembering another time they helped me out) and got me on my way. To say that the fee was reasonable is an understatement. I bow to Cheda's! read more

They are amazing! Our car bottom was ripped off after driving over several large rocks by accident. There was some liquid dripping from the bottom. We called them and a lady helped us trouble shoot via phone. She is very knowledgeable and helpful! She didn't charge us anything, We appreciate her so much that she was so willing and patient to help us!! Dear dish y I have used AAA many time in Point Reyes and they have always been wonderful!!! The drivers are not 'drinking lots if coffee' as you have said; they are quick and helpful. They have a huge area to cover out here in west Marin and go above and beyond to help people. If you call a tow truck you should be ready for them, regardless of your own personal issues...ie...having your pants on!!!! That is common curtesy!!! Please check your self before blaming others. How was my weekend? Well... I spent several hours trapped in the middle of nowhere Point Reyes with several hundred happy cows waiting for a tow truck and having to go #2 in a brown paper Ike's sandwich bag while my two friends looked on from behind my car with TWO freshly blown out tires. TL/DR: My weekend was a 2, but Cheda's Garage is a 10... or 5-star in Yelp terms. I for sure thought I was gonna have to live in no reception point forever but got lucky that my one friend had limited reception on her phone further down the road and that Cheda's (by way of AAA) was around to help us out in late afternoon on a Sunday. Evan was our assistance man and not only was he knowledgable and a lover of wildlife (specifically baby bobcats) but he basically pulled off the impossible. Put my spare on one of the blown out wheels and after he towed us back to the garage fitted my car with a temporary tire to get me to the nearest tire shop (Costco Novato) so I could get all new tires. The situation and day weren't ideal but man am I grateful to be off the side of the road and back to using an American Standard toilet like a regular human and not an Ike's Sandwich bag. If you're reading this it's prob too late but beware of that crippling pothole on Sir Francis Drake on the way to the lighthouse. Kudos & HUGE thanks to Hilary Cheda and her team for diagnosing and correcting a faulty transmission alert when I visited Point Reyes Station this week!! Turns out a failed car battery, even when replaced by a new battery, can lead to transmission errors (clearly the hip bone's connected to more than just the leg bone in car electronics.) Hilary gave me an appointment for the next day when I called; I brought a dodgy transmission to Cheda's Garage and 40 minutes later we (my chihuahua, my car, & I) were on our way to Limantour Beach, gliding up and over the winding road. If I lived closer to Point Reyes Station (I'm in San Francisco), this would totally be my go-to garage. I've been meaning to write this for a while. On two separate occasions the owner spent about 15 minutes putting a diagnostic on my truck and letting me know what was wrong with it. The issue was with the catalytic converter and he referred me to a shop who specialized in that type of work. When I asked him how much I owed him he told me not to worry about it and to come back when I needed some bigger work done. I was grateful for his expertise and decency. read more

We were visiting in Bolinas when we did a silly, but unavoidable, thing: our rental car accidentally went down a step in front of our VRBO. We tried to push it out and back up over the step, but to no avail. We called AAA -- standing O to AAA, too -- and they instantly hooked us up with Cheda's. Tim was at the house within 45 minutes, scientifically determined how to extract the car, and, presto, we were free again. He was polite, a real expert on getting a car out of a tricky situation, and off he went into a cloud of dust after a very efficient 20 minutes of work. If there was a 0 I'd give it. I was visiting Pt Reyes as I have on many occasion with my horse. This was during a power outage. Since the local gas station was closed I was very concerned to say the lease because getting there took more gas than usual due to winds. I should have stopped on my way to fill up and believe me this won't happen twice. Anyhow, upon searching for even a bit of gas in my truck and horse trailer, I happened upon the tow truck parked in front of Cheda's garage. I saw gas cans in the back. I was very excited because I thought this would be my answer to prayer. I asked the gentleman if you could call him that if I could pay for a couple of gallons. He said and I quote" Sure 2 gallons for $60.00" I said WHAT !!! Your joking !!! To which he replied "yep, supply and demand " WOW I SAID TALK ABOUT RAPING THE CUSTOMER IN TIMES OF NEED. I'D RATHER RUN OUT !!. hE SHRUGGED HIS SHOULDERS AND SAID "ITS VERY HARD TO FIND GAS AROUND HERE. So I am taking my time to tell EVERYONE I KNOW ABOUT CHELAS !!! I love social media !!! Wow. These guys should wear white hats and come in on white horses because they sure saved us! We blew out TWO right tires a few miles past Inverness and called AAA. They sent Tim out from Cheda's Garage and he towed us to his shop, late afternoon on a Saturday, put the spare from our trunk on one wheel and another spare he had lying around on the other all the while we sat on a bench and ate scones. When he said "no charge" I couldn't believe it! I asked him if AAA was paying for the other tire he said no, he just keeps them around for occasions like this. Gary Cheda, the third generation Cheda to operate the business came and towed the jeep, let me know that the water pump needed to be replaced and had the repairs done in less than a day.
