I came here a few months ago and didn't have the best experience as there was a staff member that was extremely rude... but today, my experience with Avalon was amazing. I came in to upgrade my sister's phone, but her screen was cracked badly and she wasn't able to do the upgrade she wanted. Nonetheless, the entire experience was great. It was professional but still very personable. She's going to get her screen fixed so she won't have to pay that much to upgrade, but we'll definitely come back to him so she can upgrade her phone and when i'm eligible I'll come back to Avalon as well. read more

August was a busy month for me, having scored both a new job and a new place to live within a week of each other. As a personal gift (that was later funded by my parents under the guise of a birthday gift) to myself, I finally joined the rest of the nation and upgraded my 2 year old LG CU500 to an iPhone. The $30/month data plan is still irksome, but I figure that AT&T needs a way to perform maintenance checks and repairs on their spotty service. The customer service team at this store is really thorough and straight forward. When I told Anthony, the employee, that I wasn't really too sure why I would want Apple Care... he gave me the legit rundown. When I told him that I wanted a case that wasn't cheap plastic, he let me look at all of the ones of interest throughout the small shop. He spent his time putting on complimentary glare-free screen covers (which I strongly recommend!) and even went through the tutorial of how to use the phone. There were at least seven other customers in line that day, but I was treated as if I were the only one in the store, which, for those other customers, could have been pretty irksome, but once they got to the front, I'm sure the service was appreciated. Last week, my case broke. I don't know if it was my fault or just the shoddy craftsmanship of the iFrogz line of cases, but I went back to the store to request a new one. I thought I was going to have to sort through bureaucratic nonsense or come up with a valid reason as to why I needed a new case, but Tiffany, the customer service agent, took my old one off, put a new one on, and told me to have a nice day. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. I'm not a fan of AT&T's service... I think they really don't care about individual customers and just want to maximize their profit, even if it means providing an inferior product since those who want iPhones are going to make the switch to AT&T regardless, but the employees of this store really speak volumes about their corporate parent, and if you are in the Dupont area and even thinking about getting an iPhone, go inside and have a chat with any customer service rep... you'll be glad you did. read more

I went to this Dupont AT&T store in December to get a month-to-month phone service for my unlocked smartphone. I was assured that it was a month-to-month deal with no cancellation penalty. In addition, I could apply my employer's discount to the basic monthly rate when I started working a month later, which made for a great overall package. I walked out pleased with my new service. Fast-forward five months later. I cancelled my AT&T account to switch over to another carrier, and paid what I believed to be the remainder of the balance. A month later I received another bill from AT&T in the mail for a "contract cancellation fee" of $142. When I called the AT&T customer service to ask why I was being charged this fee on a month-to-month service, I was told that my employer discount necessitated a 2-year contract... so in January, when I called customer service to add my employer discount, they just switched me to a 2-year contract without notifying me! The original contract I signed WAS a month-to-month. They just switched it to a 2-year when they applied the employer discount. Isn't that just awesome??? So bottom line, the store personnel engaged in an unethical and deceitful business practice. read more

For me, bad service gets 2 stars. I save 1 stars for business I feel *really* screwed me. This AT&T location managed to do just that. I went in to AT&T almost 1 month ago because I needed both a new phone, and a wireless hotspot. I had called the AT&T customer service line in advance and worked out a deal with them, but it turned out I needed both of these items faster than the phone service could deliver them. They recommended I get them from the store, though she could not arrange that herself because the store and phone are on different systems. Strange, for a communication services company in 2014, but nonetheless I went down to this shop. It took a little bit of doing and pressing, but eventually (maybe 10 minutes of talking) I got them to agree to the terms the agent set out on the phone. This wasn't a big issue at all. Here's where the issue comes in: I was left believing that my new phone+plan+hotspot would be running me about $40/mo more than I was paying before. That's because they COMPLETELY neglected to tell me about sign-up fees, surcharges, and somehow, a $20/mo fee they neglected to ever mention on that new hotspot. They led me to believe the hotspot wouldn't cost much extra/all of that extra was included in the extra $40/mo I had agreed to spend. So when I though I'd get a $140 phone bill this month, it turned out to be a $200 bill. I called customer service to try to fix it, but since it had been over 14 days, they said there was nothing they could do about it. Most of that extra $60 is one-time fees (THAT I WAS NEVER TOLD ABOUT), but still, $20 of it is a monthly recurring fee that I was never told about either, so my regular monthly bill would end up being $160 instead of $140 anyway. I have been an AT&T customer for many years, but I have ever intention of leaving them within the next 18 months (as soon as my contract is up) due to their attitudes and behaviours in this matter. read more

Unfortunately there is no "0" star rating, nor is there an indication of time wasted at this establishment (both the local store and AT&T as a whole). As a Yelper whose ratings are typically quite positive, please take this as a serious condemnation. My phone has been largely dysfunctional for the past 3 months. Like many of us here in DC, who work 80 hours/week, getting the time to fix these sorts of problems requires sacrifice of either our precious free time or actually taking leave from work. Despite 6 separate attempts to fix my phone via telephonic communication with AT&T, then 2 trips to the Apple store, and finally 2 trips to this AT&T store, my phone remains unapologetically unfixed. There was not even acknowledgement of why this situation would be frustrating, and moreover there was no effort made other than scripted maneuvers : "buy a new phone and extend your contract for 3 years" With no semblance of appreciation for a consumer previously loyal to the company for as long as the iPhone has been in existence, I am sad to say that AT&T fell way short of even the most modest of expectations. Needless to say, I am counting the few remaining days before the iPhone becomes available on Verizon. Also, the military "appreciation" incentives look good on paper, however there certainly was not even a second's consideration granted to an active duty serviceman with a legitimate gripe. read more

Honestly, the most competent AT&T store I have ever visited. I went the day of the iPhone 4 preorder and was helped as quickly as possible considering the lines. The manager (I wish I could remember her name) was absolutely amazing. They were probably annoyed with me because not only was I upgrading, but I was changing my number and getting a few other things taken care of (probably not the best time), but they were more than accommodating and when they couldn't finish it in the time allowed, they promised to work on the issues over the next several days and call me as soon as they were finished. read more

My cell phone died last night and, being on travel, I really needed it fixed or replaced mucho pronto. Robert greeted me when I walked in and listenned, really listened, to my situation. Rather than try to upsell me to a phone I didn't want or need or another commitment, he got me a phone that met my specifications (makes phone calls and NO camera). 20 minutes including setup of the new device and I was out the door for much less than I expected. People gripe about AT&T customer service, but if your lucky enough to run into Robert at the Dupont Circle DC store, I don't think you'll be dissapointed. read more

Hate the service!! Waited 1 hour and 30 minutes to buy a charger. There was a huge line in this small store. When I finally get to register, the AT&T representative tells me that the ATM or credit card service is not available at the moment. I was livid! It doesn't end there: Then I ask him if I can leave the store and get money from my ATM card. He said that the store has been closed for 5 minutes and if I leave I can't come back in!!! My boyfriend left, got some money from the ATM while I waited in the store. They didn't let him back in, and he had to slip the $20 dollars from underneath the door. This issue will have been easily solved with a sign saying ATM/CC is not working or letting everyone know in the line ATM is not working. The store is so small you wouldn't even had to scream it for people to hear it. Needless to say, never going back to this store again, and thinking about leaving AT&T all together. read more

Good afternoon, I am very disappointed with one of the members of your staff in DuPont Circle named Ariel. He explained to us in Spanish that my partner and I together would pay for sure no more than $120 together for our service with At&t. I asked him many questions to make sure there were no "hidden/surprise" taxes or extra charges and he said it was just that amount. When the bill came we were astonished to see the bill was $251!! ($30 were because of an international call but, even with that 120+30 are definitely not 251!). We tried to contact Ariel several times (we even went to the shop to talk to him!) and he always promised to call back. We are still wondering why we had to pay this amount and why a member of AT&T had TO LIE to get clients. I would have liked him to be more transparent, as I would have definitely rejected this company if I knew from day 1 I had to pay this initial amount. read more

Last logon was in 2008, as a matter of fact, and it's 2011 now. Besides, as long as businesses can pay their way to fewer negative reviews on Yelp, my posts should make things about even. Anyway, disclaimer aside, this should just be a quick note to say: AVOID THIS LOCATION. We'll say that they have a minimalist approach to customer service, and that's putting it lightly. I suppose it's an era of supply and demand (admittedly, for Apple products), and since there's THAT much more demand than there is supply, the staff can afford to be as discourteous as they are. I know I should probably go into more detail about my experience, but I'd rather not. Rating cell phone stores is like rating DMV's - it doesn't matter in the end what you think of them, because they have something that you require. read more

Every one I called gets the old owners name instead of mine, so they hang up. AT&T say they are powerless, and it may take up to a year to get it corrected, (smile). Am I talking to Lily Tomlin here? They suggested both that I could call my database of clients and friends and "help" them get my number corrected manually in their phone, and also I could take it up with the FCC. I went to this location to purchase an Apple Watch Series 3 and the experience that I had was the most non-customer service oriented service I've ever received from an AT&T retail store. This store had two Apple watches out for display, one 38mm and one 42mm, both with the same band, the sport band. There were no other bands available to look at, feel, ensure a good fit, etc. I was looking to purchase a $429 (+ tax) Apple Watch Series 3 GPS+Cellular, with dark olive sport loop band. I asked to be able to see the band, to ensure that it was an appropriate fit, but was flat out denied, with the staff stating that it was Apple policy, but they didn't have any other bands for me to see, try on, feel. I asked to speak with a manager. It took three times asking, before the manager, Elon Eddy, finally came out to speak with me, still spouting the hard line, "It's Policy, no, we can't." I was told if i wanted to see the bands, I'd have to go to the Apple Store. If I'd wanted to go the Apple Store, I'd have gone to the Apple Store in the first place. I was also told, if i purchased it, tried and and didn't like the band, and didn't even leave the store, that I'd have to pay a $45 restocking fee. I stated that I was 95% sure I wanted to buy this, but that I couldn't spend the type of money in their store if I couldn't ensure a proper fit. I was met with, "well, we gave you your options". I stated they if a store puts all policies above their customers, especially one who has been a customer for 11+ years, and carries 7 lines of service with their company, and always pays in time, and isn't willing to consider the situation at hand, that I wouldn't be able to work with this store. It's treatment such as this that drives consumers to competitors. The manager also, had a tendency to speak over me and not allow me to finish what I was saying; also a trait that I find to be the antithesis of customer service. I asked for the next line manager's name (Anthony Vena) and plan to email him as well. Customer service, in this store is not a priority; I hope this isn't indicative of AT&T's philosophy. A simple fix is, if you're going to sell a watch with different band options, and refuse to open a product to allow a customer to see the product, have the band options on display. And brush up on being a customer oriented company. read more

My sister lost her phone at a bar and needed a phone desperately. He helped my sister and explained the complicated system of the upgrade cycle versus the new pay as you go phone. I came with my sister again the next day since I was the authorized user and she couldnt make changes on the account. By the time I got there, I had questions of course. He was able to explain everything in detail. In addition he was able to complain our current contract and why it wasnt so beneficial having unlimited data. We ended up switching to the shared data plan, causing us to save about twenty bucks a month- which is nice. I also ended up picking up a new phone screen protector (glass) which is so much better than my matte cover. I feel like my phone is clearer. He did a good job installing it for me and my sister. Didn't make a purchase so I can't speak to that. I ordered a company phone online from AT&T. When I received the phone, the touch screen didn't work. I was greeted by a man who was not wearing a nametag and did not introduce himself. I explained that I had already been to the Apple Store and they told me that my phone purchase date was listed as 12/01/2015 (I actually purchased on 03/07/2015). They explained that they could replace it but I would lose out on 3 months of my warranty. Apple Store told me that this was an AT&T issue and I should go to this AT&T location. The man at this store looked up my phone and said that it was an Apple issue. He made no attempt to resolve the issue even after I explained I had already been to the Apple Store twice and called them. I went to the 7th St AT&T on my way home and they were much more helpful. They printed out a copy of the invoice my company received and I used that this evening to get AppleCare to correct their record of the purchase date. I would strongly recommend the 7th St location over this one. read more

Set-up an appointment for 9:30AM knowing the store opens at 9AM and to avoid people during COVID; the door was locked and lights were out when I arrived. I was really dependent on this appointment as I desperately need a new phone, so I waited. About 30 minutes later, a person I can only assume to be an AT&T representative arrives and enters the store before I can ask them about my appointment. The lights remained off and the door locked. I tried calling this location's line -- no answer -- I even knocked on the door... In short: I wasted my time setting an appointment with this store, and I'm really disappointed. In addition to me waiting, about 3 other people walked past me wanting to get inside the store -- they obviously didn't get in. read more

I went to this store to try to get my phone fixed after I had spent time on the phone with AT&T support, they told me to go into a store. I went there this morning and had the worst experience I have ever had with AT&T. The man I talked to (I wish I had got his name) was not only rude, but completely useless. He did not ask me one question about the issue with my phone. I was told 'why would I replace this for you, I'd lose money.' I said I was not trying to "scam the system" to get a new phone, I simply want this one to work properly and that I was willing to have it fixed. He told me to call Samsung warranty claims - I asked him for the number. His response: 'I don't know, Google it.' I was so frustrated that I just left the store. I will never spend money in that store again, and as soon as this contract is up, I will be leaving AT&T. read more

About a month after my daughter passed away this past June I went to my AT&T store to ask them to please cancel her line. The store associates told me that her contract wasn't up until January 2014 and we would have to wait until then to cancel the line without a substantial penalty. Since then every month my AT&T invoice comes with her name and phone number and, of course, no activity, freshly opening up this mother's broken heart. I went back to the store a couple of months after that. These store associates said they would see what they could do and they did nothing Shame on you AT&T! Do you hire employees based on their ability to crush surviving family members as they must face everyday without their loved ones? I had a horrible experience at this store. I bought my 3rd I phone here on Weds , the 7th of Sept. I was apprehensive about everything transferring to my new phone, so I expressed that concern. My sales person assured me their method was secure/safe. We filled out all the paperwork and proceeded to transfer the data from my old phone to my new phone. There was no mention of my backup status, only that it would work out fine with their system. I have bought many phones over the years and they always brought up the backup status and then they proceeded to back up my data before transferring info to the new phone. I left the store for a short meeting and when I returned they handed me my new phone and asked how it looked. My two biggest concerns, the photos and mail looked good; I looked at my calendar and notes and there were dates and notes, but I did not look closely at each date and note. I have all my business, personal and medical appointments on that calendar and I had probably 75 notes which included dozens of passwords and even more importantly, artistic and personal musings and writings ( I have been a professional artist for 40 years ), personal letters and plans for exhibitions and notes on individual works of art. 85% of these postings and dates were completely gone! I can never recover my writings about my life and art and I'm sure to miss important appointments. This did not have to happen. I have bought many phones over the years with successful transfers, even at AT&T. The assistant manger has just said they are sorry- transfer of data between phones is a gray area! From my experience Apple can do it just fine. When I pointed that out, the sales person said "we are not apple" They need to compensate me for my loss. read more

It took calling the company to change the bill, taking an extra hour. We tried to return the old phone, and they never filed it, charging us an extra $100.
