    Ceviche mixto

Was looking for a good local spot for ceviche and found this place. Been here three times now, the ceviche is great for being so close by. Service is always good too. Will continue to frequent this place

Food is phenomenal! When we frequent the area from CT, we ALWAYS stop here. Preferably more than once a trip. The staff is always friendly and great at recommending new things to try - which we have, often. Everything is delicious beyond words. A must try restaurant!

    Pollo de la brasa

Acceptable portions but food lacks flavor. First off, my extended family came for at least two Pollo de la brasa's. It was only 6:30 and they only had one(!) chicken left. How could they only have one chicken in the middle of the day I will never know. I ordered the chicken with salad, french fries, arroz chaufa with chicken, and ceviche. Chicken was bland without the iconic tasty skin you expect, the salad you could put water on it and I would never knew there was dressing on it, and the cevice was pretty bland too. The portions, french fries, and the green hot sauce were alright though.

Oh my god! If you love Peruvian food this is a MUST!!! That is all I have to say about this place! Faaaareaking amazing! Hands down the best food we have had down here in Jackson! This is literally a hole in the wall and you wouldn't even notice it. We've been wanting to come here for awhile and we are soooo happy we did! The restaurant looks like it use to be a house. You walk in and the dining area is to the right, waiting area is to the left. Fiancé ordered the churrasco to go and I ordered the chaufa mixto. First of all, the portions are huge!! You will definitely will have left overs! Prices are not bad either! So the churrasco was cooked to perfection! It came with white rice and fries. The steak was cooked to perfection. The chaufa mixto is basically fried rice with everything - chicken, beef, shrimp. One bite of it sent me to heaven!!!! It was sooooo delicious!! Let me not forget the green sauce tooo!!! That goes with literally everything!!! We are definitely coming back and suggesting this place to friends!

Authentic Peruvian food. Portions are enormous, no way you're leaving without a doggy bag. I would give it a five star if they just learned to bring everyone's entrees at the same time. We sat with five people 4 of which had food And 1 who waited an additional 10 minutes. Staff is super friendly, Chris is our guy, always smiling and very friendly. Tiny place, prices are super affordable and food is simply delicious.

Don't let the look of the restaurant fool you! It is a hole-in-the-wall with some of the best food I've eaten!

Appetizers- big enough portions, they could be a meal

I am so happy this little gem opened up so close to home!! My family and my extended family ate Peruvian food all the time in CA and obviously we had our fav restaurant. So, after moving to Jersey, Peruvian cooking is truly a food that I missed, when Asu Mare opened I couldn't wait to have dinner here. Back in November hubby and I decided to give it a try, first off know ALL portions are huge to share with minimum 2 people. Appetizers fish Ceviche, Pappa Rellena - Delicious. the fish was so flavorful and tang from the lime juice really just hit the spot. The Pappa Rellena, as a whole- was a solid and heavy item, but the potato was light and fluffy, it was the beef filling crammed into it that was so tasty and added the weight. I have to say the green chili sauce given with corn chips, tasted just as I remember it from CA, so I am super happy about that. But I don't personally like it with chips, much rather eat it the way I have always had it, with small warm soft dinner rolls with butter slathered on them first, I know.. but don't knock it till ya tried it. Moving forward I ordered the beef steak with french fries and salad HUGE serving, steak was seasoned perfectly, fries were crispy and not oily. I took over half the order home to our son who devoured it and exclaimed he needed to take his GF there, she'd love it!! Hubby had the chicken cutlet again- huge portions, juicy and extremely light batter and seasoned perfectly it came with rice and salad, hubby prefers plain rice but he liked this version and was pleased there was enough to take home with the portion of chicken he didn't finish. Dessert we took home because we were stuffed but pleasantly not the OMG I'm going to pop feeling. SO the bread pudding was nice to share later that night because we had such an early dinner. Don't forget the Inka Cola, its a bit like Cactus Cooler but without the orange flavor. It is not a huge place so get there early after 6:30p it gets packed, and service can get a bit slow, but they cook everything fresh and you can't rush certain dishes. Come when you have time and can enjoy a new experience, come and share a few appetizers, bring friends or family and put the cell phones down and have a great meal! We noticed that they do a hefty take out service and that was nice to see, they also have specials daily and serve breakfast certain days, so that is on my list to try. But seafood is something I really enjoy so we will be back to try the many seafood dishes they create.

The food is quite good, I have no qualms there. We ordered a LOT of food. Roasted chicken, two types of ceviche, seafood fried rice, etc. We also got a sweet drink, made of the corn, which no one was really a fan of, as it was overly sweet. You're given a small dish of roasted or fried corn to nibble on while you wait, which was nice, but it took forever for our food to come out. And it came out so sporadically, so that the first couple of people were done with their dishes by the time the last dish came out. I know it's a small restaurant, but it's very uncomfortable to have to either stare at your food while it gets cold or eat while another person stares at you. Also, it should have been told that one dish is definitely enough for 2-3 people. Do not over order!

    Bad chaufa mixto

I used to like this restaurant though I preferred Don Pepe but it was a good alternative until yesterday. Ordered something regular chaufa mixto beef chicken and shrimps. What came out was almost inedible, the beef chicken and shrimps were so overcooked and thus very dry. Let the picture speak for itself. Guess not coming back here again.

If there is a TV playing live soccer, then it is a definite authentic Latino restaurant lol.

The place was cute, in it's own lil buidling. You can tell it is definitely family owned. Very casual setting, with a TV playing soccer in background. Ordered the arroz con pollo (their typcial rice and chicken meal) and papa rellena (stuffed potato ball). Wasn't a fan of either meal unfortunately. This is partly due to the fact I am not a fan of olives (they used kalamta olives in the rellena) and they stuffed hard boiled eggs and other random thing in the ball. As for the rice and chicken, they were lacking for me in flavor. The place seems popular enough so maybe I ordered the wrong items. But I have had Cuban and Puerto Rican papa rellenas (which I love) so was pretty disappointed with these. They do give a very generous portion so you will be full at least.

This place does trick you from the outside. Asu Mare is a small Peruvian restaurant in Freehold, New Jersey. The staff is very nice, but the food is even better. It is very authentic and really hits those taste buds nicely! I'd definitely recommend to try it! Everyone at my table really enjoyed their meals. The reason why I gave this 4/5 stars is because my food came about 20 minutes after my peers. Though they had to start without me, we all ended very full and thankful we got the recommendation to try this place!

A treasured hole in the wall place for amazing food and incredible service. The food portions are out of this world so come hungry and will definitely leave with doggie bags. The staff was very attentive and explained any question in detail. Will be a frequent guest to this spot.

I tried some of the yucca huancain and it was good. The yucca seemed overcooked. The sauce was a little too thick. It may be because it was take out so the dish got cold.
