First time here at the Spanish little diner that used to be a checkers and let me say for nine dollars it is not lacking anything clearly you can see his platter big chicken quarter rice and beans with vegetables for nine dollars you get exactly what you want and while the chicken could be Maybe an extra minute or two on the rotisserie it is nothing short of flavor. We were in the parking lot and our 6-year old smelled the air and said, "mama, I want that." And that, we did have. When you first walk in, it's an un-assuming set up with stool seating reminiscent of an old timey American diner. The space is small, yet charming. They have a menu consisting of specially prepared dishes that rotate daily. You have a choice to select a combo consisting of rice, beans, veggies/plantain, and a main dish. I opted for a combo with the Spanish rice, black beans, braised short ribs, and vegetables. The husband chose a steak sandwich. We also got the fresh lemonade and passion fruit. We enjoyed our meal. I'm sorry, but the food wasnt good. The service was nice the lady at the counter was kind and patience. The restaurant itself was clean little diner feel with outdoor benches as well. I order the chicken no seasoning that I could distinguish and it tasted old. Same for the plantains. Lastly had the fruit juice puns colada. Could drink it I think it was coconut milk watered down. This food is sooo good. We got two platters to go, two waters, 4 empanadas, and an iced tea and all that cost me $29. It's sooooo much food and it's good! The people were so kind. They speak English and Spanish. I heard it's Cuban food but i didn't ask today when i went. I didn't see anything either that indicated any nationality or ethnicity. Either way the food is good. Ambience is good. It's small in there. I personally wouldn't eat there but there were a couple people eating there at like "bar tables" They aren't really bars but just high tables and stools to sit at. No alcohol here. BUT there is plenty of outdoor seating. It's also very clean here. Only reason I'm not giving 5/5 is because I felt my pernil was a little on the dry side. Also the chicken wasn't flavorful. 3 of us went for a late lunch. We had the goat, Piccadillo, yucca, Maduros, rice and beans with black beans on top. We had 3 sodas. The bill for 3 was $23!! And we had some food left to take home. The kids were hankering for Cuban sandwiches, and I am always down for real Cuban food, so after a little research, I decided to take a gamble and try this restaurant. I am so glad I did. The neighborhood in general isn't bad, but the exact block is so so and it shares a parking lot with a grocery store which seems to have a particular element hanging out, especially in the dark. But the restaurant itself is charming, with a retro 1950s style going on. It isn't big, and most of the seating is barstool style along the outer windows, with a single table in the center for handicapped. Most of the patrons seem to take their food to go. If you're familiar with authentic Cuban eateries, you're no stranger to the cafeteria style setup, which is what they have. A huge hanging menu informs you of what their daily specials are, each day of the week. They always have beans and rice, empanadas with various fillings, and fresh juices and smoothies. My older kids got their Cubano sandwiches, which were the real deal, and my youngest, who is not a big fan, opted for rigatoni bolognese(!), which was interesting as the sauce was Cuban style instead of Italian. He loved it. I got the lechón (roasted pulled pork), black beans and rice, and maduros (fried plantains). I was shocked when they gave us real plates (actually, more like platters) when I said we were eating there... and then she proceeded to literally mound the food on this platter as I wondered how I would be able to eat it all. Spoiler alert: I did, it was amazing. It tasted like someone's abuela was cooking. The staff is so incredibly sweet and chatted with my daughter while they rang us up. They are incredibly attentive and keep the place immaculately clean. Beverages run the full gamut: bottled water and the usual bottled American soft drinks, plus Latin soft drinks, freshly made juices, and I saw an espresso machine. And most stunning of all? Pre Covid restaurant prices. This will definitely be a go to place of mine for the future. read more

This is a small restaurant in a former Sonic location in front of a Latin Supermarket. They serve Daily Specials and a la carte. I stopped in last Thursday for the Ropa Vieja and it was amazing!!! Please keep the Chef, he knows how to cook authentic Cuban food. On Mondays they serve Picadillo which is also very good. You can order Cuban sandwiches and other a la carte items. Their empanadas are Cuban empanadas and the guava and cheese ones are perfect. And best of all, you can't beat the prices. The Daily Specials include rice and beans and another side, the plantains are very good but the Yucca in mojo is delicious. You can eat in at either communal tables or they have a counters running both sides of the restaurant., But there is not a lot of room for a large family. They have a booming take out business.. I used to love to go there. The food is delicious and affordable. However, the last 3 times I went, on Wednesday, they never have enough of my favorite,, the beef stew and I find that absolutely ridiculous. They are always out of it and used to always have it. I went a couple of times around 7 pm and they were out. I went today at 5:00 pm,, and again, they are out. Owner, PLEASE have your staff make enough beef stew for your customers. I can't understand how you run out of it even at the start of dinner time. You lost a customer but I hope for others you pay attention to having enough of your entrees.
