Internet - fantastic performance and price. Cable - Perpetuates the hatred I have for cable TV services. We left Grande last year in June 2020 during a local home move in Corpus Christi, TX because year-over-year their rates increased significantly. These increases took the form of taxes and fees which accounted for 45-50% of my total bill. After leaving Grande and while shopping for another service a salesman came to my door selling Grande service. He was professional and sold me a cable TV product which had significantly reduced taxes and fees and brought my bill back toward its original rate from years prior. We stood in my doorway, calculated EXACTLY what my monthly bill would be, and shook hands for new Grande service to be initiated in August 2020. I had finally felt decent about a purchase - primarily due to my interaction with him and the explicit clarity with which he assured me no changes from our agreed price would occur. I took a picture of his business card and exactly what we wrote down and agreed upon together, it is captured below: 78.75 (TV) + 37.99 (6 Gig Internet) = 116.74 + 8.25% tax = 126.37. When I received my first bill, there were extra fees that were added that the salesman had not accounted for. Infuriating! After a few lengthy phone calls with Grande, explaining fee increases was exactly why I had dropped them in the first place, they eventually credited my account such that my monthly total equaled 127.13. While I was not happy with this compromise as it was not exactly what we had agreed upon, I was able to stomach it. Today I received my bill for the new year (Jan 2021) and low and behold..... ANOTHER RATE INCREASE!!!! After calling Grande, the customer service rep pointed me to the back of page 4 of my December 2020 bill where I was "conveniently notified" of a pending rate increase due to increasing pass through fees from network re-transmission surcharges, etc.... Grande doesn't seem to get it. I don't want to be notified of arbitrary rate increases that they claim to not have control over. I simply don't want rate increases!!!! I want to pay the agreed upon price for the agreed upon service! The largest rate increases was assigned to offset the cost of the local and regional broadcast television signals. These are free channels with an antenna. Grande and their rate increases makes me feel like a doormat and a chump. Grande needs to negotiate better rates, openly advertise accurate rates which they have the capability to maintain, or drop every channel causing these rate increases. Instead, they continue to demonstrate that they don't care to do this because they can just pass these fees on to the customer and say "its not our fault". Most customers are willing to pay these incremental rate increases because they already have the service and it would be too much hassle to change. I've reached a point where I'm going to cancel and use another provider on principle, even if it costs more money, just so I can avoid feeling the Grande TV bait and switch. read more

Due to an issue with my info on my application, Grande canceled my installation without calling, emailing, or texting me. After I waited all day for the technician to arrive (Saturday) and called Grande, I learned about this. I also learned that I would have to bring physical documents in on Monday and would not be able to get internet until the next Friday at the earliest. If someone had simply emailed or called me, I could have brought the documents in this past Friday, and I would have internet now. I sent my application a week before - there was a whole week to let me know about the information issue. Although the first line customer care agents were very polite, the supervisor was much less so. The supervisor said contradicting statements, blamed first line customer care agents for misinformation and said it would be impossible to get a technician to install internet before the nxt Friday. I feel it is ridiculous that after making me wait all day, because no one called or emailed me, I will now have to wait out the entire working week for internet. We have jobs and school courses we need to attend. I said it would be worth the extra $10 per month to go with "Grande the local Texas ISP", and I failed because now we are stuck without internet. read more

I loved Grande circa 2008 but 2020 Grande has turned into your typical internet monopoly. Customer service: the last few times we have called, we have been left waiting on hold for over an hour. They don't communicate increases in bills or payment issues to you. When we asked them if there was anything deals that they could give we were paying almost $100 for 300mb of service, they told us no -- until we had already moved on to a different provider. (And then it took as another hour on the phone to disconnect.) We also had Grande before we moved and scheduled the service to disconnect. Instead, they kept it going and then sent the bill to collections! Internet service: for the money, we were not getting a lot. And in the last few years, we have noticed *a lot* of service interuptions. Some of them would go on for hours. Price: Grande was a great deal when we joined in 2008. Then they kept quietly increasing our bill. It was up to $95 for only 300mb of service. (And a speedtest told us that it was often much slower.) And when my credit card was stolen and I had to change the number, Grande charged me $45 for a declined autopay ($30) and late fee ($15) and couldn't even be bothered to send an email about it. I regret leaving At&T for this crap. I just spent 40 mins speaking with a customer service rep who essentially told me i don't know where i was born. I couldnt log into my online account to see the full breakdown for services. I called customer service to get help. after greeting formalities. She started verifying, then she said "I need to remember my security questions in order to access my account." Thats fine. when I stated "if you ask me the question I can give the answer" To which she replied: "where your born?" to which I said "Brooklyn" and her reply was you "did not respond correct." I said there are only two places I've lived and named the other place she replied no that's not it either. At this point I'm getting Irritated because she says there's another question but she can't tell me because I didn't verify the first. I go on an tell her "I've only lived in two places and I signed up several months ago I don't remember any of the question. I'm the only person on the account and I can provide other forms of verification if needed." to which she repied: "I'd need to go into an office and show Id and can get verified that way." (All I kept thinking was I miss At&T. or Spectrum they would never be this disorganized and inconvenient) I asked her what is the nearest location and hours. She reply's "Austin's location ... and it's closed saturdays" (today is Saturday) at this point I had enough and said "this isant going anywhere and I'm actually getting annoyed. I can't understand why something so simple was made into the verification olympics. I told her this is going no where and pointless. she began to apologize and say some scripted words like a bad actor but at this point I had enough and just hung up. By far my worst customer service experience. it's bad enough the internet periodically goes down but bad customer service on top of that. I've had enough. The change to Astound has not improved tech support. They say everything is working on their servers but I get emails saying their server is "blocked". They won't follow up. I bought a new router and modem and I am now getting the 300Mbps that is my "plan" even though the lowest speed they are now advertising is 400Mbps. Can't get them to provide 400 and can't get them to troubleshot blocked servers. The webmail is so arcane and ancient that is worthless. That is why they don't "support" 3rd party email clients. Not at all sure any other ISP available to me is better. Out in the country I have Starlink - expensive but there is no alternative except ViaSat & Hughes. So far Starlink works. My service was canceled because the autopay got disabled. I got no email, nor regular mail, about the disablement of autopay. Customer service told me to pay the bill with and the fees to enable the service and unlock the account, so they could waive the fees since it was an issue on their end. Next day when I called to verify if the fees will be waived, the other representative told me that unfortunately they cannot do it. I told that the previous representative said otherwise. She insisted that they can't do it. Then I asked if the previous rep lied to me, the answer was YES! So here we are, they are lying and not denying it. Their AutoPay is broken. At first, their service looks like a good deal, but with this kind of manipulations, you end up paying more than ATT Fiber. I would not recommend it because reliability is also not that good. read more

I saw red flags from the beginning but wanted to support a local business, rather than the internet monopolies available in Austin. First, installation took over a week. I scheduled last minute, so was flexible with this. Then my first bill came -- nearly double what I was quoted. I called and they said the costs included fees that I was not informed of. They apologized that I was not informed prior to setting up service but there was nothing they could do. I ran with it, status quo for 2 years. When I was moving earlier this month I called to cancel my service for 3 days from them and schedule a technician to come pick up equipment. They confirmed all of this. I tried to work the following day but kept having internet issues. Working from home during the pandemic, obviously my workday is reliant on WiFi. I called thinking they may have accidentally shut off my service, which I was assured was not the case, that there was an outage in my area that would be fixed soon. When I called back 5 hours later, the same thing. I ended up having to take a day of PTO. The next morning I logged on to work again and ran into the same WiFi issues. Surely an internet outage cannot take more than 24 hours to resolve? Same song and dance when I called. Finally, I called for a fourth time, only for a manager to confirm that they had shut off my internet two days prior... I took 1.5 days PTO. They offered me $4 back. Last but not least, they continued to bill me. That's right, they terminated my service early but did not complete the paperwork on their side to end my contract financially. We've been Grande customers for probably 15 years, maybe more - ever since they were a little startup out of San Marcos going around knocking on doors in Austin trying to get people to try them out. We were using Time Warner at the time and their service was pretty crummy so we switched to Grande. Our service has been pretty good - not too many outages, but they continually jack up the price for service every 6 months to a year. They always jack up the price after 6 months or a year - guaranteed - and in our case it generally goes up 10%-20% each time. The last time they jacked up the price they increased it by around 20%. Today they nearly doubled the price for 50Mbit service from $45/month to $64.99/month. They offered to switch us to 300Mbit for $56.99 but that price will expire at the end of the year and won't be renewed, they said. As it turns out they offer 1GB service for not much more than they're charging us for 50Mbit service. I asked them why we were paying so much for service such slow service compared to the price of their gigabit service and the answer from customer service was, "because we can. We have to make a profit". They do not give customer loyalty discounts to existing customers or long-term customers. Also, the rate they quote you over the phone or at the door is a special introductory rate in order to hook you. That rate will expire in 6 months and your bill will take a huge price jump as they bill you the full price for your service. "Bait and switch" anyone? We've complained about their "Gone With the Wind" attitude - "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn", but nothing has changed over the years. I found out via a google search that they are teaming with two other large cable operators across the country in order to "take over the world" of internet service. Our WiFi goes out consistently. Every. Single. Day. Multiple times a day. We must unplug the modem to restart the WiFi and it takes about 10 minutes to get it back up and running for an unknown amount of time before we have to do it again. The only reason they get 2 stars is because Ernie was awesome when I called and he gave me his number to call if anything happened after he came and switched out my modem. I called him when it went out and he called back immediately and helped walk me through what I should do. Now I just do that myself every time it goes out, which again, is often. read more

Updated: Talked to a rep who was able to remove the trip fee mentioned below. As a result, increased the rating. Ultimately, the purpose of an ISP is to provide internet, and that wasn't done to a good degree, so the rating only went up a little. Old review: We had their service for about 4-5 months. Over the course, the speeds were never what we expected. We increased our max speed in hopes that would fix it, it did not. After a couple days (less than a week), we had someone come out. He was very incompetent and offered no help. He kept repeating "I get the correct speed out of the modem, so it's not our problem". Well, sadly, it is your problem, as I'm not getting the speed on the XBox which is hardlined in, my computer, which is hardlined in, or my phone over wifi. So, we cancelled, and went with AT&T which now provides us about 300+ Mbps over wifi, and much faster on a hardline. Afterwards, I got my last bill from Grande. They conveniently included a 60 dollar "Trip fee". So, it comes down to, if you want subpar internet speeds for what you're paying, along with a "trip fee" when you try to point out they messed up, then go ahead with this scummy company. Otherwise, if you're in the Austin area at least, go with AT&T. read more

I understand that all cable packages come with taxes and fees on top of the price they advertise. That's just part of the game. The reason I'm leaving one star for this particular cable company is that their "Taxes and Fees" doubled the price of the cable package I was interested in. When I spoke to representatives to try and find out why this was the case, they talked in circles and refused to give me a breakdown of why their taxes and fees are over $80 a month, while other cable companies' fees in the same area for the same services are around $20. Call me crazy, but it seems like they're hiding something, and I don't need any more of a reason to distrust cable companies. I understand that a little dishonesty is part of the game with cable companies. It is what it is. But the level of dishonesty exhibited by Grande is beyond the pale. Go with the devil you know, not the devil that is trying to hide an extra $60 in hidden fees behind a price that looks (and is) too good to be true. Moved into an apartment complex that ONLY has Grande Comms, was confident that they wouldn't do that with a bad provider but ASTOUND/GRANDE is by far the worst ISP I have ever encountered. Haven't had internet for 12+ hours, called 5 times and got hung up on everytime they were "transferrin me to an agent". If you have ANY other options, even ATT, GO WITH THEM & stay far aware. It's that time again! To give Grande another disappointing review. I have had Grande at my address for 4 years +. I transferred service to my friend's name last summer and am moving back into the place this month. She called to transfer it into my name and they won't do it even though A) they've done it before no problem a year ago and B) I've been a loyal customer, paying on time at the same address for years. So tired of companies like these where, depending on the day and who you talk to, you may or may not have a simple request granted. I ordered internet and local channels. The tech that installed the hardware didn't provide any tutorials or instructions. The incorrect channel package was installed. The hardware was not setup. I had to work with Support to get the channel box setup. They have invoiced the incorrect amount 2 months in a row now. Word to the wise if you live in a duplex or in a divided lot with multiple units that have the same street address-- Grande's systems apparently can't tell the difference between an A and a B, and they'll cut your internet off if someone in the other unit has new Grande service started! We notified them of the outage at our place a little before noon today, were informed it was a "glitch", and told it would be fixed today. It's six hours later and still no internet. I don't have high hopes it will be fixed before Monday, and literally all I wanted to do after the holidays was relax and watch movies. Under regular circumstances the service is OKish, although it often drops for a few minutes in the evening right around 6:00 or so. However, this is ridiculous and frustrating. There are TWO structures here, and it is very obvious that they are different. They should develop better systems to track addresses, and give techs the latitude to develop and use common sense. When you think of horrible service, poor customer service and company that pretends like it cares then you should choose Grande Communications. It is a serious feat to be the worst in customer service across all broadband providers, but Grande is a distance number one in this department. The best part is that if you do experience an outage, latency problems or any other issues they will send a technician out, but if this technician decides the issue is with the apartment complex, apartment unit, etc then guess what you get to pay for the technician coming out!! This is the type of company that should be banish to the depths based on the type of service they provide. It is absolutely horrendous and you would think being one of the smaller players in the broadband market that they would make an effort to better their product and service. However, this isn't the case and they are head and shoulders worse than Spectrum. I know broadband/telecom providers naturally have terrible customer service given their monopolies and consolidation (except Google), but Grande has figured out a way to surpass everyone else in the industry. It takes forever to get a hold of someone and the service is bad/spotty. They are unhelpful when you do get them on the line and the genuinely do not care. The serice and ESPECIALLY the extremely rude technicians come into your house just to tell you that your apartment isn't supported by grande even though the grande website that you bought the service off of says it is. After the 2nd technician decided to install my internet he said the EXACT SAME THING AS THE FIRST TECHNICIAN WHICH I HAD ALREADY KNOWN!!! The internal communication at grande is so bad that not even the techs know whats going on. I had known my apartment needed a postwire installation 4 days before it happened and grande still managed to screw up and not install the postwire. Like how can a company be so damn incompetent???!! And don't you dare expect to wait any less than 25 minutes to talk to a customer rep at the company. And after all said and done Grande just told me the same thing they did after the first tech visted "your apartment isnt supported by grande"....... Honestly the experience was so harrowing that I feel the need to actively tell people how bad the service is to avoid the pain and frustration that comes with dealing with a company this incompetent!! read more

I've been using Grande Grande Internet Service is a pretty good service but with a few caveats that I'll mention in a moment. So I first signed up in January 2019 the price was in my opinion great I had been paying $81.45 per month for a 1 Gigabit (1Gbps) internet-only service that worked most of the time. Within my first month, Grande sent out a software update of some kind that seemingly broke my router I called and scheduled for a technician to come but they never showed up and then Grande charged me for the service that never occurred. I called pissed off and got it straightened out and my refund within an hour. Needless to say, I've never called for a technician again. I've found that treating my router like a laptop computer solves almost all technical problems to which I mean I keep it on my desk with lots of room to breathe and I unplug it for one night every seven or days to let it cool off & rest as I sleep. Now performance-wise I have almost never gotten up to the 1Gbps that I pay for, most of the year my speeds have sat around 400-650 Mbps download with a nearly constant 45-50 Mbps upload. Although, my speeds are significantly lower than what I've been paying for I haven't suffered too many problems and any that I did have were quickly remedied either a hard reboot of my router or a short phone call. Anyone considering Grande Internet service should take note that they are not forthcoming with their prices they won't volunteer any information unless directly asked for specific answers and exact dollar amount prices. The initial set up in January 2019 cost $120 and change. The 1Gbps plan with a one-year promo price cost $81.45 per month. Now it's January 2020 and I still have Grande. However, the past month has been incredibly irritating as mentioned earlier they won't volunteer any information so when my promo pricing ended and my bill increased by $20 I had to find out what was going on myself and after a year on service, I decided to downgrade to their 600 Mbps plan and was promised the price of $83.83 per month in 2020 including January but this morning I discovered a $97 charge for this month and had to call in to find out what the heck happened. The explanation made sense they charged me for the 1Gbps price for days of use prior to downgrading. But I wish they would have told me they were going to do that instead of promising me with multiple assurances of one price and then charging me another. Overall, they are good cheap internet and better than AT&T my previous provider but keep a vigilant eye on your bills although painlessly fixed "errors" do occur and you will have to call to fix them yourself. read more

My apartment complex has a contract with them so no other cable company can come in offer service. I have been with them for 4 years in this unit and honestly speaking the service really sucks. They have sent out many techs to try to fix the problem and no one has fixed it. I get error code V52 every week and the picture is so pixelated that you can't even watch tv.. It has gotten to the point to where I am considering moving because I can't have cable service. I have never had a cable provider who could not fix a problem with their service. I don't know whats wrong but it has reached a boiling point. The bill steadily goes up and the service suck. read more

Fraudulent company. They keep increasing your bills by between $10 to $20 every month, hoping you won't notice. Avoid at all cost.

DON'T CHOOSE GRANDE. They have been the absolute WORST company we have ever dealt with. We used them last year, didn't have many issues, the biggest one was that the technician came into our house without a mask on (and this was before vaccines). We recently moved to a new place in Austin and have been waiting for WEEKS for them to transfer our internet. They have rescheduled us five times already, with days in between each appointment, and no solution or reason to why this has happened. We have talked to a least a dozen different people, asked for managers the last few calls and never talked to anyone who can solve anything for us. All we heard is it should only take 15 minutes to connect, but have had a myriad of excuses to why it hasn't happened, just depends on who you talk to. We just want internet! This has been a huge burden on our work and life and I don't want anyone to have to go through the stress we have. The saddest part was that we couldn't FaceTime/zoom our families during the holidays, even though we were supposed to have internet well before then according to them. We currently still don't have internet with them and the latest manager we spoke to had zero solutions or time frame for us. This is despicable. I hope no one chooses them for internet. I get all internet companies are garbage, but this has been the worst and has ruined our lives the last couple months. I feel bad for the employees there and I feel bad for their customers. Also editing this to say Brian is the worst customer service rep ever. He was unbelievably rude and refused to help us. We told him our entire story of everything we've gone through and he tried to blame us and yelled at us over the phone. Just got a call from the company that we were going to be charged for it if it's left outside and someone needs to be home. That's not going to happen, people have to work and we will not be going out of our way to drop it off somewhere. That's not our problem anymore. Also, got Brian again on the phone. I called from my new home to set up wifi, I was told I could set it up myself - no tech required. They put me on hold for 30 minutes the next person told me I needed to make a tech apt. For someone to come out. We were supposed to have a tech come out from 10 a.m. to Noon CST the very next day and no one called or showed up - when I called to get a status check, the tech marked the job as "complete". Since I work from home, this was super frustrating. I called in and they said they would have someone call in half an hour - I never received a call and no one came to set up my wifi. I keep having to shuttle back and forth between my home and the coffee shop to work/check if any missed calls might be the tech waiting for me but nope. I called back and they hung up on me AND THEN had the AUDACITY to send me a $100 bill for the start-up/installation costs for the wifi I NEVER GOT. I recently posted this on my Facebook and will put it here too because while no company is perfect I believe those who strive to be good should be rewarded for it. I have had many cable companies in my life and by far Grande Communications is the one that has stepped up and done everything it can to TRY to be the perfect cable company when Donny others aren't even attempting to be decent. That is until I found my current cable company. I want to throw this recommendation out to you guys because this company has saved my sanity. IF YOU GET THE OPPORTUNITY PLEASE TRY GRANDE COMMUNICATIONS OUT! I have had them since we first moved to Odessa and not once have I had to wait on hold for more than a couple minutes. Not once have I talked to someone who wasn't one of the most friendly representatives I have come across. Not once have I had to wait more than 24 hrs for a technician to come to my home. Their service is reliable and very rarely glitches. The internet speed allows us to stream movies and game at the same time without slowing either down. But the most important things are these: #1 They are customer service geniuses! They care about giving their customers a good experience and the strive to provide the best one they can. Even in my franchised area they don't let the fact that we have no other option stop them being the best they can be to us. #2 Their prices are reasonable and affordable and they have a plan that will fit just about any budget and will help you to determine the best plan for you. #3 They have the most reliable service I have come across yet. GRANDE COMMUNICATIONS is a TEXAS based company that serves most all of the state. Numerous dropped internet instances this past month. These would last anywhere from an hour to six. Grande will come out to service our home without warning and will disconnect internet while doing so. If you call their customer support number and follow the menu option to cancel service, you'll instead be "transferred" at which point they end the call. read more

Grande's litterbugs strike again... this time, leaving coaxial cable and splitters on my property, on the ground NEXT TO THE TRASH CANS. Last time, it was a spool of fiber optic cable in the street (see photo). Once again, I had packet loss (in chunks - not sporadically). Once again, I called and asked about possible maintenance, upgrades, or installations in my area that might be the cause, and I was told there was nothing on their end. This time, when I came home from running errands hours later (since I couldn't work from home without reliable internet), a Grande truck pulled up outside of my home just after I arrived home. I wasn't expecting them. I asked the men in the truck if they were there about the calls I'd made earlier that day. They said yes. I told them I had not been notified about technicians being sent to my address. They said they were there to check everything. I went into the house. At one point, I peeked outside and saw one of them almost knocking the other one over while spinning around in my driveway with a ladder held horizontally. "Please don't let them hit my car," I thought to myself. Later on these clowns knocked at the door and asked to check my modem. Um, no. I had no previous notifications or phone calls to expect these jokers, their professionalism was nonexistent, and I wasn't letting them into my home. Previous technicians? Totally professional and seemingly trustworthy. What the hell, Grande? If you hire clowns, fine. At the very least - CALL ME BEFORE YOU COME TO MY HOUSE. It's 2019. Astound | Austin - Grande's litterbugs left this fiber optic cable in front of my house under the utility pole that they visit daily. - Internet Service Providers Near Me - Austin, Texas

This is the worst internet service I have had in 17 years...since I had dial-up with EarthLink. I got their 600 mbs service and it is horrendous. Speed test shows download speed of 600 mbs+ but latency makes everything run super slow. Gaming will NOT work...servers have to be responsive to be competitive. Even simple browsing of web sites is excruciatingly slow. And don't even try to get online during peak online traffic hours. So much for Astound fiber optic. I have decided to go back to my previous provider which I had issues with but never close to the sub par service I get from Astound. They have offered a super deal with upgraded lines, router, and modem, and still less than what I pay for Astound now. read more
