If there is something I would consider as a reason to knock points from Third Avenue Chocolate…read moreShoppe, it would be the somewhat intimate lighting inside. For an establishment that is a candy shop, it feels almost ashamed to advertise itself. Indeed, the display cases are well lit, and maybe that's the idea- but this lacks the identity of a Wonka-esque world of pure imagination. Indeed, I would knock things down from 5-stars to 4-stars were I an interior decorating snob, but I don't come for the decor, I come for the confectioneries. It's an easy place to get service. Just ask and you shall receive. The choices of chocolate are many- indeed too many for such a review- and if you don't care for chocolate? There are many choices to be had besides. Indeed, the idea of domestic candies can be intimidating. We are all so very used to brand names, but find a familiar recipe, have a moment's courage, and you may find a new favorite. If not? The store is home to more than a few classic brands of sweet, sour, and otherwise yummies. I insist you come in yourself and examine each item up close. Treat yourself as well as you do others.

I ordered ten dozen cupcakes to share at the Garden State Film Festival for my friend's birthday! They even "reserved " one dozen especially for us to enjoy together later with sprinkles and "Happy Birthday" messages! We made a million friends that day and shared them with the staff at the Berkeley Oceanfront- who were thrilled! The cakes were luscious and moist - and apropos to their name - as sweet and wonderful as you could ever hope a cupcake to be! We got churro, red velvet, chocolate sundae, eclair, chocolate raspberry, sprinkles, coconut and a half dozen other flavors - each more sumptuous than the last! I thought it would be a small bakery with a few simple items, but they had so much more: muffins, croissants, other baked goods, chocolates, smoothies, and even the popular Dot Cake. The owner was there, which made the experience feel even more special. She was incredibly friendly and welcoming, made me a smoothie, and was able to add protein powder, which I really appreciated. She also let me sample some chocolates while we chatted. This is exactly the kind of small business I love supporting. The space also seems like a great place to sit, read, write, or enjoy a treat. My fiance has been emailing the owner to no avail and he was finally able to reach her by phone on the week of my wedding. She made my fiance call the town to try to obtain a permit and did not even attempt to call. I was planning to pay a decent amount for a wedding and she asked if the venue workers can scoop ice cream to my wedding coordinator. The business owner then told my fiance that the wedding coordinator told her to have my fiance call the town for a permit, which this is a blatant lie because my wedding coordinator called me with concerns as a vendor typically will deal with parking. They asked if me and my fiance can help during our wedding to guide them in or assist with parking and if they couldn't find parking it would eat into our paid time. We have other vendors where this is not a problem. The location was discussed when it was agreed upon. If I could give zero stars I would because my wedding is this week. She also charges my credit card without authorization as she did not finalize parking and did not email if she was coming to the event due to her complaining about the parking, mind you this is two days before the wedding Baked bear is amazing and I had more professionalism and organization in one phone call compared to this horrible experience.
