If there is something I would consider as a reason to knock points from Third Avenue Chocolate Shoppe, it would be the somewhat intimate lighting inside. For an establishment that is a candy shop, it feels almost ashamed to advertise itself. Indeed, the display cases are well lit, and maybe that's the idea- but this lacks the identity of a Wonka-esque world of pure imagination. Indeed, I would knock things down from 5-stars to 4-stars were I an interior decorating snob, but I don't come for the decor, I come for the confectioneries. It's an easy place to get service. Just ask and you shall receive. The choices of chocolate are many- indeed too many for such a review- and if you don't care for chocolate? There are many choices to be had besides. Indeed, the idea of domestic candies can be intimidating. We are all so very used to brand names, but find a familiar recipe, have a moment's courage, and you may find a new favorite. If not? The store is home to more than a few classic brands of sweet, sour, and otherwise yummies. I insist you come in yourself and examine each item up close. The shop is adorable in beautiful Spring Lake in New Jersey. Many lovely treats and assortments. The staff was sweet and helpful. I had nonpareils milk chocolate. unfortunately, I am spoiled by Lee Sims chocolates in Jersey City, New Jersey. And I found the 3rd Ave milk chocolate did not compare to Lee Sims quality of richness, smoothness, and deliciousness. read more

This is my favorite chocolate shop at the Jersey Shore. It has recently changed ownership and Joyce has done a beautiful job. When you walk in, you are greeted with the smell of delicious chocolate--the chocolates and caramels are made in house. It is painted a relaxing blue with lovely local art on the walls. It's also important to me that it's always very clean when I walk in. There is a variety of candy and even ice cream. My favorite thing to get here is the milk chocolate caramels! They melt in your mouth and are always very fresh. If you need a gift, there are platters for you to choose from, already wrapped and on glass plates in the shapes of shells and fish. Alongside chocolate, there are plenty of popular sweets to check out. Going to the chocolate shop is a very happy experience for me and I will continue to go back!! Who can resist stopping in for a $1.00 ice cream cone. I mean ice cream and me are not friends but I can't even resist this deal. I occasionally stop in for my favorite treat a milk chocolate covered pretzel (nooooo candy or cookie on it). Theirs are pretty good. I tried the fruit slices today but they were not up to my friends or my standards. They always have the saltwater taffy to make up your on mixed bag of your favorites. Today I noticed a new flavor chocolate sea salt taffy but they only sold that flavor in a bag for with the one kind for 2.75. Yum!!! Nearly all the chocolates are made on site. They have the usuals (chocolate covered graham crackers, oreos, marshmallows, turtles, etc), and also a number of unique treats, like chocolate covered caramels with sea salt, chocolate AND caramel covered marshmallows, caramel and chocolate covered rice krispy treats, various pretzel sticks coated with chocolate and assorted crunchy extras. Overall, they have a huge selection in both milk and dark options. They also have fun little gifts to peruse. *Caramel is not runny, but it's not super tacky and teeth-pulling outish either...the perfect consistency. It's a little pricey, but considering that it's homemade and it's down the shore in a pretty affluent area, it could be worse...definitely worth a splurge when you're in town. We spend about $8 for maybe 7 items? It was very rich, though, so I am not sure how much more two people would want in a day. Also, I'm not sure how it compares to "chain" expensive chocolate (think Godiva) in terms of price, but if it's more expensive, it can't be much more, and it's worlds fresher and tastier. So if you want to spend $30-$40+ on a box of chocolate anyway, this is totally worth it. read more

This Candyman is awesome! Great chocolate made there fresh daily. Friendly staff, friendly, quick, service with a smile. This guy treats his customers like gold. We ordered a head of time because we had a large order but he could have accommodated us any way. This guy is a magician with chocolate. Highly recommended . Perfect in every way.
