Double Smash Burger and Mac & Cheese
Hunter H.

Great spot for a quick, casual meal. I ordered the double smash burger with a side of Mac and cheese, both were delicious. Service was quick and friendly, and they had paper and crayons available. Would definitely come back with my family.

Has not disappointed yet and only continues to improve. I had an opportunity to speak with some of the members of this family owned business in Groton. I was super impressed to hear about and read about their story. In a family of generations of Army and Navy, a former Army chef is now serving great food to the visitors and residents of the Navy town of Groton, the Submarine Capital. Drawings on the wall and the kid friendly menu make Astin J's very appealing for the whole family. Located in the former Thai Sawasdee restaurant, Astin J's serves up really great food at reasonable prices. For dining in or take out I highly recommend Astin J's! If you want to know more about their story. Taco

We were vacationing here in town and stopped here for lunch. I was blown away by the tacos. Very very yummy. They put their own unique spin on them and they are fantastic.

Burger and wings

I was recently craving a burger and had heard excellent things about Astin J's- it did not disappoint! The waitress who took my order was very friendly and attentive, and my food came out quickly. The burger was VERY good. It is classic smash burger, something that's hard to find around here at a restaurant that isn't a chain. They put their own twist on it- the sauce is delicious. I also had an order of wings, and they were some of the best I've ever had! The inside of the restaurant is nice, the bathroom was clean, and the food and service were great. An excellent spot to grab lunch or dinner- I will definitely be back.

Plenty of available parking the the shopping plaza. Currently able to dine in or take out. They're working on getting a delivery system in place. Kid friendly judgement free zone. They have a balnk wall for kids to put up their pictures and drawings! Locally owned family business. Ordered the birria taco combo platter. Definitely hit the spot and filled me up. The birria tacos were on point. Mouth watering flavor with a kick that doesn't over power all the flavors of the shell and meat. The rice by itself was delicious. Will definitely be coming back to try their other dishes!

Astin J's giant chicken tenders

So, first thing - this is not a fancy place, but it is brilliantly excellent comfort food and seems to be very popular for take out. I've been plotting to go to Aston J's since seeing their Facebook posts about their taco options (birria!). Ask me whether I got the birria taco - big nope. After hearing about their hot wings and getting distracted with the promise of buffalo sauce, I panicked and ordered something entirely else. For this outing, I brought the small with me. He's always excited to try something new and I was sure he was going to order the Mac n cheese. He surprised me with ordering chicken tenders, but we were both happy to find out that their meal sides can be fries, tater tots or Mac n cheese. He ordered a 6 piece and we were extensively warned that they were large. My panic led me to order wings and a chicken taco (my brain in a decision panic makes no sense). Beverages are canned sodas, bottles of juice and water. I had mentioned that it wasn't a particularly fancy place, but staff were super friendly and helpful and the tables were well spaced out. Several people came and went with take out orders and your meal is served in the same take out containers (handy considering next section). The food came out quick and in general, was excellent. The chicken tenders were indeed massive (1/3 of a chicken breast size wise) and were likely the best item we'd gotten. The breading was crispy, not overwhelmingly thick and very flavorful. The hot wings were cooked so well that they're my new local favorite. Small one's mac n cheese was a homemade baked edition and had a good cheesy flavor to it and the salsa on my chicken taco was also excellent (the chicken was just okay, but I'd get it again for the salsa alone). So - great place for casual dining or take out. We're definitely going again and I still probably won't get the birria taco because now I want the chicken tenders for myself.

Don't let the sign fool you, this place is much bigger than it looks on the outside…read more We ordered chips and chunky guacamole - this was delicious. Their fresh chips were cooked perfectly and seasoned just right. Mexican pizza with chorizo and jalapeños - it was good but I couldn't get my brother to try it. His wife didn't care much for it. This was a better choice than the carne asada tacos I ordered for the meal and was substantially more food. Carne asada tacos - I really wished these were better, but the asada was lacking much needed flavor. On top of it being disappointingly bland, it was also extremely dry with the 2 tortillas per taco. My brother had some delicious sauce with his burrito that spruced up the dryness and flavor. I would not recommend this. The margaritas - my bro had the mango margarita - it was very sweet. His wife and I both had a taramind marg and it was pretty good. She also tried the cinnamon marg but it was way too sweet - as I anticipated - and we left it mostly untouched. The cool thing about their margs is that they serve it in individualized shakers to fill up the glass when it gets low.

It wasn't too crowded when we arrived and we were seated fairly quickly. The menus on the table are paper and specials are on the board. My husband and I both decided to try fajitas which were on the Tex-Mex menu. I ordered the steak fajitas and he ordered the chicken fajitas. These were some of the best fajitas I have had in my life! I don't know what they use for marinade, but I would love to have bottles of it in my cupboard! The green sauce they give you with the fajitas is amazing! The black beans are some of the best black beans I have had out anywhere! If I had any complaints it would be that you need just one more tortilla. Three is just one short of enough. I really wish this place was close to home, but it's probably good that it's not. The next time I come I definitely want to try some of the real Mexican dishes on the menu. We were told that we cook was from Mexico City, so we were not surprised that the food was so good. I definitely would recommend trying this place out as soon as you can! Great food here. The drinks looked really good to. We ordered the chips and salsa also. The chips were a little on the thick side but definitely fresh and still hot and the salsa was good too. For dessert we shared some flan. It was a little under done in the center but it was still very good. Can't wait to come back!

Great Dive Bar - Delicious Food…read more Ryans is old dive bar pub with dated decor (which is a good thing) and plenty of food and drink deals. The food at this pub is spot on. I love their kickin chickin. its a great value and you can choose the sauce and trust me, i've tried all of them and they are all fantastic. also, the lobster roles and fried seafood are of the quality you would see at a seafood restaurant but without the high cost. Definitely check this place out if you are in Groton area. Thanks

It's not easy being a woman and being by yourself but Erin the bartender made me feel welcome right away. My battery almost died and she went above and beyond by lending me her personal charger. I was grateful due to the fact that my phone was dying. She handled the bar with ease. Most people seemed to know each other and were very pleasant. I saw a couple pool tables to the side. Keno was playing but I'm not sure what else they offered. TV's were on playing sports and the enthusiast were really enjoying the game. I had already eaten so I can't tell you about the food but from what I saw it looked delicious If I'm ever in the area again I will definitely stop in and hopefully it's Erin's shift.

They don't really have signage, so keep an eye out -- it's next to a Thai restaurant and definitely worth finding. Although we didn't eat, the food coming out of the kitchen looked incredible. The cocktails, however, completely stole the show. Every drink was thoughtfully crafted, and the espresso martini was especially impressive. What really made the experience stand out were the bartenders. Friendly, welcoming, and genuinely engaging -- exactly what you hope for when you're visiting a new town and looking for a place to unwind. Can't wait to come back next time we're in town.

The windows are tinted and covered with curtains so you would t know you really arrived. When we asked why they have no sign the answer was they like it that way and will not have a sign. They share the parking lot with Jasmine Thai. When we walked in I have to say the decor is gorgeous. I love the boutique look to it and beautiful bar with black background. The hallway to bathrooms is beautiful including the bathroom. There were 2 bartenders. One of them came to our table to take our order. Tables are low coffe table styles with velvet pink accent chairs. On the other side by the stage they had some regular wood high tops as well. The ceiling was highly black with low dimmed yellow lights. I have to say, it was very hard to read the menu and had to use my phone flashlight. Other than that it looked nice. The place was feeezing. There were man at the bar with their coats on. I took mine off but had to put it back. It was the one thing I definitely didn't like about this place. If I return it will be in the summer. Now let's talk food. The food looked great and tasted very good. I love their entire menu. It was tough to decide. We tried the spring rolls; tuna tacos and Shrimp Himmapan. For dessert we had the Pistachios ricotta cake. The description given by the waitress was not correct but it was good. I would call this a cake. It was more like a cheesecake type dessert. But flavor wise was great. We will come back with friends once the weather is better. Don't want to risk being so cold like that again.
