I love the experience that I had with Gwen. She put a Brazilian Blowout in my hair. I enjoyed how comfortable she made me feel. Usually when you go to a salon there is someone that will shampoo your hair but Gwen worked on my hair from start to finish. The first time i went here, Aurora did an amazing job on my spiral perm. She took her time, and had confident skill. My hair was to the middle of my back and she gave me a beautiful perm. I know what you are thinking...... A perm on a 17 year old?? It was the best decision about my hair I have ever made. It lasted for 9 months and still looked great. Then when I decided to cut my hair, I had Gwen cut and lowlight my hair. Today was my second time going to her for lowlights and she is fantastic! She takes her time and makes you feel comfortable. Not only does she do the lowlights but she makes sure to style your hair how you want so that you leave the salon looking fabulous! This review is only for the facials at Assured Image. I had never had a facial before, but I received a voucher for a 1-hr session and thought, what the heck! The lobby area was clean and neat, and the staff was very friendly. The first thing they did was hand me a clipboard and asked me to fill out a questionaire with all my contact info (cell, email, address, etc) and questions about my skin. The lady doing the facial greeted me, and right off the bat I noticed she had a few large dark splotches on her face. I don't mean to be unkind, but given the nature of her profession I feel this is a relevant observation! The listed price for an hour-long facial was a whopping $85. My facial lasted only 45 min. I had no idea what to expect and found it sorta offputting to be surprised by very hot and very cold things randomly being applied to my face without warning. The highlight of the session was a very relaxing neck and shoulder massage. The main reason for such a low rating is this: Even though I told her I don't have any skin issues other than the occasional need for a good moisturizer, she pushed a chemical peel on me, saying it was the ONLY way to truly get rid of dry skin. WHAT?? Adding that hers is only $30 versus $120 from a dermatologist was not a comforting sales pitch. When the day comes that I want chemicals coming into contact with my face, I'll shell out the $120 thank you very much! One of my girlfriends also went last week, indicated something about pores on her questionnaire, and was also told she needed a chemical peel to address that. Does anyone else sense a disturbing trend here?? Gratuity was automatically added on at 18%, bringing the full price cost of this service to $100. I'm not sure if this was a typical facial, but basically I left relaxed and with the feeling of a borderline greasy face and not much more. If this is all there is to it, I can't help wondering who actually pays for these?? read more

I first came to this salon when they ran a keratin Groupon Deal in May 2011. I loved my keratin treatment and enjoyed how the salon owner explained ever single step she was going to do and why. Ever since then I have been back to get my long natural hair pressed several times, then my hair relaxed and cut into a bob, and manicure/pedicure and facials. This place is amazing! Reasonable prices, they cater to all races/ethnicities, and my hair and skin finally looks great and healthy. When you get a manicure/pedicure there is no rush. Just you and the manicurist in a room. Its very relaxing. In addition the manicurist is a fabulous esthetician. She never pushed any products on me and encourages you to bring your own products so she can look at and advice you on if it is working for you. This is a great place! read more

Had a great cut from Gwen (the owner) this morning! My hair looks great. Definitely recommend her services to anyone looking for a good stylist. Gwen is very personable and friendly, and I loved my hair cut. She cleaned up my split ends and gave me a flattering cut that helped disguise my post-partum alopecia. Aside from having a great cut, she made recommendations for hair care products without being pushy or trying to up-sell. Amazing salon that can accommodate all hair types. Me and my daughter come here at least once a month. Julissa washes and styles my 16 year old's thick curly hair to perfection in a short amount of time. Mrs. Gwen (owner) colors and straightens my hair precisely each visit. I really enjoyed my visit to this salon. Upon arrival I was greeted with friendly staff. I went in for a mani/pedi. The nail technician Kimberly was the sweetest person. She directed me to a private room where to begin working on my nails. This was my first time experiencing a quiet, relaxing environment while getting my nails done. A jewel in a corner of Meyerland/Westbury/Bellaire. It was Thursday and I had taken matters into my own hands and gave myself a "trim," (YIKES). I was able to get in that morning and Gwen did an amazing job!! I needed something that would look good when done professionally but more importantly a cut that would suit my low maintenance style and that is exactly what I got! The very best part was the price! I went last week for a shellac manicure. The manicurist, May Li (sp?) was wonderful and did a marvelous job. She was very professional, friendly and nurturing. The experience was very enjoyable and relaxing. This experience was entirely different from the nail places I had gone to before. Since it was just the two of us in 1 room, there wasn't the problem of many manicurists speaking among themselves while ignoring the clients. I visited Assured Image today for a wash, cut, and style. They were able to fit me in after I called earlier in the day. Mae cut my hair and styled it, and she did a great job! I came in knowing I badly needed a haircut, and she was able to asses my hair and suggest a cut that would be low maintenance and professional-looking. This was impressive to me as many people have trouble making suggestions for my slightly curlier than wavy, thick but fine hair. She suggested doing a deep moisturizing mask as my hair is a little dry, but didn't push when I said I didn't want to do it this time. Once my hair was washed and cut, she spent a few minutes showing me easy ways I could style it differently that I wouldn't have thought of on my own. Finding a place to get my hair cut has been something I've been dreading since moving to Houston, but I will definitely be coming back here. I was in and out of the shop for a full wash, cut, and style in about an hour and fifteen minutes. I was also impressed with the number of clients coming in with different hair types! It seems like they have someone there who can work with each type, and I think that's pretty awesome. It is a little pricier than I am used to, but it was worth it! read more

I worked with Gwen, who gave me a trim and color, and it turned out perfect! I have to give her extra points because my hair is very long, dry, thick, brittle and tangles up easily. At home I have to use a lot of specialty moisturizers just to keep it decent looking, and it has caused problems with some other stylists who had never worked with dry hair before. Gwen was able to get it completely untangled and moisturized with minimal effort. And she chose the perfect color based on my requests. I asked specifically for something to help lighten my roots without making me look like an unnatural blonde. And the tone she chose was exactly that. İ called on a Tuesday noon and was lucky to get an appointment the same afternoon with Gwen. Since İ am pregnant, İ did not get a hair color but got a cut and style. I had green hair when I came in. I was afraid to do anything else to my hair after all the things that had damaged it. Gwen have me a cut and told me to come back for a discounted color. She made me feel very comforted, so I came back the next day, and I no longer have green hair. Everyone has been complimenting me on both the cut and color. This place is nice. Ms Gwen appears a nice women but is slightly unprofessional by the way she gossips about clients who have just left the door to other clients. The overall atmosphere is nice and the staff caters to all races. I just don't appreciate how she takes advantages of younger clients and makes them wait excessively. I was there recently for a shampoo style and the whole process took 5 hours. Ms. Gwen does a great job if you are willing to wait forever and possibly be talked about. read more

Agreeing with the other reviewer, I also think this place is mediocre when it comes to facials. I was not informed about the required gratuity of 18%, which was somewhat ridiculous. I've gotten facials elsewhere, and there was no such thing as a required gratuity. Wouldn't you gauge your gratuity based on how good you think the service was? The facial was just run of the mill, and customer service was less than friendly. I will not be going here again. read more

I have been trying to find a good stylist to color my hair just the right shade of red and to actually trust me when I say I don't mind if you cut it shorter than I expected. So many stylist are afraid to cut my bobbed hair too short. I showed up yesterday for my appointment with 3 shades on my head. My natural light brown/gray roots, a strange light orange hue from my last coloring, and a faded red that looked very dull. I was lucky to have Gwen take on the challenge of getting my hair back on track. She listened to my color preference more so than anyone since I left my old stylist because she is too far away. Instead of saying "we just can't get your hair that color" like I usually hear, she took it as a challenge and clearly wanted to give me the look I wanted. Gwen had to pull out multiple tricks up her sleeves given that my roots were multi colored and red is a hard color to nail down when it comes to individual preferences. She had a gleam in her eyes as I saw her working out a solution to fix my hair and give me the color I wanted. In the end I got a head of glorious red hair that isn't too coppery and not too magenta. Perfect! And the cut was so well done and beyond my expectations. I walked out of there looking 10 years younger with a lot more confidence. Even after a sweaty day at work today I was getting compliments. She did such a great job I would recommend her to anyone! I finally found a new stylist. As for price, you can't beat this level of stylist knowledge and expertise for the price. Once I was desperate enough to go to some terrible chain. I went in for a mani/pedi and was pleasantly surprised! The lobby was very clean and nice looking in a separate space from the rest of the salon. The nail tech, Kim, was very nice and ushered me back to a private manicure room. It was so nice to have a mani/pedi in private! She turned on a little TV for me, and had some magazines. Excellent polish selection. I ended up getting a brow/lip wax as well which was also great. Highly recommend. Comparable pricing to others in the area. For a mani/pedi/brow/lip it was $55. I visited this salon twice. I was referred to Mrs. Gwen. The first time I went on a Saturday. The receptionist was very nice. Mrs. Gwen did a wonderful job to my hair. I went back maybe three weeks later and was greeted horribly. This time there was another receptionist. She looked horrible! Her hair and those clothes were not appropriate for a receptionist. She didn't greet me and this time Mrs. Gwen wasn't as friendly. She and the receptionist were talking about other people and that really turned me off. Very unprofessional. My hair was done ok. I won't go back. My friend who referred me told me that the staff has a hard time getting along with people and that's why sometimes they act funny. I thought I had found a great place to get service but that's not the case. I hope you read this and make some changes if you want to keep your clients happy! read more
