Having lived near near Zabar's and Fairway I'm a bit spoiled, but the Associated at Union and 5th Ave in Park Slope gets the job done. I've been shopping there for 2 years, and I've only had one experience similar to the first reviewer's, and the manager was appropriately apologetic and gave me a refund on the spot. In my case, the expiration date was 2 months in the future, so it wasn't their fault at all. Indeed it's not a specialty food market, so don't expect to find fancy cheeses, etc.--go up the block to the overpriced Union Market for that--but the produce is decent (not the farmer's market, obviously), the place is very clean, and they often have good specials on things I buy often, like orange juice. read more

I love this place, this is my go to grocery store. The deli manager is such a lovely lady. The deli food is delicious especially the quinoa salad and grilled chicken. Always good service and i always leave happy. read more

The Associated on Fifth Ave has an excellent selection of products, including an assortment of gluten-free and dairy-free items. We lived on Carroll for three years and this was our go-to market, even after the Whole Paycheck opened nearby. We've since moved from Park Slope to Crown Heights and have yet to find a new local market that has the (relative) affordability and selection of this Associated. We miss it, and (no lie) occasionally schedule forays back to the old neighborhood around trips just to pick up a thing or two from this market. read more

This supermarket has the worst customer service that i have ever seen. I tried to order from the deli this morning around 10 am and the deli lady pretended she didn't see me. I said "excuse me" and she completely ignored me. I went to get a manager to assist me but he was to busy chatting on the phone. When i finally went to the register the cashier had a stank face on, she looked miserable with her life. When i paid she just pushed the bag towards me and started talking to the cashier behind her. Everytime i go to this supermarket i walk out unhappy, its overpriced for shitty items. I will no longer come here. I rather walk the extra blocks to keyfood or pathmark. read more

Extremely unfriendly cashiers who can't be bothered to say basic pleasantries like "Hello" and "Thank You". It's ridiculously cold in there. The produce is constantly being soaked by water spraying often soaking you also while reaching for produce. They don't put paper towels or anything to wipe your hands on after they get soaked with water. Selection is better than other shops in the immediate neighborhood. It serves in a pinch when I don't have time to run to Whole Foods or 7th Avenue. read more

I shop at Balady all the time, they carry almost everything that's in the Middle East and more. Very clean and friendly supermarket.

I come in here some times when I need to pick some odds-and-ends. It's convenient for me since it is right across from the gym I go to (Body Reserve). I hit a workout, run into Associated, and then frantically attempt to catch the B63 home. read more

This is a seriously bad review for what seems to be an up and coming fine store. Except that on Wednesday, management unthinking allowed a Uni1st service man to load three or more rolled up FILTHY floor carpets into a shopping cart, to wheel them out across the avenue to the truck that will transport them to the factory for cleaning. Then the service man wheeled the grocery cart back into the market and stored it... O my. I spoke with the market manager today who said this was NOT appropriate and he would not allow it in the future. All well and good, but...for today, I consider all grocery carts in this market suspect. I would shop there using my own carry sack. But use one of those carts, if not THE cart? Nah. read more

I shop here all the time now, since we moved to the neighborhood and it's very close to our new place. Unfortunately, most of the staff is checked out. The cashiers are busy playing with their phones and don't really even bother to acknowledge you. I've literally said, "Hello. How are you today?" and I've been ignored. There are a few exceptions, which is good, but for the most part, the staff seems like they'd rather be anywhere else. On a positive note, they're usually fairly fast at getting you out of there. I think what's more frustrating than the lackluster staff however is that they run out of stock on multiple items I buy regularly and then don't replace them. Chobani full fat regular plain greek yogurt in the small size containers is never available anymore and the Fage plain greek yogurt is almost always sold out as well and that's my second choice! I was also buying the Path of Life Brown Rice/Quinoa and Quinoa/Kale blends regularly, which now haven't been available for at least a month. Same with foods my toddler loves, like the Mum Mum crackers. They'll run out of the standard ones - and then stock a new strange flavor like apple and pumpkin and then that will disappear too and still no return of the regular ones. I also wish they had more organic meat options for toddlers - like the Happy Baby and Sprout brands with beef, chicken, turkey and salmon. I end up having to order those on Amazon. Most recently, they started carrying the new Chobani Meze dips. They are delicious, albeit a bit pricey. I was buying them all the time and now they're gone. Just like that. At one point, I asked if they could purchase Banza pasta. (It's made from chickpeas and is amazingly delicious) and they said they'd look into it. I guess they decided not to? Haven't seen it on shelves. Sometimes they have delicious grape leaves in the deli. Sometimes they have mediocre ones. Sometimes they have none. Recently they had crab cakes. The sign didn't say anything about imitation crab meat. Needless to say, I was sort of horrified when I took a bite. I should've known better since they were cheap, but oh well. This place is so all over the map. I'm really hoping this feedback actually accomplishes something and things change, because like I said, I'm there a LOT. I do the majority of my shopping there. Would be great if I didn't always end up having to trek over to the Associated and Brooklyn markets too to supplement what this place doesn't have. read more

The store is in the process of expanding...slowly restocking and rearranging their shelves. Two complaints: expired food and cat litter box odors. It's not difficult to find expired food in this store, so be watchful. If it's not expired, it may only a few days or months to expiration, and that means the stuff's been sitting on the shelves for a LONG time. I love cats, but I DON'T love to smell cat pee when walking past the rear doorway in the store. They have cats in the store and maybe that's not a good idea. At least eliminate the odor! Overall, they're trying to do things better there and I give them credit for that. read more

This is a good local supermarket. It is never packed (only once have I seen it arguably very crowded - the day before Hurricane Irene was due). It's also very nice inside, with wood floors. I have found they carry most things I need. The rotisserie chickens are decent too when they have them. Note, they do not carry beer. read more

Cute space and employees. I would come here all the time, but their bread selection is pretty bad. Like stale ciabatta rolls and just dense white bread bodega loafs with little to no texture or flavor. I end up going to Union Market a lot more just because of the bread situation (and know several neighbors who say the same) I would love to see some good bread in here Associated!!! :) read more
