This store will fit the bill. If you have a basic need, this Ctown can fulfill that need. But be prepared for cramped aisle ways, high prices, and a more limited selection (fewer choices for brands). You'll find many items without any price tag (and no label on the shelf). The signs can also be tricky- something may be on sale, but the dates shown have since past. I've also seen signs give a specific sale, but then they will have small print saying the price is only valid if you buy ten (or a large number) of that exact item or spend $50 on your shopping trip. Both of those will leave you hanging at the register when you're pulling out your wallet realizing you owe more than expected. So, yes, overall, this place will help out in a pinch or for some basics. Plus the B38 drops off really close by- how can you say no to that?! But, when it comes to doing a full-on shopping trip, elsewhere is probably more wallet friendly. read more

This place has always been the worst grocery store I have ever been to, but on my last visit I counted *four* people walking around and shopping without masks on. Not masks on their chins or under their noses... just zero attempt to even wear a mask by all four. And I was only in the store for less than five minutes while I procured *two* items. I can only imagine how many dozens of people go in there without masks on each day! When I got to the register I asked the person working there if they were no longer enforcing a mask policy in their store. They didn't even say anything to me, they just shrugged and scanned my items. The cashier that rang up two of the anti-maskers didn't say anything to them about it. On my way out, I told one of them they should be wearing a mask, after which they followed me out and shouted some homophobic slurs at me while threatening to spit in my face. So yeah, I wish I could give this place -5 stars but 1 will have to do. They should really be reported to the health department and shut down until they can guarantee the health and safety of their customers. Needless to say, I will never shop here again and I advise anyone to avoid doing so as well. read more

I stumbled into this C-Town by pure coincidence: we went to Umi Nom the other night, and since they don't have a liquor license yet the manager suggested to go to the supermarket down the block to get beer. OMFG... this place is AWESOME! The best beer selection in the neighborhood I have found so far, including Dogfish Head, Hennepin, Ommegang, and Smutty Nose. I don't give it 5 stars because the best beers are not kept cold. The food choice also seems very good: I checked the cereal section, and they keep many different brands (including Kashi, which has been suppressed at the Bravo on Fulton near to my place). C-Town is the best supermarket within a few blocks, but it really isn't all that great. I often see expired products on the shelves, and the produce is spotty at best. It is convenient for a beer run or to grab some last minute items for a meal, but my experience with this C-Town has never been satisfactory. The store is improving, but at slow pace. In my experience, other C-Towns in Brooklyn are managed much better than this one. It's not the worst, but it isn't the best. read more

I have mixed feelings about CTown. While they are awesome because they are super close to home and always sell me a roll of quarters, they are totally shady for not only selling expired dairy product but also smudging off expiration dates. I probably won't be buying anything frozen there again, as many an ice cream has clearly melted and been refrozen. This is by far the cleanest grocery store in the neighborhood. Extra points for staying open til ten even on holidays (well, at least on the 4th) and carrying some organic food, as well as really nice management and cashiers. They freaking smile at you. Drawbacks are it's a little small, and because of that they also don't have everything you're looking for. They're also not quite as inexpensive as the Associated on Myrtle. Who cares though? Last time I was there I was short a couple of bucks and they told me to pay them back the next day. That's what I'm talking about! read more

This C-town has improved during the last year. It is now cleaner, slightly more organized and expanded their fresh produce isle to a whole (it used to be only half isle, the other half was storing cold beer. Ah yes, I'm sure that wheat product can be counted as veggie.... ). And yeah, they have a good beer selection! I love my frambois Lambic there.. yumm.... The supermarket is not the best but it's got the staple goods decently priced, easy place to shop for something that you have run out of. Convenient because they are open early and closes at 10pm, unlike the Associate that mostly closes at 8pm. Btw, keep an open eye when buying veggies (ie: tomatoes) here. Sometimes the sale items are very crappy and will spoil within a day or two. Other times they are just fine. read more

I'm coming ft Chicago where I'm used to normal grocery stores (bigger than a convenience store) ...this is the closest one I've found in walking distance to me...the customer service is just ok...not friendly at all but I guess not rude. They have a semi decent selection of basic foods...it is very very cramped in the store. Main issue I am short and everything is stacked so high I have to climb the shelves to get anything. Also watch for expiration dates...a lot of items are close to expiring or actually expired. One pet peeve from this evenings shopping trip there was a woman behind me with 5 items and I put all my stuff on the belt and the cashier took her first while I waited 5 minutes hanging out at the end of the register...WTF!? Why have a stinking line then-just call it a free for all. read more

I love that this place is so close. The ice cream has freezer burn, the groceries are semi fresh, and the store has standard grocery fare. I love the $5 sandwiches made to order. They only use Boar Heads meat, fresh cheese and the roll or hoagie of your choice. -1 stars for the people outside always try to flirt with you and say obscene things. The prices are decent. Probably cheaper than in Manhattan. I did get Cheez-It's for $4, which was fabulous. Dairy is pretty expensive, as it is everywhere here. They've got a diverse crowd composed mostly of locals. It's not annoyingly gentrified. Who knows how long it'll last before the block is demolished for a Trader Joe's. read more

I go here when I want to buy expired products or buy things at Manhattan gourmet prices within the Bed-Stuy/Clinton Hill area. Great selection of wrinkly cherry tomatoes. This place tends to have everything I need, but I dread coming here. I usually come after work, when a lot of people go grocery shopping for dinner stuff or whatever, so it's a busy time. Somehow, the staff at this store think that the busiest time of day for the store, with the most foot traffic inside, is the appropriate time to re-stock and have boxes in the aisles while staff are unloading them onto the shelves. Not the best scheduling, guys. The staff are usually nice, however, and it's not about their service, just a very crowded place during rush hour and the re-stocking during that time is really annoying. read more

I just moved to this neighborhood and this is the first grocery store I've visited. Nice selection of bread, produce and cheeses. Everything was clean and very fresh. Some items seem a little pricey, but overall, a very good experience. I will be back. read more

Okay so the service wasn't bad here. The only thing that I am mad about is that I bought chicken from here and when I went home to cook it like usual, the meat was really hard as if it was still raw but it was cooked thoroughly. I will never buy poultry from this place again! read more

This is a poorly managed, unprofessional dirty supermarket that manages to survive, based on its location. It's situated across the street from LG projects, which makes up half of its clientele. The other half is split between nervous looking Pratt students and wealthy Clinton hill residents, who dart in & out while trying not to make any eye contact with the goons, who line the sidewalk outside. The cashiers are all young girls who seem to never have had any kind of customer service training. I noticed that their constantly being flirted with and hit on by their male coworkers, which may explain why they try not to make any eye contact or conversation, with their customers. I've even seen the owners sons(or maybe they're nephews. Either way they look just like him) hovering over the cashiers, being awkward and flirtatious, with the cashiers. The product selection ranges from cheap generic krasdale items to upscale yogurts, cheeses & beers. This store really fails in the produce department. Most of the fruit and vegetables look sad & spoiled, sitting on the shelves. The aisles are tiny and narrow and make me feel like I'm trapped in a pacman game. It only makes sense to shop here if you're on welfare or you're rich. There is no in between here. Go around the block to the key food on Lafayette & Grand, for better prices and selections. read more

The most Ghetto store ever. I will never shop here again. The selection is poor and the customer service is iffy at best. They even have restrictions on how you use coupons and in this economy where every penny counts, it's insulting. I feel sometimes that because it is Latino owned the staff and owners are only nice to their own and rude to everyone else. One word to describe the C Town on Taaffe place great!!!!.. You will never find a better staff than at this place. They all are very nice and helpful. The managers are down to earth, they always greet you with a smile and make you feel comfortable. The produce is always fresh for the most part. They have big line of organic products at very reasonable prices. The dairy and meat are also very fresh. I did however return a gallon of milk that was out dated by a day.
