I went to Brown Dermatology after a different local dermatologist told me what I had been observing…read morefor a year (at that time) was 'nothing' and sent me on my way. I had waited a year to see that other doctor. As the condition persisted, I took a chance with Brown Dermatology and met with one of their nurse practitioners. My first appointment, which was several months out, was cancelled due to the provider being ill. It was rescheduled for later in the week. For that appointment I had been out for other appointments and was fifteen minutes away for an appointment in ten minutes. When I called them to say I would be late by five minutes they told me if I wasn't there in ten minutes I would be marked as a missed appointment and not seen. Odd, but OK, if that's policy, I just made another appointment. Well, that one was also cancelled because the provider was sick. OMG. A new appointment was booked for later that week and finally, on my fourth try, everything went smoothly. Life happens. Luckily I'm flexible. I was very worried about my appointment because of the previous doctor I had seen. At this point it's been over two years that I have been observing a scaly patch on my nose as well as some other 'new' to me points. The nurse practitioner was very patient listening to my observations and asked questions. She diagnosed two different things going on. The scaly patch is a pre-cancerous condition that she was able to freeze off at that visit so it's no longer a concern. Yay. For the other thing she prescribed a skin cream and gave me samples of face wash and sun screen. After just three days of treatment my skin is already looking more like my normal skin and I really like these samples she gave me. There is a sign at reception saying they are using new software so there may be some delays. They also use an online patient portal (as most doctors do these days) where you can send message and get test results. Their office is on the top floor of the building. The parking lot is large with several handicapped spots by the door. Doors are either automatic or have the wheelchair open mechanism. An elevator is across from the entrance.

I want to update my review of my experience with Brown Dermatology now that I have answers…read more I was seen (and gaslit) at the Warwick, Providence and South Kingstown location while trying to address a butterfly rash that developed any time I go outside and my right arm turning blue. My butterfly rash was brushed off by multiple specialists as a sun allergy despite having a known autoimmune condition and histamine intolerance. They gave me allergy meds and sent me on my way. As for my blue arm, they initially did a biopsy in Warwick that showed that it couldn't possibly be tattoo ink cause it went deeper than a tattoo would go. Despite this and even being sent to rounds at the Providence location over the course of countless visits, they told me to "cover it up with a tattoo" if it bothers me. That's when they brought up how much it'll cost. When I stood up for myself, they sent me on my way. Instead of referring me to a different specialist for investigation or admitting they don't know what's wrong, they brushed me off. I'm so glad I didn't listen to them and continued to advocate for myself! About a month ago, a different doctor who listened to me discovered that my arm is blue due to a condition called Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS)!!! It took this new doctor one visit and one test vs 2 years! Unfortunately, thanks to Brown Dermatology, my ability to get treatment and answers was drastically delayed... The kicker is that I asked the doctors at Brown Dermatology and they insisted that it's tattoo ink despite their own labs showing otherwise... TOS is something that needs treatment due to the risk of clots and can't just be "covered up with a tattoo" like the doctors at Brown Dermatology suggested... After this experience, I cannot in good conscience recommend Brown Dermatology.

I was referred to this practice by my GP who had a particular physician in mind but knew they would…read morehave a full schedule and to not expect an appointment with that physician. The first open appointment was with a PA which I was given. The office is accessed from the back of the building on the lower level. There is plenty of parking in this area. Once in the back door, the office is straight ahead. The staff all seem very busy. The were pleasant enough but also not chatty. Slide open the window, take my information, told to wait. Window closes. Pretty standard. I was the only one in the waiting area so I wandered around a looked at some of the information they had available on skin care treatments offered. Almost spa-like services. The reception/waiting area is very bare bones with no windows and hard seats. It took several minutes to be called back where I was placed in an exam room. The tech who brought me to the exam room verified why I was being seen. I expressed my concerns. She seemed very pleasant and left. I waited in that room quite a while. I could hear someone coming and going in the hall so one provider must have been going from room to room. When it was my turn the PA arrived with the tech. He greeted me, verified why I was there and then began speaking to the tech like I wasn't in the room. He sat on a stool, took out a magnifying glass and started looking over my face. Not at something I was there for, just all over my face. While doing this he is rattling off technical words to the tech who was writing everything down as he said it. Apparently he believes I have rosacea. For which he did not offer to treat me. Weird. If you catch that early it's treatable. He wasn't even sure at first it is rosacea and after dictating to the tech for a while changed his diagnosis to 'just make down rosacea' but then no treatment plan was offered. Once done with that he stood up asked what skin care I used and offered a cream for a secondary issue I was there for. My primary issue is a concern for skin cancer. He completely ignored that. I pointed it out. He ignored it again. I pointed it out again. He side stepped. I insisted he address it and he described how 'sometimes' a condition will occur and then described to me a pre-cancerous condition that is exactly what I had described to him at the beginning. He didn't tell me he didn't think it was an issue or he thinks it's something else or address the spot on my face in any way at all. He just kept avoiding the discussion until I forced the issue. I felt so uncomfortable with the experience after a few days I called the office and spoke to someone about my concerns. They assured me the treatment was the usual method and they would speak to the PA and get back to me. They never called me back, but the PA called and left me a voice message saying if I didn't understand the treatment to call him back. I do understand the treatment. I just want to know what is being done to improve this practitioners ability to treat patients. To respect their concerns. To communicate better. He treated me like a bug under a microscope then tried to walk out of the room as soon as his examination was complete. He was literally backing toward the door as he tried to end the appointment before I had gotten answers. I never received a call back from the person I spoke with and at this point I have lost all confidence in this group. On top of that, my insurance denied the claim. Great.

He was quietly professional, and appeared to provide a thorough examination. He biopsied one area, which was later confirmed as a squamous cell. I am also regularly seen at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. My Nurse Practitioner there saw me only 60 days after my examination by Dr. Kimmis. She biopsied 3 additional and separate areas, all of which were confirmed as skin cancer - - 1 basal cell and 2 more squamous cell. Upon calling Dr. Kimmis to report this development and express my surprise and disappointment that he had not identified these additional cancers, his sole response was: "Thanks for telling me."

5++++++ (make it 6)…read more Dr. Frankel is amazing! Her clinical expertise and patient care is simply unmatched. Don't expect to have years of the same ongoing skin issues. Dr. Frankel, Maria and the rest of her staff know their skin& leading medical science! The practice is super professional and compassionate. Since meeting Dr. Frankel I simply admire how she incorporates a holistic approach to modern skin medicine; which in today's busy lifestyles often is overlooked by patients (but not by an outstanding practitioner) . I've been to other practices and thought it was the standard to always feel dissatisfied with the level of care, ineffective treatments with medicines that had harmful side effects and not to mention tolerating the poor demeanor of those clinicians. I'm glad I kept searching and found Dr. Frankel! From day one, they educated me in depth on sunscreen, nutrition, lifestyle and environmental triggers that harm the skin which makes for all-inclusive treatment that works. May seem like common sense but it is always part of their discussion and now I see why. They don't just treat an issue, they have a holistic (whole body) approach because external factors can be causing your issues. Bottom line: The office does not leave the details out when treating patients which is why they are effective and patients see healthier results. If you want to be educated, informed and transformed.....this office is the only place in NE for you. And No... its not by magic but Dr. Frankel sure makes it feel that way! She's a 10 hands down- caring, respectful and so considerate! *note: may take a few months to get an appt, book now. Well worth the wait! I usually am only inclined to write reviews for an either outstanding service or an epic fail. This my fellow Yelpers is one of those outstanding Businesses. Dr. Frankel knows her s*~t!
