A lot of people brought chairs but we found seats along the wall on the side of the main stage. There were different food and drink vendors and other stalls, portalettes, and some covered seating as well. We had a good time. We generally only come to this part of the area for the movie theater, so it was cool to see it with such a community event focus!

If you're up for walking, there's a neighborhood with some free parking a few blocks away... just watch the signs for the times. On the square itself, it changes based on the time of year. Sometimes it's an ice rink, sometimes it's a dance class, sometimes it's a bunch of popup vendors, sometimes it's live music... it's quite a blast with all the yummy restaurants surrounding it, that's for sure! When looking at all the shopping and dining options overall, it's quite a diverse selection that yo can pick from, and I'd say there's something for almost everyone. There's a couple cuisines I could pick out that are missing, but otherwise it's definitely a plaza worth visiting if you're in the area. Some of the newer additions include Big Papi's Tacos, Dolan Uyghur, and Dirty Dough.

Plaza del Mercado - Aldi loves their violent employees. Still works there.

June 24 I went to this Aldi to get a couple of quick items, 5 to be exact. Solomon, a cashier,…read morebegan checking my items. When I tried to leave with the cart, he jerked it away and said "walk your things out". I said I need the cart and tried to leave. He jerked it away again and yelled "walk it out. I turned to leave, but decided to speak with the manager instead. I asked for the manager from another cashier. She paged for me. The assistant manager came out, I began to recount to her what happened. She asked which one? I pointed at Solomon. Immediately he got up, ran over to us and began threatening me and doing his "stare". He then tried to get customers involved in his assault by asking them to come over and be involved. The manager witnessed the assault. It's on security video. I'm a senior citizen. Obviously I feared injury by Solomon and was corned. I guess Aldi's policy is to allow employees to assault their customers while starting a complaint. What company does that? The manager asked Solomon to go back to cashiering and nothing else. I contacted Aldi's via their online service. Twice. No response. The 3rd time worked. Although I've made my complaint, they've seen the video and I've followed up 4 times, not a single response ever from them other than they are investigating. This was a hate crime from Solomon and underwritten by Aldi management. I can only say if you are the wrong race and are an older person, stay away from this racist and violence ridden store. Here's a copy of another yelp review of Solomon doing the same thing to another patron in the photo below

Once 3:30pm arrives, so does the frustration of striving to find a parking space. There's regular business throughout the plaza, but the gym members are the ones taking up 85% of the parking. If any wants to venture into this place in the late afternoon onward. I suggest to get the open spaces near the entrance, to avoid the teeth grinding from dealing with these horrible drivers that are all trying to get in where they can fit in.

I've only seen the area from the highways that are tree lined. I am quite amazed by how out of touch I was for this area. This mall is quite expansive. The one thing I love about the DMV area is that the malls are still thriving. Not to the point where every single store is filled, but no where near dead mall territory. I had some time to kill before I had to head back home and wanting to pick up some items. Parking here had me. I wasn't sure where would be the best place to park. I ended up in the outdoor lots and didn't even want to mess with the parking structure. As a note, early here means you will encounter a slew of parents with their children in tow. Be careful and mindful in the parking lot as they will be everywhere. The mall had a bit of everything in here. The typical anchors and national chains you would expect to find in a mall. Food court area was jammed with eateries and customers. I opted to not eat here. Would definitely come back. Especially on a lazy day. Good people watching, enough stores to grab whatever you might be thinking of getting, and ample parking.

I can't believe I haven't written a review for this mall after so many years! The food court is always packed with people with many different choices. The restaurants available inside the mall is always interesting. I saw a new Thai takeaway place downstairs near where Claire's used to be. The selections of the store keeps evolving. I had no idea Lululemon moved and has a bigger store now. It's hard to believe that the malls in America are dying when you see how crazy busy it is at the Mall. I couldn't find parking until I parked closer to the old Sears lot. And that was during a weekday well after Christmas and New Year's too. My nickname at work used to be the Mall Rat Haha! I can't wait to discover what new stores are coming and going the next time I return.
