Aspen Dental in Mentor - A Truly Exceptional Experience When I found out I needed dentures or implants, I started visiting multiple dental offices for consultations. Aspen Dental in Mentor was actually my fifth scheduled consult. At that point, I was feeling discouraged--every place I'd been to had issues with pricing, professionalism, or staff attitude. So honestly, I didn't have high hopes going into my first appointment. But the moment I walked through the door at Aspen, everything felt different. The front desk staff all smiled, welcomed me in, and acknowledged me right away. That small gesture immediately gave me hope that this might be the right place. I was called back promptly, and every person I encountered greeted me with kindness and professionalism. After getting X-rays and meeting with the doctors to discuss multiple treatment plans, I was taken to meet with the office manager, Sarah, to go over pricing. Let me just say--Sarah is amazing. She's personable, knowledgeable, flexible, and incredibly patient. Unlike other offices where I felt rushed or pressured, Sarah took her time with me. She walked through every option I asked about, gave me multiple quotes without hesitation, and never once made me feel like a burden or like I had to decide on the spot. Once my fiancée and I chose the plan that worked best for us, everything else went smoothly--from scheduling pre-op appointments and the surgery itself, to handling payments. Fast forward to yesterday--surgery day. I was definitely nervous, but also excited. I've always had a strong fear of dental visits, but the moment I arrived, the entire team helped me feel at ease. The doctors, surgeons, nurses, assistants, and office staff were all absolutely amazing. The surgery went great. Everyone was so attentive and kind during my recovery, and they provided me with thorough aftercare instructions and plenty of supplies for my recovery at home. HORRIBLE - scheduled cleaning for my daughter & they didn't have time to do it, wanted a second appointment. They only do xrays on the first visit & want to bill your insurance twice. Dentist is rude. Also false advertising. They do not use anything to help anxious patients. Root canal, just Novocaine. Their oral surgeon sedates but does not do crowns, or root canals. Son needs 4 crowns due to a genetic condition. He said he would be done with 4 crowns in 2 hours! He said one sentence to me and I heard his tone and was ready to walk out. read more

Awful....I NEVER leave reviews. I'm not the type of person to do that. I always give places the benefit of the doubt. But this place was absolutely terrible. Online I scheduled a cleaning. I was 15 minutes early to my appointment and didn't get seen until 50 min after my appointment time. They didn't even do my cleaning. They tried to sell me on braces and getting my wisdom teeth out. The manager of the place gave me a sheet breaking down my price for wisdom teeth and braces neither of which I came into the dentist for. And said I can just call back when I'm ready for my cleaning (the thing I came in for in the first place). Decided to go to Eastlake Dental Art. AMAZING. Super friendly, did my cleaning, broke down my prices accordingly, and referred me to an awesome wisdom teeth surgeon. The staff at Aspen were awful, the only friendly person there was the lady who took my X-rays. They rushed through everything, the actual dentist made It seem like I was an inconvenience to be there for him. Aspen Dental is what I would call a "chop shop"... no pun intended. My wife and I went there after receiving an advertisement for free x-rays and examination. By the time we were finished, we were presented with proposals totally nearly $9000 between the two of us. The recommendations for me were presented as necessary. We went to a family dentistry after the fact and paid for x-rays and examinations. The result, nothing recommended. In fact, we were told not only do we not need the procedures Aspen Dental recommended, we absolutely should not get them as they would create problems. I recommend you find another dentistry that is reputable. read more

My experience at the Mentor office was terrible!!! I went in for a routine exam and cleaning and they refused to clean my teeth after I sat there for over an hour and they prodded my teeth multiple times aggressively. The dentist said my teeth were fine but the receptionist threw a $450 estimate at me and said I had to come back because they had no time even though I had made an appointment. Not to mention she was carrying her sick baby all over the office exposing everyone to germs. I was completely shocked and disappointed in the service and the way I was treated. This was classic corporate medicine where they lure you in with free services then try and get you to approve unnecessary and expensive treatments. Never ever go here it was a huge waste of my precious time!!! Now I have to go to another dentist just so I can get a routine cleaning it's insane! read more

Run don't walk away from this place. A year ago I started the process to receive my uppers and a partial. They may have told me that the partial I would have to pay for when I got it which was almost a year later but I don't remember and they did not remind me, come on, it was almost a year later when I went in to get them. When I did come in to pick them up, they had me sign a piece of paper stating I received them and when I was leaving they had me sign the electronic pad but did not show me the screen showing that I was allowing them to charge the cost to the credit company they deal with so needless to say I was shocked when I received a bill a month later. As for my uppers, when I went in to pick up my uppers, I kept telling the doctor about an overbight in the dentures, he kept taking them to the tech but they never got fixed. He started to push me getting them and said that could be fixed later. No they could not. I contacted the Disctric Manager, he was going to look into all this, he said he was going to call me back on Monday, that was over a week ago, actually it took 2 weeks and only after I posted a negative review. I'm going to have my dentures looked at but nothing about the money's for my partial. The People here are so busy that they rush you in and out. I went ten years without teeth because last dentist gave me ill fitting dentures, and said there was nothing more they could do for me. I lost all hope. Then, I went to Aspen Dental. I went in to get a filling done and a tooth extracted this week. Dr. Villaire is extremely rude an unprofessional. He made me feel as if my being there was an inconvenience. I was 10 minutes early for my appointment, however, he had not even arrived to the office by 8:00 (my scheduled appointment time). Then when there was difficulty getting my tooth numbed, he said "well we're just going to have to do this at a later date, I'm already behind schedule." He acted as if it was MY fault things were behind schedule. I was upset, confused, and visibly shaking. He then immediately made me open my mouth and started pulling my tooth. He rushed through the entire process and jerked my head around forcefully. He was not gentle with the extraction at any point. I was on the verge of tears the whole time he was pulling my tooth. He then rushed away without giving me any prescriptions. I had to ask the woman who was assisting him to see if he was intending on prescribing anything. She then had to track him down to find out. Then when she came back, she tried to make excuses for him being rude and unprofessional. So clearly, the staff KNOWS his behavior is unacceptable, but he has been allowed to continue this behavior regardless of that. Also I was charged for the tooth extraction and a filling. I did not get the filling done though because the doctor apparently didn't have time to do things right. I will NEVER, and I mean NEVER step foot into that office ever again. I have never had a more traumatic experience at any dentist office in my entire life. THIS is why people have such a fear of the dentist. Terrible experience. Opened a line of credit and they charged my account without telling me before I even had any work done. The gentleman I opened credit with told me to sign one last paper and I asked what it was for he told me just one more paper to sign and I signed it ! When I called to inquire the office staff was very defensive and aggressive. They did not help me through this not one bit. I had signed the paper and they had me in a corner. They were to call me back but am still waiting to here. Will never go back and have informed my friends and family to never go here! ( have a friend who was just quoted 15000 in dental work yes 15000 not 1500 referred him to get a second opinion here called him last night to say nevermind) STAY AWAY AND WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT FINANCE THEY DO NOT KNOW CUSTOMER SERVICE AND DO NOT KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT HE FINANCING THAT THEY OFFER. I wish I could rate this place lower. The staff were awful and would not allow me to pay for my services in cash. Who doesn't accept cash? Also, they forced me to have x-rays completed even though I informed them I had x-rays completed in the calendar year and my insurance would not cover the service. I was assured repeatedly that the service would be covered AND I WOULD OWE NOTHING... and don't you know was sent a bill a few weeks later. When I called to inform them of this I was met with apathy and had to continually request the bill be forgiven on their end. They eventually begrudgeingly removed the bill from my account. When I asked for in writing documentation that I no longer owed for the original bill, I was told: "we don't do that." Lastly, the hygentist I saw was completely awful. She did not introduce herself or offer any pleasantries and then lectured me throughout the proceedure on the fact that my gums were bleeding. She insisted that this was due to a lack of flossing, and when I expressed that I do floss daily and never had this experience with another hygenist she did not believe me. I blocked Aspen Dental's phone number so they cannot contact me to remind me to schedule future cleanings. The WORST dental experience I have ever had! Let me start by saying that I have been going to this Aspen Dental since 2007 and this past September 2015 with be the last. I must address the receptionist Lanett first. I dread calling in and talking to her. She is rude and puts you on hold numerous times while trying to simply make an appointment. Its as if any of your needs or questions are an inconvenience to her. Extremely unpleasant. I came in for a cleaning and x-rays . After an exam by Dr. Journay I was informed that I had two small cavities. So I discussed the price of how much it would cost for the fillings with my insurance paying and I was told I would owe $25. Feeling confident, I made the appointment to get the two fillings taken care of. Upon checking in to get the two fillings taken care of, I was told the cost would be $75. When I asked about the price difference I was told it was for my deductible (understandable) but it still would of been nice to know how much I was going to be paying during that visit. I sat in the chair and Dr. Villaire (no "hello" or "how are you" very cold) came in to do my fillings. He looked at my x-rays and apparently found a third cavity under an existing fillings. I asked him why Dr. Journay had not seen that on the x-ray during the previous visit and was told "he was filling in for me". Then he went on to inform me that if the cavity was deep enough it could possible turn into a root canal. With this new information I became very skeptical on if the work they said I needed ACTUALLY needed to be done. The Dr. proceeded to take care of the two original fillings. Before he started he placed a pair of glasses on my face to protect my eyes which kept falling off so I adjusted them a few time when he wasn't working on my teeth so they would not be in his way (this is relevant information for later on in this review). I had to make another appointment to have the third filling addressed. After he was done he quickly got up and left the building (no "good bye", "thank you", or "have a good day") When I came in for the third filling was the kicker. I had asked Lanett for a print out of the history off all the work I had done at their office and was told she would give it to me after my visit (understandably because I wanted the work from that same day to be on the print out she gave me). Again I was not greeted by Dr. Villaire and when I asked him what we were going to do about the cavity, he very nonchalantly told me that it could be a root canal. At this point I'm crying (sounds juvenile but I had never had one before and I was very uneasy). Seeing that I was obviously upset the Dr. left the room to let my Novocain set in with out a shred of empathy. While I was sitting in the chair waiting for him to return I listened to him interact with about 2-3 other patients. I felt was if he was doing everything as quickly as possible. No care or concern for anyone. When he returned he placed the protective glasses on my eyes again. They again fell off my face so I adjusted them. He says "oh, I remember" then pulls them off my face and very rudely says to me "close your eyes. just close your eyes" Obviously upset he does the filling and again not a shred of empathy, does not say "good bye" or "thank you" when he finished. I went back to the front desk to get the print out of the history and was assisted by Anissa and was only given about half of what I had asked for. Needless to say I left the office crying. I felt as if I was treated like an animal without a care for my discomfort and obvious distress. I felt as if the Dr. did everything as fast as he could proving to me that they don't care about your dental needs. Zero bedside manner. Every since that visit, I've had sensitivity, pain, and trouble biting down on that side of my mouth. I was very disappointed and to be honest, shocked that I had such a bad experience. Every time I had gone there before I had a wonderful experience (except when dealing with the receptionist Lanett who has ALWAYS been awful). Before this particular set of visits I had my wisdom teeth taken out there. It went perfect. The nurses, surgeon, and the financial gentleman were wonderful, so great that I even told my boyfriend to go there for his dental needs, which also turned into a terrible mess. I have contacted their corporate office and the woman I talked to initially was very nice. During our call we some how got disconnected and I was told she would call me back but she never did. I am still receiving bills in the mail and I've tried contacting this branch about the bills and I cannot get any one to call me back. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this or any other Aspen Dentals for further dental needs. read more

My daughter went there in need of a crown and we asked them up front how long it would take as our insurance was expiring. We gave them the expiration date and they said they could take care of it within that time frame and not to worry. Needless to say, they were not completing the service within a timely manner. I contacted the office manager on numerous occasions to discuss this issue. She told me not to worry about it. We paid up front and in full and would not be billed anything further. As they kept putting us off, I called several more times concerned about the time frame and the cost. She yelled at me telling me she told me before we were paid in full and would not owe anything further. Of course, 3 months later, the job is done and we receive a bill for an additional $1000.00. I contact the office and do not receive a return phone call. I called at least 12 times and never once received a return call. I then called their corporate office numerous times. I was finally contacted by someone, a customer care specialist, who indicated that the office and regional manager where not returning my calls because they had no intention of doing anything for me and therefore, felt there was no reason to call me back. After my persistence, the regional manager finally called back and advised me that they are not responsible for what the office manager tells the patients. To top it off, my daughter's crown is not put in correctly. It is causing her much pain and has had to go to another dentist to fit it correctly. This is the worst experience I have ever had with any business. There lying and lack of concern is disgusting. Not to mention being yelled at. I don't know how they can get away with this kind of conduct. read more
