When Dr. Roger Hess entered the room, instead of focusing on the appointment, he began offering explanations for his late arrival. I made it clear that the excuses were not my concern and that I wanted to move forward with the appointment professionally. What immediately stood out to me was that while I was addressing the situation, he was smiling and laughing, which came across as dismissive and unprofessional given the circumstances. Shortly after that, it became obvious he had not reviewed my referral and did not even know why I was there. At one point, he commented that he would need to read through the 10-page VA referral during the appointment itself, which confirmed he was completely unprepared. As both a veteran and a counselor, I understand healthcare offices can run behind at times. However, being over an hour late, unprepared, and unfamiliar with the reason for the visit is not acceptable--especially after a patient drives a significant distance for care. Overall, this was one of the most frustrating and unproductive medical appointments I have experienced.

I switched to this practice due to a change in my insurance coverage, having recently had a dental exam and X-rays just six months prior. These images were provided to UHD. At my initial visit, before even receiving an exam, I was told I would need 18 bitewing X-rays to create a full-mouth panorama. As a medical physician, I questioned the necessity of this, especially given that recent X-rays were already available. When I asked whether I could opt for the standard molar bitewings instead, the hygienist became visibly frustrated. It seemed clear he was accustomed to patients questioning this practice and annoyed by it. An associate dentist then came in to explain that the full set of X-rays was necessary so she could assess my bone structure and check for oral cancer. I explained that I am a physician and that this is not the standard method for oral cancer screening. She then claimed that this was the "standard of care." When I asked her to show me the ADA guidelines to support this, she brought back a chart that applied to patients with periodontal disease or dentofacial abnormalities--neither of which apply to me. After reviewing the actual ADA guidelines myself (see screenshot from this article: https://jada.ada.org/article/S0002-8177(23)00734-1/fulltext), it's clear that requiring 18 X-rays in this context is not evidence-based. I shared this with her, and she then suggested we "dissolve the relationship" and that I seek dental care elsewhere. If you are looking for evidence-based care, compassionate professionals, and a practice that respects patient autonomy while avoiding unnecessary costs, I strongly recommend seeking care elsewhere.

The service was sloppy and unprofessional, and the staff lacked any empathy. Offering a free whitening kit in place of a genuine apology for causing injury was insulting.

I called my dentist and they got me in right away the following morning. The dentist tells me: Yes we did that crown almost two years ago. She took an X-ray and decided that it was "too far gone" to repair and recommended extraction and an dental implant. I was totally confused, all my teeth and gums are perfect, I brush twice a day, how am I at the crossroads of extracting a tooth that was repaired and perfect less than two years ago? After this shocking news, the dentist gave me a referral to an oral surgeon. I called on my way out of the office, and they quoted me a price over the phone...$5000. I passed out in my mind. Speechless. *(This is the part where I tell you I don't have dental insurance. You might be surprised by that, or not. It's also worth mentioning that I am an adjunct college professor, where I have taught for half of a decade. ) I drive home and begin to ask around, did a google search and made an appointment with a dentist a bit closer to my neighborhood. She was fantastic, however, same thing...it can't be done, pull it and implant. Again, I left numb, not literally, but mentally and spiritually. "How would I finance this?...There has to be another way, another option." So I'm at gym and a friend recommend Dr. Mirko Vomberger. He literally was two blocks away from the gym. I called, and they got me in within the week as a new patient. On our first meeting I brought him the crown, told him my story and gave him my dental file of X-rays. He looked at the possibility of my tooth and said that he was surprised as to why the first dentist didn't just clean it up and cement it back on. There was no decay or infection in the tooth, my gums were healthy, and there was plenty of build up to work with. And so, after all that nonsense, he just cleaned up the tooth and cemented it back on, and it was over. I had my tooth again! And I could actually afford the few hundred dollars to get it back. As I got up from the chair I shook his hand and asked him if he would be my new dentist. He said "of course." And so third times a charm and I'm thankful for the practical professionalism of doctor Mirko Vombergar, and would recommend him to anyone.

They just called to cancel them again and tried to rebook into 2024 because they cannot find a dental hygienist and could not understand why this is an issue. Marne works the front desk and is so sweet always helpful. The office is set up for text reminders which is great and you can reply, even better! About today's appointment, I was eager to get a crown on a tooth that was darkening and chipping, I had a root canal years prior and never crowned it, it was showing! So it was finally part one of the crown process. It is a long appointment, but they kept it super entertaining. And Bob Ross was on the TV!! Also its freezing in there, they got me a blanket!!!! I was actually starting to relax about this process. The time the doctor spent making sure my TEMPORARY Crown was perfectly blended was just seriously top notch, I don't think I'd ever imagined a doctor spending the time to do that for a crown I will have less than 3 weeks! She is so meticulous in the best way! I cannot say I love the picture I have attached, but I love that my previously dead tooth now blends in so well that it looks more real than a real (yet crooked) tooth does! I was already feeling so lucky, happy to pay whatever was due, and I paid the reasonable amount and asked what part 2 would cost in a few weeks.
