I have to agree with all the negative reviews. Every time I go get checked in , there's a problem with my insurance. I always have a balance that i know i have paid for it previously on my last visit. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Then I get taken to this small room so they can explain to me how it happened with an attitude.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] So finally after fixing that issue ( I was right) I still decide to get seen just because I really wanted a cleaning because it has been about 6 months. But overall reading all these comments, when i first started coming there i was told I have periodontal disease? I believed him because I came from the same company Aspen dental in Kenosha to Gurnee to get a second opinion and was told the same thing. They're the same franchise so they all function the same. I should have gone completely somewhere else, no more Aspen. I still don't believe I have it. At the time, I ended up getting a deep cleaning and every 3 month check ups paying out if pockets hundreds of dollars every time ($250) one time ($450) another time and it keeps going. Till finally I couldn't afford it anymore and told the dentist I would come every 6 months. I felt for it because he convinced me that my teeth were going to fall off by the age of 50. I feel very dumb now. Even though I kept getting told my teeth looked great by the dentist after each cleaning. And I always kept receiving bill statements in the mail knowing I already paid when i showed up for the visit. Somehow, i still owed according to them and still had to pay more before they could see me next time. Lesson learned, I will definitely not be going back after today. read more

From October 2019 until May 9th, 2024, Aspen Dental really took a nose dive as far as all the things that I had reviewed back in 2019. Because of many of my autoimmune disorders being detrimental to my oral cavity, sinuses, ears and eyes, everything dries up. I will need to be going for spinal surgery. But my teeth have gotten so bad that all of them need to come out. My voice is so gravelly that I sound like "Uncle Joe" from "Petticoat Junction"! After I had five extractions I could not believe how crappy I felt. It knocked me into a multi system flare. I was down for days. Face was swollen and bruised, specifically the jaw, the face, the cheeks and the throat. This female dentist was extremely abrupt and had absolutely no empathy. She was extremely high-handed and very abrupt and rough. I was put on antibiotics for 10 days and off blood thinners for a few days. The pain was horrible and I was still bleeding. I looked like I had lost a few rounds at the "Disability Fight Club"! There was hardly any staff there. I was rushed through it all. I went to a new dentist and she referred me to an oral surgeon. The oral surgeon was very kind and thorough and explained everything before he did it. read more

Stay away from this place. If you have good insurance - they will attempt to milk it! My original dental office no longer accepted my insurance and I had to find a place with flexible hours, so this is where I ended up. I set up what I thought was an easy appointment for my 6 month cleaning and I even asked for a specific doctor based on the reviews I've read. Well, come appointment day I spent a total of 20 minutes of, I kid you not, X-rays of my teeth. When I finally got to sit and prepare for my cleaning, I was told that they are now going to scan my teeth? I finally said, "I just spent 20 minutes of you taking X-rays. You need more for just a cleaning?" The young lady responded saying, "Oh, you're not getting a cleaning. This is just a consultation and we likely won't have time to clean your teeth today." At this point, I feel mislead. IT GETS WORSE!! WAIT FOR IT. I finally get the Doctor who right away, "I see you have your wisdom teeth still, we should remove those," and told me horror stories about people who don't get them removed. I already had a bad taste in my mouth from what happened earlier so I simply said, "that's not something that bothers me." He then said, "well, I also see your teeth have some shifting and we should look into braces." ME: "I ALREADY HAD BRACES." Him: "Then what happened to your bottom teeth?" ME: "I DON'T WEAR MY RETAINER! I AM DONE HERE." Him: "Our receptionist will bring you up front to schedule your wisdom teeth removal and your options." I get up front with the receptionist who says, "you have really good insurance." ME: "-_-". Her: "The doctor is available for an appointment, but there is a required deposit of $200 to hold the appointment." You guys think I booked an appointment? NOPE. I left. I wish this were my last time here. GUESS AGAIN!... I was still struggling with finding a dental office with again, flexible hours. So, I had to book here again only this time I asked for a different doctor thinking this would make a difference and made it pretty clear I just need a cleaning. Set up my appointment, cool. Second appointment came: I get taken back, no 20 minute X-rays this time. You guys want to guess what this doctor told me within seconds of looking at my teeth? "YOU HAVE GINGIVITIS." "Oh really? I HAVE HAD MY TEETH CLEANED EVERY 6 MONTHS SINCE I WAS 7 AND I HAVE NEVER BEEN TOLD OF ALL THESE ISSUES I NOW "HAVE". I TRIED TO GIVE YOU GUYS ANOTHER CHANCE, BUT IT IS CLEAR THAT YOU ARE MONEY HUNGRY." Her: "I apologize, but I can lose my license if I don't handle this for you. I can give you a discount bringing your cost to $80." I left. I finally decided to leave work early and go somewhere else instead trying to locate a flexible office. Well, I found a dentist guys! He shut all that Aspen Dental telling me down. He proceeded to tell me how great my teeth looked and how well I do with taking care of them & I do not need braces again AND I MOST CERTAINLY DO NOT HAVE GINGIVITIS." DONT WASTE YOUR TIME! My appt was for an estimate on a full upper implant. I spoke to the receptionist about this. Xrays: I told the young lady I was there for an implant for my upper teeth, did she have to do my lower teeth too? To which she replied yes. Now this is two people I've told, that I was there for implants. Now I'm in the chair, I have to see the hygienist? Okay, I hear this man talking real LOUD using slang, just real unprofessional so I ask, is that the consultant? She says no, he's the dentist..lol! Oh HELL NO! The hygienist then tells me they can give me a pop out denture, I said for the THIRD time, I'm here for an implant, to which she replied, OH, we don't do that. WHAT?! That's what they advertise! These people will just not let me move on and forget them. They have once again sent me a bill from months ago. Then I realized that the charges looked familiar. So I pull out previous bills and sure enough I had already paid the billed items. So I go and scan the QR to pay and they realized it had been paid also because balance due was 0. But why do they not check things before they send a bill out and get a person mad. Their continued incompetence from the dental chair to the billing department and everything in between is mind blowing. How can so many morons exist in one place? read more

I was here today for an emergency visit and was told I couldn't be seen after 2 hours because of another emergency that came in. Translation = go where the money is. Tried this place to see if they were different than other dentists - they're not. They can fix teeth but don't care about your time. Go here only if you must. This facility first refused to believe that I, a woman, was the primary subscriber to my insurance. The receptionist kept asking me if my insurance was under my fathers name or my husbands name, even after multiple times saying it's under my name. Secondly, I stated multiple times when scheduling my appt AND checking in for my appt that I'm pregnant. The first thing they do when I get called in is try to get me to do X-rays and I said no and they asked if I was pregnant, even though I said multiple times I am. They also had me pay up front when I checked in for my appt for certain services BEFORE I was even seen. Turns out they had me pay for services I did NOT get because I'm pregnant. Which was said multiple times, even a doctors note was provided!! I asked for a refund for the services I paid for that I did NOT get. They said they couldn't until insurance goes through. Which why would it have to go through insurance for services I did NOT get? Seems like fraud to me. After two weeks of insurance going through, I called this facility and they said that CORPORATE can only issue the refund and it's pending their end and will take up to 30 days. Ridiculous! Mind you, when I had my cleaning done, they did not floss my teeth. I've never had a cleaning done where they don't floss. Also, there front window says "walk ins welcome", but there doors are locked. I saw someone try to come in and the receptionist was talking to them through the glass door asking if he had an appt and he said "no, I want to be a new patient" and the receptionist said "if you don't have an appt, I can't help you, I don't have time for this!" Seriously?! What a complete shit show of a facility. DO NOT GO HERE. This is just a franchise company that cares about getting every dollar out of you that they can because your first visit as a new patient they will sneak in an expensive tooth brush on your bill, which you do get, but you don't even ask for it and they make you buy it. I agree with Lizette B's review. If you are inclined to go with Aspen Dental - get a second opinion. Aspen told me that I had significant bone loss and really didn't even exam my mouth or do measurements at the gum line. I left without getting anything done but the xrays. Then went to a Periodontist and he said that was nonsense and all I needed was a cleaning - not deep cleaning or scraping, etc. They were estimating $1,000 OVER what my insurance was going to pay. I'm surprised at the negative reviews on Yelp. I had over $8000.00 worth of work done this year and am very pleased by the way Aspen has handled it. I can't say a bad word about them. After 3 months I finally got a refund for a crown I cancelled that I paid for. I received a bill in the mail for crown work that I never had done I called aspen dental and was told they'd fix that bill since I never had that done by them. A month later and I've received another bill telling me that bill for work I never had done is past due and to pay immediately. It never stops with them they have to put everything through "corporate" these are things that they should be able to take care of immediately for example my refund that took 3 months. Next I'm sure I'll be getting a notice from collections for work I never had done with them!! read more

After being told my visit wouldn't cost more than the $19 for a routine exam/cleaning, and if they were paid by my insurance then I would get a $19 refund. I was told that I need a "deep" cleaning which will cost me $1500 out of pocket and they refused to do the standard cleaning. Called me today to state I owe the difference between negotiated amount and what they actually billed the insurance as part of their contract as an "in network" provider. I called my insurance company and was advised to contact my States Board of Insurance to report them. With Pleasure! read more

I made a first appointment and then I was billed 3x what they initially told me. After several calls, they adjusted it for me... Fast forward months later I finally scheduled my tooth extraction and was surprised that I needed to pay everything up front instead of getting a bill AFTER they process the insurance claim. Nonetheless, I went ahead with the extraction and was in pain for a little under two weeks. So much so that it hurt for me to drink water or even swallow. I went in for a "emergency check in" and all they did was perform an X-ray and told me that the oral surgeon wouldn't be in for another month... I looked at them appalled and was in tears! They don't care about the patients, so I ended up seeing my family dentist instead. read more

If I could give "0" stars I would. This was the single worst experience of my life. I get there 5 mins early for my appointment, and don't get back to the room for xrays and scan until 8:20- Mind you, I'm the first person of the day. Then, the sweet dentist comes in after looking at my x-rays, even shows me the x-rays and tells me everything looks great, only concern is a partially erupted wisdom tooth that is showing signs of decay. Reasonable. Then the hygienist comes in and measures my gums and proceeds to go on and on about how awful my oral health is, my gums are in bad shape, and I have significant bone loss. Then refuses to do a routine cleaning (what I came in for) and tells me they will prescribe an oral rinse and treatment plan and I have to return every 3 months for 2 years!? Okay, something smells funny. Now, he didn't know I can read x-rays, fair. He also didn't know that I am a master's prepared critical care nurse. Again, fair. But do NOT, for one second think that I don't see through the scam to get every penny out of insurance or patient pockets for unnecessary treatments. I have been commended for my oral health since I was a child, never missing a single dental appointment, and you are telling me that my mouth went to sh** in 5 1/2 months since my last visit? I'm sorry, I'm not the gullible patient you typically come across I guess. I walked out. Byeeeeee Felicia. My advice to anyone considering this practice- Seek a 2nd opinion. read more

UPDATED 3Jan2022: Just received yet another bill from Aspen. It doesn't stop with them. They charge for nonsense crap and use codes that they know insurance won't pick up. I have amazing insurance and a dental supplemental. It looks like I could be on the hook for an additional $300. I have never in my life had to pay for X-rays and a cleaning. Please STAY AWAY FROM ASPEN!!!!!! Terrible. I've never had a good experience with Aspen and I've been to two now, one being in Indiana. The same issues with both establishments. They have no transparency, nor do they seem to try to do cleanings directly after the exam (like real dentist offices). The worst part is how they come up with random stuff to suck as much out of your insurance as possible. Apart from leeching your insurance, they come up with the most random Nickel n' diming as possible which will come Out of your pocket!! Example: exam and cleaning with great insurance at Aspen costs appx $130 OUT OF POCKET. When I went to a real dentist office 9 months earlier for the same thing (exam/cleaning) I only paid my copay ($40) and was even treated better. My previous experience at ASPEN dental in Bloomington Indiana was even worse. A YEAR after paying crazy nonsensical out of pocket costs, they attempted to scam another 150 out of me. Luckily my insurance stepped in and put a stop to their harassing calls and letters. Aspen neglected to properly charge my primary insurance as stated by their agreement between them and Humana, however they wanted to put it on me for their error. Stay away from this place and all Aspen dental locations, well unless you want to pay unnecessary out of pocket costs and then later on receive a bill for a bunch of random nickel and dimed line items that insurances wouldn't pick up. read more

I am so disappointing with the poor quality of my partial. It cuts into my gum. I have a sore joint in my jaw from not being able to close my mouth correctly. I have to take the partial out to eat. Isn't eating the purpose of the partial? I can't chew with the partial, the pain in unbearable. I paid thousands of dollars to get this done. I didn't want it but a Dr Joe talked me into it. I have been in to get the partial adjusted but the doctor never has time to get it right. She has patients lined up waiting on her and she is hurried to the point she can't get caught up. I waited last appointment 45 minutes to see her. This is a poorly managed office, and I am pissed off. I want my money back. read more

This relates to Aspen Dental in Gurnee and I can actually say this has been a real fiasco! Aspen Dental is quick to charge you for services ahead of time (as example, you walk into an appointment and before the service is actually done they want payment, I told them I didn't care for this at all) however, I went along with that and made payments accordingly. First let's cover the order of events. I went there with a severe toothache (#30) and they did an examination and concluded that before they did anything further that I would need my teeth cleaned. So I reluctantly agreed to get my teeth cleaned respectively. Mind you I went through two (2) appointments' to get those teeth cleaned, as they referred to this cleaning as "deep cleaning". I was still in tremendous strife and pain from the very tooth I went to them for but, had my teeth cleaned as per them, and it took two weeks as they cleaned both sides. Then on that second final deep cleaning tooth cleaning appointment they were supposed to "prep" me, as well, for a crown on my #30 tooth. I went through the prep and halfway through that they said "you will need a root canal" we cannot finish this crown until you have a root canal. According to them my tooth was worse than they'd originally thought. Granted still in severe strife and pain with this darn tooth! So they, on this third visit of supposed prep - set up another appointment for a root canal and they placed a temporary cap on the #30 affected tooth. I went home, still in severe pain and two days later I woke up and the temporary cap had fallen out and was in my mouth. No problem I went back, as they couldn't see me during the weekend, to have the same temporary cap re-cemented and secured. I then, thereafter, went back another week later, back to have this supposedly necessary root canal. Finally after the root canal - mind you one month later - the pain had finally subsided! Then I went back to have my permanent crown cemented on. While at this appointment the dentist was not happy with the way the crown fit so they did a re-molding and had another temporary cap put on while I waited for the new crown. That temporary cap (once again) fell off prior to my going my going back for the hopeful final crown. Finally I went in for the final crown appointment - in my opinion, the first mistake was doing so the day before Thanksgiving ; everyone was anxious to get out of there so they quickly and obviously haphazardly cemented in the final crown. One week later (ONE WEEK) I was eating a turkey sandwich and the crown fell off and I swallowed it. Needless to say I was dumbfounded and dismayed not to speak of being very-very angry! I called the dental office and had to leave a message, again beyond angry at this whole ordeal and this constant of anything and everything they did falling out, and I said I wanted my money back I was going elsewhere!! I did not receive a singular telephone call from anyone back, I was truly astounded at this in and of itself!! So, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and waited a couple days and again called back, a few days later, and, this time I got the receptionist. I explained the problem to the receptionist and said I wanted to speak to the business manager; she took all my information down and said they she would get back to me. NOW four (4) days later and I have yet to receive a telephone call back. This is unacceptable, to think that not one person in this office had the courtesy to bestow to their patient - not one person returning a customers call. I then called my insurance company and explained the entirety of what had happened, because there is no way this dental clinic should be paid for something they could not provide. The insurance company made notes of this so when I go to a new dentist they will understand why the same tooth is being worked on. I paid $298 - then $489 then $387 totaling $1174 this, not to mention what the insurance company paid. This is absolutely not right - I own my own business and there is no way I could get away with billing someone for work not complete not to speak of not returning a customer's telephone call especially when there is a problem! Who does this - well Aspen Dental is attempting to do this and I am not a happy camper, this is, once again, unacceptable. I am reporting them to the dental society, American Dental Association, equally to the BBB and reviewing them here and, at any other place I discover appropriate. I can only say I am an easy going guy but this is not at all acceptable and, to not have anyone contact me back for their ineptness and not having completed what I paid for (their work). I am not letting this rest suffice it to say! Here I am, and, have yet, NO CROWN which I paid for. read more

I have seen a few different dentists and they have all told me different things regarding my tooth aches/other problems. One day I couldn't stand the tooth ache I was having and did a google search for emergency dentists, Aspen Dental popped up. They were able to take me same day, and I got in pretty fast! All the staff were SUPER friendly and professional. They were able to figure out everything that needed to be done and most got taken care of all in the same day. I had 2 wisdom teeth pulled as well and the entire process was so fast and easy. I'm really glad I found this place because now I feel a lot more at ease going to the dentist! read more

Dr. Bo is one of the best dentists I have ever been too. There r many dentists here,make sure u specifically ask for Dr. Bo. She is very nice,expands everything, & will make sure u r pain free,& explains everything before doing any procedures. The 1st I was put with a dentist Dr. Haddad. He was so rough, didn't explain procedures, I have tmj, & told him that but while preparing on 2 back crowns he pushed so hard ,my jaw was not only in extreme pain,but was out of alineminment. I couldn't eat,chew, & was in extreme pain. When I called & talked to him, he said give it a week. Oh by the by he didn't numb me before using the needle & novicaine, he didn't explain anything!!!! I am one of those people with a debilitating dental phobia and every time I've seen a dentist I feel judged and derided for my very real fears. This combo drove to avoid the dentist for 7 years until an abscessed tooth forced me to make an emergency appointment, and Aspen Dental was the first and closest place that popped up on Google. Holy cow...these are the nicest dental professionals I've ever encountered. Everyone was so kind and understanding when I explained my anxieties, the technician was patient with my strong gag reflex while getting x-rays, and my treatment plan was explained step by step. I knew I'd need a lot of work done, and the treatment coordinator spent an hour with me explaining options, talking financing, and setting up appointments in the right sequence. I had a periodontal cleaning and four fillings done today and I was out in less than 2.5 hours with the least pain and anxiety I've ever experienced at the dentist. I almost never write Yelp reviews--and I wish I could remember anyone's names to shout them out specifically!--but I feel so grateful to have found a place that will help me get my oral health back on track. If I could give them 0 stars I would the worst of the worst, big mistake I had the worst experience ever, the first appointment was a waste off time, the did nothing except for a so called manager very unprofessional read me a whole book of extra charges that my insurance does not "cover according to them", I find that hard too believe because I have the best insurance through the union, they also added stuff that I didn't need then later I find out by other offices. So they try too upsell you so bad, they wanted too extract a tooth dad did not need too be extracted. they are all about upselling and ripping you off so bad, a total joke, too top it off the so called "manager" got mad because I asked questions??? this place is so deceiving don't get fooled by there fancy office. I went to this place about 3 times. Upon my initial exam I was told I had periodontal disease and needed a deep cleaning. I had it done and had to pay $700 out of my own pocket for it that insurance didn't cover. Afterwards I needed to get periodontal maintenance and was required to go get cleaning every 3 months. My last recent visit that I didn't even go in for they were saying I needed to pay $275 for xrays, oral cancer exam & my cleaning & idk what else. so what does insurance even cover? Anyway I did not go in for that appt & made one at a new dentist in Round Lake. I just had my visit there and guess what?! They took xrays and did my cleaning and doctor says I DON'T HAVE PERIODONTAL DISEASE. And my insurance covered it all. So here I have been thinking the worst all this time thanks to Aspen Dental and doing the most that was not needed when my teeth are perfectly fine. Save yourself some money and time and go to real experts, not these money hungry people. read more

Wonderful experience. Today I took my 101 year old mother to get new dentures. I first spoke to Holly on the phone and she was wonderful and helpful. When we got there Jessica came out to the car to help my mom into a wheelchair, and Dr Brian met her at the door while I parked. Dr. Brian explained that her ill fitting dentures were too old to fix. They worked with us on a new set for a reasonable price. Nicole was the one who did the impressions. She had the patience of a saint. I was so pleased with the service I had to write this review. If there was an option to rate the oral surgeon, Doctor Guthrie, negative stars I would. I am 19 years old and had my wisdom teeth removed by him. He was not very friendly or professional. I was very nervous going into the procedure & he did not offer much comfort when he exclaimed: "well, there's not much room to work in here," after he looked in my mouth. He told me he was not sure how he was going to do it but he would try his hardest, how unprofessional! When I was woken up from surgery, they got me out of the chair as quick as possible without any time to recover. I spent 3 days throwing up, nervous that I had ripped my stitches or had gotten dry socket. I asked the dentist at the practice to read the notes Dr. Guthrie had wrote & he told me that he had said he took out a considerable amount of bone & that's why I was in so much pain. This was not told to me until 3 days after the procedure & there was no communication about how the surgery went. The surgeon didn't speak to my mother or communicate with anybody in the office about how the surgery went. I do not recommend this man for any type of oral surgery. read more

BEWARE! After recently moving to the area, I tried out this dentist. The first red flag was that they made me wait for my appointment while they called my insurance to ask what types of treatments were covered! I hadn't even been seen yet! During my exam I was promptly told I had gingivitis, cavities and needed several crowns, and they wanted to start on treatment right away. I've never been recommended that much dental work in one sitting, and it just didn't feel right. I booked an appointment with Woodland Dental for a second opinion, and the dentist told me I didn't need ANY of the treatments that Aspen Dental recommended. DO NOT trust Aspen Dental. They almost talked me into a lot of work I didn't even need - scary! And on top of that, they wouldn't release my xrays to my new dentist. read more

As my first trip to a new dentist office I was very nervous and unsure, but from the second I walked in the doors all the staff treated me with a warm welcome. They kept me smiling and satisfied the whole time. There work was very fast and gentle, and they're hours were very accommodating with my work schedule. I would only say they took a bit longer to get me in the chair because they were very busy. However I will be going to Aspen Dental from now on. read more

Not happy, From my first visit where I felt railroaded in to putting money down on services not yet completed. The visits were long waiting time. They did all my fillings and crown preps in one day which left my jaws aching. While in the chair the dentist may repeated remarks in regards to his inexperience and how he is getting better at certain procedure, left me wondering if I had a student dentist. I was in the office four hours while they ran in and out of my room doing work on other patients and while doing my work were interrupted numerous times by other dental hygienist asking questions about other patients. I did not care for the Hygienist I had she seemed very inexperienced. There are many unnecessary things added to bill unknowingly like a $135 toothbrush, I kindly had them remove. My last visit to have my final crowns put on was the icing on the cake. Was never greeted person at front desk stayed on phone loudly verify services thru some insurance company. The professionalism is lacking and the only reason I let them finish what they started was because I had already paid for the services. I will not go back again and if the work done causes any issues I will seek out legal help to rectify. read more

They also told me I needed a bunch of treatments that would cost significant out of pocket - even after I took extreme care to make sure they were in network for my insurance. After 3 phone calls to confirm they were in network, at the apt, they claimed I was not covered and didn't have dental coverage. After finding my insurance, they proceeded with full mouth Xrays - and I told them they would NOT be covered since it was within the 2 years of last xrays. They did them anyway. I just wanted a cleaning. They moved you from room to room, like an assembly line process and it was after the third room, I got suspicious that this was a scam. They took me to the business office to to present my treatment option. It seems all my teeth were ready to fall out right then and there if I didn't commit to their treatment plan. (The dentist I visited previously was not in network, so I was trying to find one IN network for a cleaning.) My cleaning at Aspen would have been over $280 out of pocket with Insurance paying the majority. I went back to the out of network dentist and decided the out of network price was much better than Aspen. After I expressly told the NOT to bill my insurance for this visit as they did NOTHING but a 2 hour consult, they billed them anyway and scammed the insurance company out of $9.00.
