My name is Rodney & I am a recovering buffet-holic. Many were the days I'd hit up the local AYCE for some calorie-laden, gut-busting sessions of food debauchery. Buffet restaurants would be in the red after I was done with them. However, I've been good. I haven't been to a buffet in awhile. Maybe it's because I'm more health conscious? Maybe it's because I got all that outta my system? Asian Star Buffet had a coupon in the mail for $4.99 lunch, reg. price $7.99. Knowing a deal when I see one, it was time, once again, to seductively slip on the stretchy pants. Beef & chicken are the options over at the Mongolian BBQ section for an employee to cook on the spot. Plenty of vegetable items, such as garlic, bean sprouts, broccoli & onions. I don't know if it was the quality of meat or the cook taking too long with it, but the beef turned out rather tough. Knowing it's a cheap buffet, I wasn't expecting much but after 1 plate, I was done with the Mongolian BBQ. Hot items had food catered to American tastes - pizza, chicken wings, apple pie, broccoli beef etc. Other selections included various soups, mushroom chicken, buchi & baked salmon. Nothing impressive, but decent. The sushi section simply had variations of California rolls. I was hoping for some tuna and/or salmon, but alas, only the "vanilla" of sushi rolls here. However, the desserts section was a winner! Macaroons, creme puffs, cakes, watermelon and other items to appease the sweet tooth. Also included, a froyo station with 4 flavors - chocolate, vanilla, banana & strawberry. Definitely not Yogurtland quality, but the chocolate wasn't bad. Lots & lots of seating! Enough for your family reunion. Enough for both your neighbor's family reunions. Enough for your family's, your neighbor's families & your cousin's, sister's, brother's family reunion combined. Service was good. My attendant cleared my plates ASAP, and made sure I had plenty of water to drink. Plenty of parking. Asian Star Buffet is an okay Chinese buffet. I wasn't enthusiastic about anything offered during lunch. There are lots of buffet options closer to me. I suppose if you're in the area & want a cheap lunch, then perhaps this is the right place for you. As for me, I don't think I'll be coming back. read more

I sadly do not have pictures but let me just say you need to give this place a try. I know to some it may look bad because of previous pictures, reviews, etc, but I went recently and loved it. For two people with drinks the price came out to 37$ I believe. The food taste so good and they have plenty of options. They also have a sushi station where you have a good selection to choose from. The hot foods are the best here in my opinion. They have the conventional fries and chicken for kids but besides that the rest is foods such as chow mein, fried rice, teriyaki chicken, shrimp, miso soup, etc. The dessert section is also nice with plenty of options as well. Like I said this is a place you need to try on your own. I personally loved it and would go back. It is also very clean and staff is always walking around making sure your drink is filled and removing plates you are done with. read more

The food is mostly bland. The tables were smudged with grease, not cleaned properly. The service was terrible and because we were a large party they charged us 10 percent tip, which the did not deserve. They did not pick my plates even once, I had to place them on the next table. The food was mot so good we had to wight about 30 minutes get sited and on top if that we asked for services and drink and 2hours later after we had eaten we did not get service and we still got charge 18% of our bill and they wore rude and disrespectful to us saying they're to busy to help us because it was to many of us and it was only 6of them in The flore if I wore you if you have a party or big family don't go thier we wore 6 and they say we wore to many for them to help and all they had to do was bring drinks not food and on top of we kept on calling because the air-conditioning was leaking on our food and us and they did nothing to help us... read more

One of the most horrible buffet I ever been. Although, the price is really cheap less than $6.99 lunch per person; I will not go here anymore. First of all, I want to be honest with you guys since it's a review on this place, but still want to keep it rated PG13.. well let's just say I wrote this review while doing my business ;) Yeap it's implied lol.. moving on! This morning I got a craving for Chinese buffet. Since I can't remember the last time this happened, I had to look to see what my choices were. This one was only about 5 miles from where I am. Since it's in an area I rarely go, I had no idea it was there. But I'm going back. I couldn't believe the selection of items available. Everything from dim sum to traditional like orange chicken to sushi to American and a little bit of everything in between. I was there at lunch so I wasn't expecting any seafood but there were a few dishes. Rows and rows of items including a decent salad bar, a chocolate fountain and a dessert bar. I tried a little bit of a bunch of things like dim sum, pot stickers, and sushi. While I liked some things better than others, I can honestly say everything was good. My only complaint would be the desserts. There were a bunch and a lot I traditionally see at a Chinese buffet, none of them really appealed to me. I was stuffed anyway so maybe that's a good thing. I went at 1p on a Friday and the place was pretty busy. Tables were cleAned quickly and people moved along in the line so everything flowed. My server was nice and made sure I had enough water and tea. I saw some of the reviews about service but I didn't find them to be true. Some of the bus people didn't have much interaction with guests but I'm thinking it might be a language issue. I was taken care of and was thrilled about that. Am I going back? Yes! Don't let the $6.99 lunch special price fool you. With a drink, the bill came out to $9.59. I checked this place out as an alternative to King Taco since I would have spent just about the same amount on tacos or a burrito and a drink. Was very apprehensive to try only because it's a Buffet....I walked in expecting flavorless food with soggy veggies & stale cold items like won tons, pot stickers & egg rolls......BOY WAS I WRONG! Chicken was the winner of the day...... Chicken on a Stick, Orange Chicken & Jalapeno Chicken was all DEElicious. So much flavor! I didn't even touch my Sriracha.... YUMMY! The Green Beans & Broccoli were so crisp & fresh. Cooked perfectly! Weekends is about $11 all day.... lots of seafood choices Weekdays Lunch is about $7 a lot less choices of seafood Dinner is about $10 with lots of seafood choices...... Went back about a month ago for another great weekday lunch and noticed they installed some new glowing electric insect catchers high up on the walls to help with the flying insect problems. It was about 11:30 for the $4.99 lunch special and everything was hot, fresh, cold things were cold, and everything was tasty. If extra flavor is desired, they have the usual condiments on the table to season the food to your personal taste. One of my favorites is the delicious Mongolian stir fry and the guy grilling everyone's ingredients worked nonstop from the round grill. Before we left I made sure that he saw me drop in some dollars in his tip container to show him our appreciation. Thanks to the managers for showing their care and concern by looking for ways to improve the dining experience overall. read more

I dined at Asian Star Buffet recently, an I have to say it was great. The food was really good & they had a large variety of Asian food to choose from. The food presentation was good, it all looked fresh & ready to be eaten. Not a large variety of sushi, but the basics were accounted for and tasteful. The service was excellent, the staff were very welcoming & helpful. And the dinning area was spotless. P.S. they have t.v.'s in the dining area for sports watching as well. Nasty Star! If I could give you no star I would. This is the worse Buffet I've been to, the foods were not warm and nothing fresh here. Everything was left over from lunch And I paid $9.99 for each dinner at 4:00 pm. Why am I paying for dinner's price when I'm eating old foods from lunch? The quality of the foods is not edible. Crab legs,fried shrimps, fried octopus, stir fried beef broccoli was brown, string beans, chicken wings, were either over cooked(burnt) or dry looks like it's been sitting under the heat lamp for hours. Soggy rice noodles. Sushi were not fresh. Chicken wings were black don't know because of the old oil or it was burnt. The only positive about this review is Mongolian Stir fried was the only hot food at this restaurant. Before we leave the restaurant my son was complaining about his stomachache and it's 103 degrees at 4:00 in the afternoon. If my son get food poisoning from here you will be getting hospital bill from me...... Nasty Star. I was very dissatisfied with my visit today and brought it to the cashier attention and all I got was"I'm sorry" I'll make sure my friends and family do not go to this Nasty Star Buffet . I will surely tell everyone about my experience today the funny part is it's my first time here and it cost me $21.88 for 2 dinners and I'm leaving this restaurant hungry.... but I won't be coming back here for second. Hmm. Ok. This place wasn't my choice. My sister heard good things about it from a coworker. Our visit was during veterans day and because of that the lunch price was $11.99. It's usually $5.99. Really? So the food tasted ok. Nothing great. But they had a lot to choose from - orange chicken, noodles, beef broccoli - the norm. They also had crab legs and clams. There is a station to pick your own ingredients for a freshly made stir fry. The service is nice and attentive. The restaurant was fairly clean. It was cool hanging out with the family and all. Today I had the rudest encounter with one of the waiters. Like usual they are almost pushing you to get out. But this time the waiter was pressuring constantly about the tip. I was thinking of giving the tip but he even clapped his hand like if he was ordering me and told me "your going to give me tip or with card!" I was bothered by this attitude because when I was paying to get change he told me to give him tip. WTH! I was going to tip him but he should not be ordering me to give him a tip. This is about the forth time that we've ate since here their opening a couple of months ago. This time however it was like walking into the twilight zone. On every sneeze guard the was a sign in English and Spanish saying don't take food if you can't finish it. I'm sorry but that is the price of doing business as a buffet. They also seem to be cutting corners now on a lot of their dishes. Some of the proteins are now more than 50% vegetables. Also, we felt like the waiter was watching us like a hawk for taking food that we didn't finish. He once actually asked if we were going to finish our plate. There was so another person standing behind the line just watching people and eyeballing people if they took too much food. On the plus side they have lowered their lunch price to $4.99. I came here a few years back and yes it was outdated and probably your last resort to a Chinese buffet, but let me tell you this isn't the same place! It looks super modern, it has a variety of food, it even has Mongolian BBQ. The food is very tasty, fresh and the staff is super friendly, most of all it's very affordable. I've been coming here for years, but it seems that during the past year or so, the food has changed A LOT!!! it use to be one of my favorite buffets but after yesterday I'm simply done coming here. It's the 3th time that I have noticed the food tastes weird. The first time it was those bows with cream cheese (not sure what they are called). The cream cheese tasted sour. It seemed as if it was spoiled already and they still used it anyway. The 2nd time it was the California rolls that also tasted weird and smelled funky. 3rd time was yesterday when i got a little taste of the mongolian food they have there. The pineapples had a disgusting taste. I had to put them aside. Then I stood up to get some California rolls, WELL the imitation crab was spoiled AGAIN!! I don't know what's been happening with this place lately that if its not one food its another type of food that simply has a weird rotten taste. I continue to come here because my son loves the fish , white rice and pizza . But after yesterday , it was the last drop. They don't care for their meats, nor foods. Just because it's frozen or in the fridge doesn't always mean it's good to cook. And not to mention the unpleasant smell you receive when they sit you near the restrooms, it's disgusting. They dont even bother to clean the restrooms anymore. They don't provide toilet seat covers nor toilet paper sometimes. The diaper changing table is disgusting as well. How is it that they have 10 people out in the tables, walking, chit chatting while eating a plate of rice, or simply spying on the customers BUT can't send one of their workers to clean that filthy restroom? 3rd disappointment through out the year. The food was pretty good especially for the price. I was somewhat disappointed they only had albacore sushi and. It salmon like I saw in all the pics, but oh well the sushi I did have a was pretty fresh and good. The potstickers were just okay, but the wontons were really good and tasted fresh. They have a good selection of soups which I appreciate, and the Mongolian BBQ noodle station was a big plus. I wasn't exactly wowed, but I'd go back. WARNING. Leaving a tip is apparently mandatory here, otherwise the staff will chase you down demanding it. Me and my husband came have come here a few times, as the food here is good and cheap, but after what happened during our last visit, we will never come back again. After finishing our meal, we had paid the check as usual. As we were getting ready to leave, we were going to leave a tip, but both are wallets were empty. We felt bad, but nothing could be done. We had already paid after all, so we got up to leave. Well, as we were walking out, the staff member actually called after us and pretty much told us to tip him. My husband didn't want to use our card again, but went ahead and gave his tip. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with tipping at all, but to have someone chase us down and demand it from us is unacceptable. Especially since tips are not supposed to be mandatory. All in all, this place had lost our business for good, which is a shame because, as I mentioned before, the prices are cheap and the food is good. read more

Haven't eaten here for awhile. Some things have changed and bear mentioning Price has increased, but this is all over. Sushi was OK not exceptional. All of the hot food was not hot some things barely warm, the rest cold. Even though it was a week night many of the serving trays had what looked like leftovers from lunch, or were empty. The dishes for ice cream/yogurt were in a large rectangular bucket and many had what appeared to be food or chocolate on them. The table person left our dishes on the table and only picked them up when I placed them on the divider behind our booth. She acted very hostile and made us very uncomfortable whenever she came close to our table. One girl had a broom and kept sweeping toward our table while we were eating. This is a very decent looking and very affordable buffet, they have a variety of food items to choose from so that's great. However, there was some items that I put on my plate but didn't eat because you can taste that the food item had been there too long; in other words NOT FRESH!! Another thing is that their staff was a little rude and not really attentive to their customers. Overall, this place is worth a try if you're ever in Paramount (or surrounding cities) looking for a buffet. The buffet area, dining area, and bathrooms are clean so that's a definite plus. Ive been coming here for years with my family and never have i ever had a problem about it. Ive worked in restaurants and i know what its like but its never happened to me. But when it came to tonight, i found a worm in my peaches. And i told the server i understand it happens i kept my calm . He took the plate away. I thought he was gonna change it pan lf peaches but he didnt just took it away and i watched another lady serve herself. Thats disgusting. Dont reuse the peaches after you find a worm.
