I heard great things about this place so I decided to check out the west Detroit location. I ordered 4 cornbeef rolls. I was exactly impressed. They weren't bad but nothing to rave about. I think they should add more meat. A lot of the egg roll had a high chunk of space with no meat or cheese which made for doughy egg roll. See my picture to see what I'm talking about. I want to try the cornbeef sandwich, but I'm not so sure I'll be running back so quickly. Service was quick - in and out in about 10 minutes.

I've thought long and hard about this review and It's based on the food and staff. I've been to a few of their locations and the quality and service are consistent. I've tried at least 4 or 5 of the egg rolls and all were absolutely delicious. The staff has always been friendly and orders don't take very long prepare (10 min or less). This is a really unique place to stop, if you see an Asian Corned Beef in an area, the areas aren't typically the nicest in metro Detroit, but the food is truly worth a visit. I recently stopped in on a Tuesday and grabbed the Tuesday special with 2 egg rolls, a drink and fries for the $7... Which is usually the price of 2 egg rolls! Great deal and great rolls! Im not typically in the area, but when I am, it's a treat to grab a few rolls and dig in. It's a delicious guilty pleasure and you can get a nice meal for $10 or less!

Good ole Asian Corned Beef. A lot of people have never heard of an egg roll with corned beef and swiss cheese inside, and if you haven't, this is the place to go. There are multiple locations within the city with more opening. The egg rolls here are delicious, a decent size and affordable. You can get two egg rolls, fries and a drink for only $6. They have really good deviled eggs as well. I knocked off a star for a reason that is minor to me but may be huge to others...especially those that do not live in or visit Detroit often. This place (and a lot of establishments in Detroit) is very unprofessional. Half of the time, they do not answer the phone when you try to call ahead. The staff can be rude and have an attitude sometimes. If you are visiting from outside of the city, this will probably be considered a bad thing. But being born and raised in Detroit, this is very normal. I love this place.

I LOVE corned beef egg rolls with duck sauce. Only thing is it's hard getting through on the phone. They're quick and good tho.

It's Okay Just Wish The Egg Rolls Were Made Fresh. Also Doesn't Seem To Have Enough Meat Inside. Great Prices Though.

I can't believe the place is still here after all of these years. There are 2 types of subs here: Italian, and "Other Subs", so you know that this shop sprang from the vibrant Italian community that once populated Detroit. The Italian Subs at Gonella's are ordered according to how many layers it builds up (which I think is a unique concept). These layered Gonella Italian Subs are layered with a variety of Italian meats (Hard Salami, Salami Cotto, Mortadella, Smoked Ham and Capicola), provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions & Gonella's homemade dressing. Extras: Peppers (+.50) Cheese (+.50) - (Turkey is reserved for the "Other Subs). 6 Layers Meat, 1 Layer Cheese --- $8 8 Layers Meat, 2 Layer Cheese --- $9 12 Layers Meat, 2 Layer Cheese --- $12 14 Layers Meat, 3 Layer Cheese --- $13 18 Layers Meat, 3 Layer Cheese --- $14 The subs are heavy and delicious. Soft sub buns, tons of stacks of meat, lettuce and tomato or not. No one goes hungry after a sub here. Some deli spots tend to skimp on the protein, but not this place. My team members favorite is the Italian, 6 stacks. I usually will go for a turkey or chicken stack. They offer up to 18 stacks, haven't tried that yet.

I have been a big fan of corned beef and pastrami for years but my go to is on the other side of the city not to far from Dearborn, there is a couple other delis in eastern market area, one I like and the other I think is outrageous and the people there are rude, well today I was in the mood for a good corned beef on rye, got looking at a few apps I have and I come across Champs which is in Gratiot Central market where I go to buy certain meats to grill and smoke, but I never have gone there to buy prepared food, well I'll tell you it was Very Good ! The place is simple ,it is clean, they have a cool old Ford truck in there well the have half of it but none the a nice place , and the lady that waited on me was very cool, I decided I wanted Pastrami Indian it was excellent the , it was not greasy which is what I like to see it was heated just right and got slaw on it and my bread wasn't a soggy mess, I thought the price point was very good for my sandwich which also came with 2 pickles that were good and my drink, And the info I read is this is a small business this isn't corporate owned this is someone or family doing it cause they love please try support small business they need it now more than ever , I thought it was very good I hope you do as well.
