Went to the Asian Buffet on 9125 Bonaventure Dr S E, this is the 2nd time in 18 years, the first time sucked, everything tasted the same, thought we would give it one more time, surely it must have improved with time. Nope, just as bad, maybe even worse. The food was so lukewarm, it was cold by the time we sat down at our table. Nothing on our plates tasted good, it was rubbery, tasteless, such a dissapointment, and pricy, also they wanted a big tip, for what for, we got up and got our food, all they did was fill our water glass with lukewarm water. I would give them a .5 out of 10. probably less, but I thought I would be nice with that. You can't even write a review, so sorry people, I tried to warn you to save your money, but it looks like you will have to find out the hard and expensive way like we did. "Would not recommend it at all" Van has been in the bathroom ever since we got home, I'm pretty sure he has food poisoning, poor guy, he just had his chemo treatment, which doesn't make him sick by the way, but to end the day like this, not good. read more

What happened to the Asian Buffet? Did it get a new owner or new cooks? I used to stop here everytime I came through Calgary, but last night it was terrible. The food was bad and the bathrooms were disgusting. I ordered my usual avocado fruit milkshake with tapioca pearls, and even it tasted funny. Half of the dishes had no signs on them, and for someone with allergies, having to guess what things are is not fun. A lot of the pans were empty, with no signage as to what was supposed to be there, so I skipped over them, then saw other people had food I like, but I didn't get any, because there wasn't any when I went through. However, the food was so bad, I probably didn't miss it anyway. There were plates at only one of the buffet aisles, so you had to go searching for a plate, yet there were a ton of waiters/waitresses walking around. And it was the night of the seafood buffet, so I paid twice as much as I normally do for almost inedible seafood. The waiters/waitresses wouldn't leave me alone, which is better than no attention, but they kept trying to take my plate before I was done with it. The sushi bar has improved greatly, so that was a plus, but everything else was definitely not worth $50. There was no hand sanitizer in either dispenser at the buffet and only one soap dispenser and one paper towel dispenser worked in the bathroom so there was a line up to get soap and paper towels. The bathroom looked like it hadn't been seen by a staff member all day, even though it wasn't busy. The toilet paper was great, though, best I've ever seen in a restaurant, too bad a great majority of it was scattered all over the floor. Well I was surprised at the amount of selection in the Buffet for lunch. Salad bar, soup bar, sea food bar, sushi bar, desert and Ice cream bar. I found the interior just okay a little rundown, piles of boxes in the sight of some diners. Looked very clean around the buffet bars. Your typical Asian buffet from fried rice, noodles, ginger beef, chicken, egg rolls, Oysters in a half shell, veggies. There was also dim sum item, bbq pork buns, pork wrap, chicken feet etc... The food flavour was okay chicken feet, Oysters were yummy, to finished off I had a sesame seed ball with bean paste inside. Service was okay made sure our water was filled and plates taken away. Nothing really stood out for me there was no wow factor everything was your typical buffet. Great parking, but can see the lot filling up fast for the evening buffet. They do take reservations for the evening. I'll come back if I'm in the neighbourhood, I won't be going out of my way to come here. read more

The food is second rate, the service was appalling and we will never go back! $29.99 for a senior plate? Ridiculous!! The server asked our 4 year old granddaughter how old she was, but they tried to sneak a charge for the 9-11 age range into the bill. When my husband pointed it out, the snippy little thing argued and said "she looks 9 to me!"" One of the worst, most expensive lessons we've learned in a very long time! read more

At a Wed lunch time 12:15PM, the restaurant food was all quite cold including the Wanton soup., buffet slots were empty, and service was extremely poor. As you step inside the establishment the place looks very different than the typical "asian-style" buffet restaurant. The servers were young and friendly, and quickly to get us to our tables. Many people wrote reviews about the food being too salty or gave food poisoning, all the negatives, etc. In my experience the food was great, sure like all restaurants there was a few that were not up to my expectations but majority was good. Sushi bar was surprsingly tasty and the boba was also well made, the taste was good just the pearls stuck all together I am guessing from too much time in the pot, in summary my experience there went as is: place was clean, food and service was good, price was good, experience was good. FINGER NAIL IN MY FOOD! Now I know it's been a couple months since I've written a review but what can I say I've had a great summer and been super busy with work and enjoying life. Anyway, on to the review.. Been to Asian Buffet a bunch of times before and actually thought it was one of the better Chinese buffets you'll find in Calgary. Not anymore after my experience a couple weeks ago. We went there on the weekend with my entire family (about 100 of us) for my cousin's birthday party at lunch on a Saturday. Service there was the same as any other Chinese restaurant but at least they definitely keep the food coming. They refill often and that's nice so you can get a fresh batch of whatever during your meal, as long as you go during a typically busy time. Food was decent. I went for my second plate, after a few pieces of sushi and dim sum, and got the Mongolian grill. Felt a funny texture in my mouth and spat the whole thing out onto my napkin only to find a FINGER NAIL. I was instantly disgusted and totally felt sick to my stomach. I told the two managers, they were in the least understanding and even mentioned they wanted to do something for us because of our experience. I was asking them to do something for our group, But they were reluctant to offer even 5% off the bill as they said it was too big of a party to be compensating one person's experience. So instead, I received in the mail a $30 gift card to Starbucks for the poor experience we had. I could have easily spoiled the appetites of many that afternoon but respected the manager's wishes to not say anything. However, as a yelp elite, I felt obligated to share my experience with others so they hopefully don't experience what I did. I guess at least they didn't give us a gift card to go eat there again?! I am grateful they did try to do something about it though. I understand that this may be a rare occurrence but be fore-warned.. it HAS happened here..and to me, unfortunately. This buffet, is your standard Asian food buffet. They had a very good spread of everything you'd expect to find at an Asian buffet, along side some more unique options. We were there for the lunch, so the spread wasn't as large as the dinner buffet, but other people have said it's pretty good. read more

We went there as a group of about 27 today for lunch. Service was good. Large tables for groups. A full Buffet with lots to choose from, including some Dim Sum items. The evening menu apparently is a little different. Anyhow, I did not hear anyone complain about the food - everyone seemed pretty satisfied. Price was around $20/each. I am now organizing for a different group to go and give it as try. So yes, I recommend it. read more

Me and my girlfriend went here today, I used to go when I was younger and remember it being so good so my gf was pretty hyped. It was so disappointing. The meat was all basically jelly, the noodles and rice tasted like nothing, the only good part was the mussels and shrimp but the shrimp wasn't cleaned out. My girlfriend was literally grossed out by the food, and honestly so was I and I am really not hard to please especially for a buffet. Before we left I asked to speak to someone, told the manager working that we really didn't enjoy anything. He offered to not charge us which was a relief, i apologized and he said maybe next time but we won't be going back. The staff is super nice, but the food sucks. read more

Pleasantly surprised with Asian Buffet. I came here out of desperation as I had dropped off my car in the area and needed both to eat and to burn two hours. I tried to hit up bluefin AYCE for what I knew was going to be a disappointing meal, but as it turns out they are closed for renos, so off I went trekking to Asian Buffet, which involved hiking across the entirety of McLeod. With this being an Asian buffet, the service is supposed to be crappy. Surprisingly I found the waitstaff to be relatively attentive at clearing plates and refilling water - nice. The Buffet selection was also pretty good. I found the sushi to be surprisingly good - good ratio of fish to rice and not at all dry. It was being restocked fairly regularly and was reasonably fresh. (Great selection of sushi too!) They also had some dim sum stuff, which was actually really good. The Shrimp Dumplings were particularly good, as they were actually filled with shrimp and didn't fall apart when you tried to pick them up. Other than that they had some pretty generic "chinese buffet" fare which was not too bad either. They also have a "mongolian grill", which I didn't try. Overall, for $18, it was really not bad and definitely exceeded my albeit low expectations. I would definitely come here again if the mood strikes. read more

What a disappointment. Used to be quite good. Ate there yesterday for the first time since pre pandemic. Couldn't have been worse.

My husband and I used to live just down the street from here and stopped by a few times. Last night we came back for the first time in a couple of years. The staff were friendly and attentive, the buffet was well stocked. I didn't love the sushi (it was very dry) but I didn't expect it to be amazing. I was very disappointed to see no chicken balls since they are my favourite, and the steamed bbq pork buns were one thing that was not replenished while we were there. Overall the restaurant is decent for the price. There is a large variety of dishes (including lots of dessert) but I feel like it's all mediocre food... Nothing was done AMAZINGLY. I would come back but it would not be my first choice. read more

It's remarkable because of the wide variety of asian food found here. Not all of it was good but they did have some things that were OK. I would recommend the dim sum here and the mongolian grill at the back. The haw gow was decent and unlimited. They also had an OK ice cream selection. The rest was hit or miss. But they do have a wide variety of food to try for an inexpensive price. I wouldn't recommend this place for good asian food but if you want to be able to sample a variety of asian cuisine in one sitting this place is probably the place to do it in Calgary. read more

It had been a long time since I ate here, back in the Treasures of China days. As a previous reviewer stated, even then it was passable as okay and would offer one dish that was edible. Not only will it be a long time until I eat here again, it will never happen again!!! The food was Luke warm at best, the wonton soup (which is a no brainer - should be a no brainer) was off, the butter for the crab legs was burnt and was not changed even though I mentioned it to staff. As mentioned by previous review,, shrimp still had their poop chutes intact. Okay, so the chicken wings were edible, but the pocket of hot grease I got sprayed with when biting into it hindered me eating more. My wife and daughter, whose birthday it was, didn't get one bite of anything that they didn't regret, if not immediately, within 20 minutes of reaching home. I cannot in any way shape or form, suggest this restaurant for any reason. Food - sub sub par Service - our waiter was okay, forgot water glass to replace dirty one. Buffets that serve quasi-Asian food, mixed with a sprinkle of deep fried Western favourites are not hard to find. Finding a quality buffet at a decent price, however, isn't always an easy task. Apparently I found a gem when my friend brought me to Asian Buffet-- It wasn't even listed on Yelp Everyone else's loss is my gain as I see it because this place is definitely worth the money. It is a buffet, so don't expect five star dining, but you can go in expecting some decent food. On top of the normal foods you would find at an Asian buffet (chicken balls, sweet + sour pork, fried rice etc.) they also have an entire section of the buffet dedicated to more traditional Asian fare. The price of the buffet is $12.99, which is good for a normal buffet let alone one that offers everything Asian Buffet does. The buffet is extensive, the pop is bottomless, alcoholic drinks are a good price and they also have nonalcoholic cocktails for those looking to be adventurous but stay away from the booze. It is a big place and finding a seat doesn't seem like it would be an issue. There is only one TV in the dining room, which is fine, but when I was there they only had bowling on which I still find slightly odd. This place was also open on Christmas Day, so for those who aren't big on the holiday season, this is an option for you. read more

If you are into disorganized pre-meal experiences, don't miss out your chance at Asian Buffet. The hostess station was sheer chaos. Crazy busy on a Friday night. We waited the 30 minutes. If it wasn't for the great swrvice of our waitress, this would have been a solid 1 by 5, but .... Our waitress was there to clear plates and top off non-stop Coke prontissimo. For her efforts I would average the service out at a 3 by 5. The buffet was a madhouse. Food was not being replenished very quickly and at one point 3 of 4 plate stations were completely empty. For the most part, however, the food was not bad. I really enjoyed the crab legs, but so did everyone else since there wasn't any left most of the time. Overall I would rate the food a 3 by 5. However, I am taking a solid 2 points off for cleanliness and food service standards: 1) I actually saw the guy who was filling up the dessert dishes SNEEZE on his hand then directly place 50+ plates on the dispenser without washing his hands or using the hand sani dispenser 3 feet away. 2) I later saw this same staff member sweeping in the mens room and NOT washing his hands when he left. Back to plate dodo, I mean duty. 3) Every one of the bins and racks for carrying dishes and glasses were FILTHY dirty. Stopped in here for the lunch buffet. They offer both Chinese and Dim Sum in the buffet. Upon first glance the selection is massive, however the quality of the food was far below any chinese food standard. The chicken balls were all dough, the pork did NOT taste like a typical pork dish from any other chinese place, and the beef was also questionable. The vegetables, rice, and noodles were tasty, and they had a massive selection of sweets. I would not go back to this buffet place, as the food made me feel sick afterwards. read more

We went there for dinner lately with my family and friends. The hostess said we will be charged 10% for having a large group because of the additional service (moving the chairs and tables maybe?) and stuff. But she added she can rip that 10% off if we were seated apart...... Duh? Where's the logic in that? Seated at the same table or apart doesn't make any difference! Anyway, we were already there, starving, so wth and we thought we'd be seated close to each other, because we went there as a group.. But to our dismay, our tables were all around the place! With tables close to each other empty! Our family was seated at the far end where the chairs were piled up and we felt uncomfortable so we asked the hostess if we could be transferred to a different table. Guess what? The hostess was hesitant and said they have to bring back the 10%!!! We asked for the manager but she even didn't talk to us (i wonder if she even speaks english) and was talking in chinese! Spell rude! Anyway, we still insisted on being transferred and the hostess eventually agreed. They were also running out of food that time that the table next to us had to tell one of the servers to pls refill it because we paid for it! So disappointed that our fun night had to end that way! On the decline.... I used to come here on occasion when it was still called "Treasures of China." It was never fantastic but it was decent and a good place to go when dining with others who all like different things. My most recent experience here will not have me returning. The food was really pretty awful. They had peel and eat shrimp but none of the shrimp were de-veined and had thick, gritty veins (ie- digestive tracts!) running along the back of them. And believe it or not, the shrimp were pretty much the most edible thing they had. The sushi was worse than grocery store sushi -- dry and lukewarm. All the stir fried dishes were barely hot and the utensils used to serve them were sticky and unclean. Many items were mislabeled, if they had a label at all. I also tried a piece of fried white fish and it was awful. I don't even know what kind of fish it was, but it tasted funky and not good at all. I'm generally not a picky eater and can usually find *something* at a restaurant that is palatable. But this place really did not have anything that I would consider paying for again. Save your money and your time. You're better off Bonzai or Empress Buffet which are just a few blocks south, right on MacLeod Tr. read more

I do have to congratulate them on the wide variety of food, but at times like this I wonder, is the quantity worth the sacrifice of quality? I went here because it was my friend's birthday and he really likes it. The good thing is they tell you which dishes have MSG and which ones don't. It's a pretty standard Chinese buffet. It's nothing special but it sure is filling. It would've gotten 3 stars however they stiffed us when paying. The gratuity was already included but they charged us extra anyways. I have been going to Asian Buffet (formally known as Treasures of China) for years. The quality of food has always been a little bit all over the place. It's never been horrible, but some days are better than others. Their food trays are usually stacked nice and high and they have quite the excellent assortment of foods which means you will probably find something that you like. I'm particularly fond of their large dessert selection, yum sweets! The location is pretty ok, but their building is huge so it works for them and pretty much guarantees you'll get a seat. Because they focus on being a buffet the service is also pretty good in regards to having plates cleared away without building up. Water is also topped off frequently which is perfect because I always get thirsty at these places (MSG perhaps? Or just regular dehydration? Who knows!). It's not the greatest, but if you're hungry enough to eat three servings, and have a craving for some ok Asian food, it's worth checking out. read more

This was a decent restaurant at one time, however it is no longer. We went here with a party of 6 as it was my Mother's birthday party. We arrived at 8:30pm and the restaurant closed at 10:00. At 8:30 we went to the buffet and it was immediate apparent that even though we paid full price 28.00 per plate they had definitely stopped adding to the Buffet long before then. We made do for the "first round" and found food to eat however a half hour later it was clear that they were not even trying. Rice was no longer out, Crab legs were no longer there, peel and eat shrimp no longer stocked. They had served French fries however the little that was left in the bin looked like the fries you find in the Mcdonald's bag the next day. Suffice it to say that there was nowhere near the quality or quantity or choice that one would expect for almost $30. I complained to the manager which was a trick and he started asking me which of the missing or old items I wanted refreshed, to the six of us. I told him we weren't going around to pick the food we might want eat, but instead I negotiated a 10.00 discount per plate, which he agreed to and he apologized for the situation. At the end of the meal they presented the bill, they had only given a $10 discount, I took it up to the cashier who told me that was a ridiculous request and the manager I had spoken to had left the restaurant. I told her to phone him. He said that it was a misunderstanding. I left the amount for 18.00 per plate as agreed and I will never go back. I work hard for my money and the restaurant has no problem taking the max amount, but at the same time refused to offer decent fair. read more

Was here yesterday and the place was not very busy but that is to be expected coming out of the pandemic. The buffet wasn't completely full and the dishes were getting stale because of the lack of customers. Once the food was refreshed it was better. The poor shrimp which I usually love were sitting on ice but were drying out on top. Not very appetizing at all. The usual Asian fair was just ok. Most was over breaded and hard to find the protein that was inside. No dry ribs and the chicken wings are heavily breaded and deep fried as well. Some of the steamed dumplings were good. The beef and broccoli was tasty. The chicken dish was weird tasting. The grill wasn't open but when I asked about it at the end of my meal she said yes it was open but you had to tell them what you wanted and they would have cooked it in the kitchen. Too bad I wasn't told that coming into the restaurant. Hopefully with more customers coming into the restaurant the food will get better and with more variety. Reminds me of the low quality, American/Asian Chinese food I used to eat when I was a kid. This meal could have been so much better. read more
