Came around 11:30 on friday, some tables taken but plenty of empty seats. They do the traditional pushing carts which is rare to find. They have some basic dimsum, suimai, hargow, lomaigai, lobatgoh, some fried stuff, in addition to a small menu to order other dishes. I didnt rly see much baked baos, like baked chasui bao or bolobao, also didnt see much steamed baos. We asked for the runny egg yolk bao bc thats my fav, took a while to come out and wasnt that runny. We ordered some soup noodle dish but they messed up and gave it to us dry so they gave us a bowl or broth. Overall everything was mid, nothing was super yummy, idr anything was bad tho. We were having a late start for work and wanted to eat good before getting started. Dim Sum comes to mind often. Silver Dragon offers a unique experience having some dishes not carried in the united States. And the prices were cheap. Everything is moving fast too especially with a group the knows what they want. I think it made it confusing to the cart ladies trying to listen to everyone speaking at the same time but they provided correct answers. Everything was well done and presented. We got shrimp and pork shumai, pork buns, baked pork buns, egg custards, short ribs, etc. All in all we picked up about 20 dishes. That came to about $200 Canadian dollars, about $137 American dollars. With prices like that the thought of moving to Canada is real. Yelpers need to step it up in Calgary. Only 171 reviews when Google has almost 2,400 reviews? Silver Dragon was the most reviewed and highest rated dim sum restaurants in Calgary. I'm not sure why. The siu mai was mushy. The har gow was okay. The beef rice noodle roll was tasteless. My wife didn't like it. The tofu skin roll (sin jook goon) was not very good either. We only ordered 4 dishes because what we ordered was not good. We didn't want to order anything else. The worst dimsum place in the San Gabriel Valley is better than this place. We came here for an early dinner at 4pm and was not busy. Big dining area and can host a wedding reception. They have full service bar but I wasn't sure if they were open since there's a divider up. We got seated right away and re l ordered mostly from their dim sum menu which was limited to mostly dumplings and buns with a few meat options and the Chinese broccoli for vegetables. If you want chili oil with your dumplings then you'll have to ask for it as it doesn't come automatically on the table like how I'm use to back in MN. You get soy sauce and siracha for dipping but have to ask for chili oil. The beef and broccoli was flavorful, fresh, and the beef was very tender. The hot tea was very good. Overall, we had a nice dinner. The dinner can get pricey. read more

We arrived in Calgary after a few days in Canmore this morning. After checking into our hotel downtown, we explored Stephen Avenue Walk. Not being impressed with the restaurant choices there, we decided to have dim sum in Chinatown just steps from our hotel. A quick Google search led us to Silver Dragon. We were lucky to be able to scoot by the Sunday morning line at the restaurant because a table for 2 was more readily available. We felt being transported back in time as soon as we sat down when we saw dim sum carts being pushed around. I don't think I can remember the last time I saw dim sum carts. Personally I'm not a fan of dim sum carts because you'd never know if the dishes you want are e er going to be served. I'd like to order what I'd like to have. The dishes we had were very respectable though: siu mai, octopus in curry sauce, rice rolls with prawns and rice rolls with Cantonese doughnuts. The only surprise was the bolo (pineapple) buns. Bolo buns are usually plain (from bakeries) or stuffed with BBQ pork (when served as a dim sum dish). The ones we had today had pineapple chunks in them and they were not very good. The crust was very good though. Bolo (pineapple) buns do not have pineapple chunks so please lose them. Service was also excellent. We didn't see any rice rolls with Cantonese doughnuts being pushed around so we placed an order and our waiter was very eager to help. read more

We had a dim sum feast at Silver Dragon Restaurant in Calgary China Town and I highly recommend this restaurant to all looking for excellent and authentic Chinese Food and in our case Dim Sum! We came with a party of 6 and ordered a variety of dim sum and let me tell you Silver Dragon did not disappoint. We ordered several dim sum from their picture menu which was nice for us dim sum noobs and also got a recommendation from our wonderful waitress Janet. My son and I ordered hot tea which was excellent as well and I recommend to compliment your Chinese dinner. Ambiance is great as well and feels very Chinese, spacious and clean. They have quite a variety of dim sum and the quality is great which is what I love most about this place! The service here is quick, a simple 'I want one of these', stamp your card, eat, pay, and off you go. We were in and out within 30 mins, talks about fast! The food was so incredibly delicious!!! We ordered the chicken corn soup, which was okay. I've definitely had better, but it did satisfy the craving for the soup portion of our meal. It was slightly viscous, with an ample amount of chicken. It was almost too much chicken for me, but that is just a note for those who love their protein. ORDER THE LEMON CHICKEN! It was perfectly crusted and crunchy, and did not get soggy with the lemon sauce. The chicken was so succulent and tender. I seriously cannot recommend this entree enough. The plain egg fried rice was yummy. The fried wonton was crispy and not too oily. It doesn't specify on the menu, but it has a shrimp filling. The steamed sweet custard bun was also a hit. The filling was creamy and not overly sweet, and the bun was soft and fluffy. The lack of one star comes solely from the service. They really need to hire more staff, our waitress was serving pretty much all the tables on one side of the restaurant! This is simply too much work for one person as she was running around everywhere, and because of this the service we received was subpar. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in Chinatown. They open until pretty late compared to other shops/restaurants in the area, so this is a good option for a later meal (before 10PM). read more

A great experience. We decided to visit on Friday to avoid the crowds. It was still hopping at 1PM. I don't know what happened to my photos, but I just can't find them. It was funny to see the managers dressed in country garb for Stampede. We were sat quickly and noticed a mixture of dim sum carts and wait staff with trays of delectable dim sum. Everything was very fresh and there was a lot of variety. After eating what we wanted from the carts, we ordered some lotus leaf rice and our daughter wanted ginger beef. Everything was excellent. I've been searching for the cashew chicken of my youth in San Diego, and while this isn't it either, it was a damn fine chicken. It was almost crispy crusted in places with the sugary sauce and it was delicious! In texas they put zucchini in all their Chinese - so seeing green peppers and peas was a change, but a welcome one - the whole meal flowed together, and while I DID pick out most of the pieces of chicken since I'm on vacation, I took the rest home too, just in case. This is not a chicken heavy dish, but as I was alone it worked out just fine. If you're sharing with a hungry boy, you'll likely need another dish to round it out. read more

we had a lovely walk down from crescent heights, over centre st. bridge and made our way to the award winning silver dragon restaurant, a family owned, and cherished gem that's been around since 1966. nestled in the heart of chinatown, on 106 3rd avenue se and up a flight of stairs, you're greeted with a spacious setting perfect for big gatherings. we were a party of three on a thursday and showed up at around 2:15 pm. this place serves dim sum all day. i am told they still serve dim sum from traditional carts, but that's usually done during peak periods. serving cantonese and szechuan cuisine, they have an impressive menu with over 200 dishes and also had a convenient double sided laminated dim sum menu with pictures and prices. despite the warm welcome and efficient service, the dim sum was just okay. it wasn't served as piping hot as we had hoped for, but the overall experience was still pleasant. read more

Our first dinner in Calgary, and as lovers of dim sum, we walked into a awesome restaurant in Silver Dragon. Starting with the server, was absolutely amazing, and made the ordering easy, do her the hot tea as it's .50 cents, and you get water automatically, now for the meal itself. The shrimp toast, what can I say as it was just perfect, and you knew it was made fresh, and the beef curd roll had flavor throughout each bite, the chili oil enhanced the flavor, and the fresh perfectly cooked vegetable roll was crunchy, and again the chili oil took it to another level. We also had two beef dishes, short ribs great balance between chewy and tender, and the standard beef that was braised to perfection. Now here comes the star of the meal, drum roll, the custard sponge cake, oh my my this was the best, as the steam it fresh, the sponge was perfect and the layer of custard, this is a 10 on any scale, and yes we ordered one to take back to the hotel. This spot reminds me of restaurants in china. It's located on the second story of a building- but very easy to find. Dim sum was great- it's cart style when we went. If you are a fan of salt and pepper prawn- theirs was AMAZING. I would highly recommend ordering this dish if you love a flavor bomb in your mouth. Service was fast and friendly. Genuinely one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. One of the dishes we ordered was mapo tofu. The tofu was FRIED. The sauce tasted like it was one of those powders you get at the store and just add water. It was NOT spicy. Also when we got the mapo tofu, it didn't come with rice. When we asked one of the waiters if it came with rice, he said no and looked at us like we were stupid. So we ordered one SMALL serving of rice for which we were charged, which is crazy. We also ordered dim sum. We were thinking about ordering the spring rolls, but we didn't know how big they were so we asked one of the waiters. She told us to just look at the pictures in the menu. Like thanks ma'am, I didn't realize your egg rolls were about 2.5 cm long. When we got the dishes, the taste was alright. But we had to ask for soy sauce and chili oil. And when we finally got it, they only gave us one dinky little saucer's worth of soy sauce and one dinky little saucer's worth of chili oil... to split amongst 5 people. The "best" part was it wasn't even regular soy sauce, it was dark soy sauce. I'm just not sure why they're so stingy with the soy sauce. The lady in the table behind me was saying "excuse me" for like 5 minutes before she finally was able to get a waiter's attention and it turns out that she too was also looking for soy sauce and chili oil. The only thing I have to say about the ambiance is that it was interesting having employees rolling giant circular wooden tables across the floor while you're eating. Another bonus in terms of ambiance was the waiter standing over our shoulder while we were trying to calculate the tip that we wanted to leave. read more

Notes to Silver Dragon: - your website sucks... in today's world I shouldn't have to scratch my head trying to figure out how to get Ginger Beef DELIVERED. Total FAIL - I should be able to get food delivered... finally, out of desperation, I picked up. Partial fail - frankly all would be fine your food was excellent - it wasn't. The restaurant is located in the heat of Chinatown, it reminds me of the establishments I grew up with, the decor is period correct with lots of wood panel walls, golden phoenix and dragon sculptures. And an aquarium with Koi fishes. The food is also very good, serving the key staples of har gow, siu mai, hum bao, etc... all good and delicious food. Their hot and sour soup isn't even spicy. It is sweet. The fried squid with salt and pepper was not CRISPY like the ones we had in other chinese restaurants. The food was ok. Nothing fancy. I had to remind the waitress on our order outside of the Dimsum they were offering. It took them close to 25 minutes but not until I asked them about it. This is my third visit for dim sum. The restaurant was busy for a Monday morning and all the food in the carts were fresh. My favourite dishes were the har gow (shrimp dumpling), char sui bun (pork buns), bean curd with pork and shrimp, and the turnip cake. The turnip cake was served creamy and hot. The price for three people was great - way better than going for brunch in the downtown core. Pro tip - don't let the food cool too much, as dim sum is best eaten fresh. The menu is pretty extensive with dim sum available all day. Not authentic flavors as this place seem to cater to tourist crowds. It also seemed a bit overpriced for the quality of food. No wifi available and it can get loud when it gets done busy. They don't seem to have enough servers for the amount of customers when we're there during the dinner rush. read more
