Rice rolls

Our breakfast at this restaurant probably deterred us from having any Cantonese food for the rest of stay in Calgary. It's only one more day! I know. Many will ask why I would choose to eat Cantonese food in Chinatown. I usually would give the same advice too to visitors to Vancouver, too. However, when I saw all of the other half dozen dining parties being East Asians speaking either Cantonese and Mandarin and the place looking respectably clean, I had hope. I was wrong. While we were seated promptly and the menus came quickly, nobody came to take our orders until I flagged one of the 3 waitstaff down. All of them were just gathering by the counter talking to another worker making beverages behind the counter. The my were even looking around the restaurant but made no eye contact with patrons. 2 of them were engrossed in an argument. We both had the breakfast sets. My husband ordered the bolo bun with butter, turkey sausage patty and scrambled eggs and I had their congee of the day (chicken and mushroom) and rice rolls. Both sets came with beverage and we both had HK milk tea. Except for the HK milk tea, everything else was embarrassingly bad. The top of the bolo bun was soggy. My congee was bland and turned watery quickly. My rice rolls was dry and tough. The fact that they preset the lowest tipping % at 15% on the payment terminal was laughable.

Good portions and Hong Kong Cafe style, taste great and can not compare with Vancouver. Service it is what it is, went during lunchtime, lighting is bright, decorative is like cafe style, laminate signs advertising their best sellers.

came here for dinner and got their lean pork and century egg congee ($10.95). The service was not great as our server was a bit rude and the food I found was both not particularly cheap ($11 for congee) and not particularly good. The food was mediocre and service was poor. I would not come back here.

You know a place is good when you see a crowd. Visited Chinatown with a friend and we decided to pop in here for lunch. We had a total of three dishes and a complimentary bowl of soup. Food tasted good and service was quick. Definitely a must visit if you are looking for an authentic Hong Kong dining experience. Will definitely be back for sure soon!

While eating my takeout order, I bit into something hard and discovered it was a staple, not a bone as I first assumed. This is extremely concerning. If my child had eaten this, the outcome could have been dangerous. This represents a serious safety issue and should not happen.

This was the first HK style cafe I've been to in Canada and wow I've been to many in the States and this has got to be one of the top HK cafes outside of Asia I've eaten at. Portions are large, friendly staff, and the restaurant is clean. We ordered our favorites: Hainan chicken, borscht, cream mushroom soup, gailan with garlic, string beans, etc. Everything was delicious. I'd like to come back here if I ever visit Calgary again!

It's always the low expectation for a restaurant that catch you by surprise. We found this Cafe on Google since it was 10 min walk from our hotel. Little do we know, this is an authentic Hong Kong style Cafe (my fav)! Not only was the food great, it's really inexpensive! The family style 3 entrees + large homemade soup is only $58 CAN, which is about $43 USD. I also like that the servers are honest and funny. We wanted to order the Chilean Seabass in clay pot dish. She told us upfront that it will be 20 min to cook but will serve the soup right away so we can enjoy while we wait. It was definitely worth the wait. It was steaming hot and the sauce was so good. We enjoyed it with sweet & sour pork and chicken cutlet with instant noodles. The drinks are really good too. They have the coffee/milk tea combo and my all time favorite - Ice tea with lemon. It's the way they make the tea. Brought back so many memories living in Hong Kong. Highly recommend! We are looking forward to coming back for another wonderful dinner before we head home.

There aren't many Hong Kong cafes around where we live so whenever we visit the area, we always make a stop. It was quite busy when we came in for lunch, but luckily didn't have to wait for a seat. They provided large cups of hot teas, which we sipped on while combing through the large menu and narrowing down what we wanted to eat: - Borscht soup with garlic bread: The soup was okay, not really my favorite. It was a little too sweet but also kind of spicy. The garlic bread was absolutely delicious- really fluffy and so much yummy garlic butter! - Assorted beef tripe noodles in soup: My dad really enjoyed this dish because he doesn't get to eat beef tripe that often. There was a lot of assorted tripe - Beef flank noodles in clear soup: My brother wanted something a bit lighter for lunch and wanted a clear noodle soup. This was the perfect dish and the beef was very tender - Shrimp dumpling and noodles in in soup: This tastes very similar to wonton noodles... but bigger. Even though it says shrimp dumpling, the wrapping is more similar to wontons that dumplings. However they were huge and had so much shrimp, I really enjoyed it! Always a good experience dining here!

A visit to Calgary's Chinatown just isn't complete without a stop to Calgary Court. Great value for Cantonese cuisine in a modern and busy setting full of regulars and newcomers. The menu has all the bangers you'd expect from a good Chinese diner.

Iced Honey Lemon Tea

On our way back from Banff, we drove through Calgary and were craving something Asian. We wanted to try a HK café and found Calgary Court Restaurant and ordered: -Baked Chicken and Ham with Spaghetti in Cream Sauce - a bit too cremey; would recommend tomato sauce next time -Baked Pork Chop with Rice in Tomato Sauce - would reorder! -Green Beans with Pork - interestingly had shrimp in it; the shrimp flavor was a bit overpowering but not in a bad way if you like shrimp The meal came with complimentary tea but I splurged on upgrading to Iced Honey Lemon Tea because it's a HK cafe staple. The restaurant was clean and had ample indoor (only) seating for small to large (up to 6) people groups. Bathroom was by the entrance with a code lock. Since we came on a weekday during work hours there was street parking but any other time I would expect it to be difficult to find parking. I'll be back next time I'm in the area!

Service and food delivery is quick. Good portions. Authentic Chinese. Simple menu choice for breakfast with variety of noodles, rice and meats. Would go again.

Hai Nan chicken rice combo. Salt chicken. Shrimp circle tofu. Beef daikon casserole.
Lunas B.

Taste beyond expectations. The only thing is the Hai nan chicken dish chicken portion was a bit small and the rice is under cooked.

After we left the Prince's island park, we realized chinatown is nearby so we decided to check it out, it was lunch time so we picked this place to have lunch. The Hainan Chicken fried rice is disappointing the quantity is so small, although the chicken was really tender, but the size is way too small. I understand that everything is expensive these days but I don't mind to pay bit more to get more food, 7 slices of chicken is really pathetic.

A friend invited me to this restaurant. He explained that they have serious, authentic Szechwan fare, but would choose things that even a lao wai like myself could enjoy. Not gonna lie, there was some _heat_, but the flavours were more than worth it. I was probably the only pale guy in the place, which is often a good sign for a Chinese restaurant. The place was very busy, but the staff was incredibly thoughtful. The service was excellent and the food arrived rapidly. I shouldn't say "food". It was a Feast. Everything was cooked to perfection and simply delicious. My only warning (apart from listen to them when they say, "spicy") is that it is authentic. Some dishes will have the bones in. Some might have elements that you're not supposed to eat. Just like many European dishes don't intend for you to eat the whole cloves or peppercorns. If you don't have a native guide, just let the staff know. Judging from my own experiences, they'll treat you right.

Silver Dragon offers a unique experience having some dishes not carried in the united States. And the prices were cheap. Everything is moving fast too especially with a group the knows what they want. I think it made it confusing to the cart ladies trying to listen to everyone speaking at the same time but they provided correct answers. Everything was well done and presented. We got shrimp and pork shumai, pork buns, baked pork buns, egg custards, short ribs, etc. All in all we picked up about 20 dishes. That came to about $200 Canadian dollars, about $137 American dollars. With prices like that the thought of moving to Canada is real. However, the cold winter snow prevents me entertaining that thought at length.

I'm not sure why. The siu mai was mushy. The har gow was okay. The beef rice noodle roll was tasteless. My wife didn't like it. The tofu skin roll (sin jook goon) was not very good either. We only ordered 4 dishes because what we ordered was not good. We didn't want to order anything else. The worst dimsum place in the San Gabriel Valley is better than this place. Not a fan of this place. They might be better for dinner? Non dimsum? Service was better than the food.

Unbeatable prices. Seriously, how is the food so cheap?! They offer 2 or 3 different discounts…read moreincluding 10% off pickup, discounted items over a certain amount, set menus... Ok so the food is super cheap.. BUT ALSO, THE FOOD WAS ACTUALLY IMPRESSIVE TOO???? NOT TOO OILY, NOT TOO SALTY, GOOD AMOUNT OF SPICY HEAT, fried food actually crunchy. I really appreciated all of the above. I know the food probably isn't healthy still, but I hate when restaurant food has a puddle of oil. The noodles were a bit stuck together because of the lack of oil. Maybe this is why the squid was so crunchy too? The guy serving us in the front said his mom was cooking in the back. She's like she really cares about her customers and making sure they eat a bit more healthy, and of course, tasty food. Each dish had a good mix of veg and meat. They are NOT stingy on meat or veg. We also got the mapo tofu and it was better than t&t. Again, another thing I liked was how the mapo tofu sauce wasn't loaded with starch. In fact, I don't think there was any (along with any sugar) because the sauce was all watery in texture. Flavour and spice was perfect. Something unique about it was that it had a bunch of green peas. I know some people don't like peas. Lol. Overall, this place is genuinely good which is surprising given the insanely low prices. The staff is really nice and chill. I highly reccomend this place for takeout if you're looking for something low-key at home. Ps. There's no seating inside. This is purely a Chinese takeout joint. They have chairs inside if you're waiting for your food.
