Have no idea why this dim sum restaurant is called u&me but it's cute! Located in Calgary's Chinatown, it's a busy establishment that seems beloved by its community. It's easy to order since everything is translated on the menu and there are plenty of pictures for reference. No need for canto in this joint! The portions are pretty huge so be careful not to order too much, especially if you're coming from out of town and find it difficult to store leftovers. Everything was filling and service was quick and brusque, as you might expect for a dim sum place. The only downside is that there is no free parking available anywhere nearby, so you probably have to pay hourly for a street spot. There might be an easy way to get here by public transport and/or you can always use ride share. Overall, I was satisfied with what I ordered here and can see myself coming back. read more

Family came here after a full day at Stampede. It's one of the few places that is still open after 9pm which was a good thing as the family was famished. We had walked from the Stampede grounds to this restaurant. The restaurant is in the heart of Chinatown and on an upper floor. The place was bustling on this day and the decor was very nice. We were seated promptly. Family really enjoyed the food. The menu is quite extensive and they even have some dim sum dishes that you can still order late night which the family loved. We had the Crab Meat Fish Maw Soup (one of the kids favourites) and it did not disappoint. We also got Egg plan Salted fish, BBQ pork, Har Gow, Siu Mai, and Sticky rice. All the food was great - came out hot and tasty. We couldn't eat all the food and so had to get a togo container which costs $0.25 each. Service was good on this day although the place was busy. Christmas Day and the entire staff is working hard. All of the dishes come hot straight from the kitchen. Plenty of seating as we were sat to the table within 5 minutes of checkin in. Our last night in Calgary would not be complete until a family dinner at U&Me. We have not been here for a few years, and couldn't wait to return. We made reservations the night before due to the size of our family, once we arrived they were ready for us, and perfect seating. We ordered our drinks quickly and our server perfectly explained the preset meals for parties of ten which worked perfectly. The lemon chicken was just awesome, along with the beef and broccoli, and the calamari oh wow, definitely in our top, that with the egg custard buns was just over the top. Good Chinese food and decent prices, open crazy late also. Came in here cause we were looking for somewhere still open for dinner after arriving from YYC airport. Portions are more than enough and you can ask for rice and they fill them up really big. The ladies working there are friendly and sweet. They even asked if we were full while collecting our plates when we were done eating. I saw another table celebrating a birthday and one of the ladies even sang them the traditional Cantonese birthday song. Recommend this place! Stopped by Chinatown for some dim sum-unassuming front (thought I was in the wrong place), and three sections of stairs (no elevator!) to get up to the restaurant. This isn't a cart establishment, so you order a la carte on a notepad. Food comes pretty fast, veggie dumplings were my favorite by far, followed by the steamed short ribs. Otherwise, large portions, and pretty meaty, but needs more seasoning. Card requires $30 charge or up, and they have an ATM to withdraw cash for a $1 fee if you need it. read more

Disappointed with the xiao long baos, not sure if I just have Taiwan standards but it really wasn't great in my opinion. I'd say a solid 3/5. The rest of the food was hard to mess up and tasted authentic enough but not amazing. I'd say 3.5-4/5 for the rest of the food. Might help to note that the chicken was cooked well, and was not dry. Service was great but also maybe because I'm used to Chinese restaurants/ servers, can speak and know the culture. Maybe to a typical Westerner, servers might come off as snobbish? Ambiance was actually cute, I like the lazy Susan set up and the chairs that went with it. I was researching late night bites to eat near our hotel in Calgary and this dim sum placed pulled up. They open until 4AM! The restaurant is upstairs and looks like there are a lot of seating. You order the dim sum with a paper and give it to the server. They are fast and efficient. I've had better dim sum but this place still hit the spot on a cold rainy day. They sell out of things fast, so be prepared to not be disappointed and have other options ready. I wish they had beef rice rolls, but those are not on the menu. I liked their shumai. U&Me has become a huge disappointment. Although I do not expect perfection in take away nor delivery dim sum, I expect it to be made properly and accompanied by the requisite condiments. The Ha Cheung was rolled empty soggy rice noodle with shrimp dumped on top instead of inside. The Har Gow, and Fun Guo, although made properly, had none of the dipping condiments provided by a good dim sum house, such as T.Pot or Silver Dragon. I ordered Kung Pao Chicken but it was anything but. Real Kung Pao is an authentic Sichuan dish. IT IS NEVER BREADED AND DEEP FRIED. The crap that U&Me sent me was a disaster. However, I should have known better and stuck to Cantonese fare, which when U&Me gets it right, they get it very right. This is happening less often and will be seeking my Cantonese cravings elsewhere. read more

Great restaurant of dim sum, it was recommended by a couple of friendly youngsters from the Chinese cultural center. We went there a couple of times and totally satisfied, best were shrimp dumplings, stuffed four treasures, meat balls and shrimp fried rice. Friendly staff and nice ambiance. I would rather have written a food review but unfortunately that's impossible when you cannot even get your order taken after waiting over 30 minutes! Too bad, since this was to be our first experience with dim sum and the food that we did see looked and smelled delicious. The restaurant was a little busy but not all tables were occupied so we were seated quickly with menus and a pot of tea. All seemed well... However, after 30 minutes of watching the one server in our section serve the table next to us at least 4 different times and watch 3 other tables leave - which she proceeded to clean and re-set, still no one even looked in our direction. 2 more tables came in, were seated and placed their orders - so we got up and left. Dined here with my family last Friday, 9/13. The restaurant was packed when we arrived which I took to be a good sign. After we were seated, we were given 2 menus for a group of 5 people. Since we were hurried into giving our order, we didn't really know what specific dishes came with our set meal: dinner for 4. We also got duck. As we were eating, we were rudely interrupted when our server started reprimanding the lady who brought our food out. They were speaking in a foreign language so we understood none of it, but, we deduced that it couldn't have been good because of her tone. We were in shock after she reached over to our table and took 2 dishes away without a word of warning or explanation to us. When they left, we assumed that the lady had mistakenly brought us another customer's order. Sure enough, after a few minutes, the same 2 dishes were brought out to the table next to us. We were appalled that they took the food even after we started eating. I don't know if they threw them away or what, but there was definitely not enough time for them to have prepared a new batch in that short time frame. We would never dine here again nor would we ever recommend anyone to go to this establishment. The food was typical Chinese food. There was nothing remarkable about it. We actually tried going to 3 other dim sum places before coming here for a late lunch. Two were closed and one would not let us in due to one person in our party not having a govt picture ID on top of their pictured vaccine card. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as we ended up at U & Me. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting in this second floor restaurant with windows overlooking the street below. Our waitress was super sweet. The dim sum was fresh and absolutely delicious. We ordered a lot of different things and everything was really good, with generous portions. The total bill for 13 dim sum items was $80 Canadian, so not a lot for a significant amount of food. Dim sum in Calgary is actually delicious! We came around 11am and it was really packed already. It is advised to get a reservation as they're really popular amongst the local and tourist. We ordered the curry cuttlefish, chicken feet and spare ribs pot rice, shrimp rice roll, siu mai, tripe and bean curd roll. The rice roll was super soft and more clear than I normally have it but delicious nonetheless. Everything came out relatively fast and tasted great! I recommend the larger dishes over the dim sum. The bigger dishes were more tasty and presentable. They offer generous portions. We ordered: XO fried turnip cake, sale & pepper squid, beef Ho fun noodles, and gai lan vegetables. Quality of their dim sum is average. We found that the steamed pork and peanut dumpling (fun guo), steamed mushroom dumpling, steamed shrimp (hao gow) dumplings, the outer rice flour shell was very thick. The fillings of the dumplings were tasty though. The baked BBQ pork pastry's filling tasted a bit artificial, the sugary sweetness overpowered the BBQ pork flavour. Chinese donut was notable, it was deep fried to the right colour, did not taste or feel greasy. Good combination for the congee. However the congee is a little over priced.. $9.00 for small and $19.00 for a large? It doesn't really require a lot of effort to make congee imo. read more

5 diners, midnight start time with one objective: sample as many authentic Chinese dishes possible before maximum stomach capacity exceeded. I confess I had someone who spoke Mandarin and another who has spent time in Asia among my party. They did the ordering. However, it would not be difficult to order from the extensive menu. Dim sum and more traditional choices abound and we did not have one bad dish, though some linger on the memory palate more than others. This is inexpensive and feels like eating at one of your Friend's houses and their Mom keeps affectionately plying you with food. Rare service at this price point! A great sense of humour was also present in the staff when we went. There was enough food to eat beyond satisfaction and for us all to have take-home containers. read more

I'm not the biggest dim sum expert (yet!) but boy do I love going out for dim sum with those that are. I'm not a morning person, especially on the weekends, but a friend told me that this place has half price dim sum before 11am. Yep. We arrived at around 10am on a Saturday morning and the place was only about half full. It did take a little while to flag someone down when we were ready to order, but they told us what each dish was when serving it and promptly brought out more tea each time we emptied the pot (turn the lid upside down!). My top pics: shrimp and pork dumplings, shrimp stuffed eggplant, sticky rice in lotus leaf and steamed sweet cream cake. We ordered two items each, which was the perfect size for our group of five - plus an extra serve of the steamed sweet cream cake (trust me). The best part? They currently have breakfast specials with $2.99 congee and small portions of different kinds of meats on rice for $3.99. The congee is flavorful and for $2.99 you can't go wrong. Where have you been all my life? Ok admittedly this is my fault as I had only been at 3am once before for some very tasty late night eating. I had zero idea they did such great dim sum. 1. before 11am all their dim sum is $4 an order even on weekends! 2. they take reservations 3. they have dim sum all day everyday Whats not to love! We ordered so much food it was unreal. That being said in our defense I feel like a lot of the portions were bigger than normal. There were 6 shanghai soup dumplings in an order for example. A lot of the typical 3 in an order dim sums actually came with 4. Lovely surprise. We tried the following and has multiple orders of most dishes: steamed shrimp dumplings, steamed shrimp and pork dumplings, baked egg tarts, steamed garlic spare ribs, steamed egg yolk buns, pan fried taro root cake, pan fried turnip cakes, baked bbq pork buns, steamed shanghai style dumplings, steamed bbq pork buns, steamed sweet cream buns, chinese doughnut in rice roll, spinach with beef in rice roll, steamed cuttlefish in curry sauce, deep fried shrimp spring roll, steamed sticky rice in lotus leaf, stuffed dim sum in black bean sauce (shrimp stuffed in veggies), shrimp stuffed whole eggplant, pan fried beef curry dumpling things (off special menu) and pan fried fish cakes. Holy goodness that was so much food even for 11 people! Wish I had taken a pic of our receipt as it went on for days. At the end though it came to $21 each including tip and we had to take some left overs with as we rolled out the door. Definitely best value for money before 11am. Made a reservation no problem for a Saturday morning and they didn't seem to care if we had a minimum amount of people. Would easily be 5 stars except that we couldn't order anything other than dim sum before 11am. Makes sense with the discount but really wanted some noodle and veg dishes. U & Me ranges from three to four stars, depending on when you go. The best time to go is around noon on weekdays and weekends. The worst time to go is late at night, such as 1AM. I think the more experienced cook works at peak times. My experience is always better when I go with friends who know the owner. There is one dish that is just fantastic and not served at many other places. It's a deep-fried radish dim sum dish. There are layers and layers of soft, fatty goodness encased in this melt in your mouth pastry casing. The flavour is so unique too... its hard to describe. read more

Took a drive from the Sheraton into downtown Calgary where there's a Chinatown. My dad found this place before the trip, but didn't end up liking it. I thought the food was decent. We got egg pancake with oysters, oyster congee, sweet and sour pork with fried milk, fried eggplant, and fish. We ordered two beers and four mango jelly slushes. I'll be completely honest, I've never been here before 12am, and I've never been here completely sober. That being said, some of the best dim sum I've ever had. Service is always quick, the food is always hot (or cold) and I've only ever been told they were out of something once. Even at 12:43am (the time I'm here now), the very large dining room is over half full and everyone looks happy. For late night dim sum you can't go wrong, give U&Me a try. read more
