This restaurant in Calgary's Chinatown was highly recommended by a family member, and they were…read moreabsolutely right. We had been eating overly heavy dinners over the past few days, so we decided to be relatively gentle with our order this time. Here is a breakdown of what we tried: Xiao Long Bao (小籠包 - Soup Dumplings): This is my daughter's favorite, so we ordered two baskets for her. They were executed beautifully. They were well-steamed on a clean sheet, and thankfully, there was no grayish blood seeping out of the meat. The wrapper (麵 皮) was right on the spot--not too hard or soft, not too thick or thin, and it didn't have that rubbery "chewing gum" or mushy "play dough" texture you get at lesser places. The pork filling tasted clean with no funky pork smell. Very nice. Beef and Tendon Noodle Soup: This was just okay, but to be fair, I don't expect a flawless bowl of beef noodle soup from a restaurant that doesn't strictly specialize in it (especially at a Dim Sum-focused spot). The broth was a bit plain and served lukewarm. The tendon, however, was well-cooked and well-marinated with a pleasant taste; it was a bit on the firmer side, which didn't bother me. The noodles were on the softer, sparser side rather than dense and chewy. I personally prefer a firmer noodle, but again, I can't complain too much given the venue. Spicy Tofu and Preserved Egg (麻辣皮蛋豆腐): I really liked this dish. The tofu had a fantastic, fresh soy taste, the preserved egg was delicious, and the chili oil and soy sauce dressing was perfectly balanced. If you are wondering what these "black eggs" are and feel a bit hesitant or concerned about trying them, I highly recommend giving them a shot here. This dish will easily fix those concerns! Overall, it was a great meal. I will definitely return, and next time we have the appetite, I'll dive deeper into the dishes they truly specialize in.

It is located in the suburbs and a bit far from the actual Calgary Chinatown, but it came with ample parking and prices with the high quality food were simply unbeatable (Small: 5.95, Medium: 6.75, Large: 7.35 CAD). No carts, but dim sum is served all the way up to 3pm. We came just before 2pm and were seated immediately. The restaurant was huge and very easy-going at this particular time. We ordered the classics off a paper slip -- shrimp rice roll, siumai, har gow, turnip cake, ham sui gok, etc. -- and were blown away at the portion size which were on the larger end of the spectrum. They certainly do not skimp on the filling. For instance, the siumai and har gow contained very plumply-sized shrimp. Flavor was spot on as well. The hot tea was complimentary which is unusual from my parts. When we finished ordering, they even brought out a complimentary dessert which was a slightly sweet agar type thing. What a great end to a short and sweet visit to Calgary! We even had so much food to take back through airport security. The parents were much pleased with the leftovers.

Ok so the food is super cheap.. BUT ALSO, THE FOOD WAS ACTUALLY IMPRESSIVE TOO???? NOT TOO OILY, NOT TOO SALTY, GOOD AMOUNT OF SPICY HEAT, fried food actually crunchy. I really appreciated all of the above. I know the food probably isn't healthy still, but I hate when restaurant food has a puddle of oil. The noodles were a bit stuck together because of the lack of oil. Maybe this is why the squid was so crunchy too? The guy serving us in the front said his mom was cooking in the back. She's like she really cares about her customers and making sure they eat a bit more healthy, and of course, tasty food. Each dish had a good mix of veg and meat. They are NOT stingy on meat or veg. We also got the mapo tofu and it was better than t&t. Again, another thing I liked was how the mapo tofu sauce wasn't loaded with starch. In fact, I don't think there was any (along with any sugar) because the sauce was all watery in texture. Flavour and spice was perfect. Something unique about it was that it had a bunch of green peas. I know some people don't like peas. Lol. Overall, this place is genuinely good which is surprising given the insanely low prices. The staff is really nice and chill. I highly reccomend this place for takeout if you're looking for something low-key at home. Ps. There's no seating inside. This is purely a Chinese takeout joint. They have chairs inside if you're waiting for your food.

Overall, I was happy with the value. We also ordered the juicy pork dumplings, which were okay and reasonably priced at around $10, if I remember correctly. My sister said the price was for ordering it after 3pm. For dessert, the restaurant served us red bean soup, and I also asked for some fortune cookies. We were all happy with both the food and the service. Our server, Andrew, was great! Parking was easy, too, since the restaurant is located in a strip mall with a large parking lot.
