We bought an amazing midcentury style credenza. It looks great in our living room and is the perfect piece for the room, and thanks to a Veterans Day sale, at an unbelievable price. Unfortunately, Ashley provided such a terrible shopping experience that I'd never go back.
First, when we went in to browse Saturday 11/10, the salesperson who greeted us at the front proceeded to follow us around the store, despite our saying "No thanks, we're just browsing." He didn't do it in a way that was unobtrusive, although he was clearly trying to be stealthy. If he had just said "Hey, we're supposed to help any customer we greet and stay with them to answer any questions. If you need me just give a shout, I'll be nearby." it would have been fine. Instead, I would turn around and he would be standing nearby pretending to look at his phone or a clipboard or whatever. It started out as a bit of a joke, with me saying to the wife in a stage whisper "I think he's following us!" but then as we made it further into the store it just got creepy, and pretty annoying. So much so, that although we loved the credenza we eventually bought, we decided that we were going to call and order over the phone, rather than give him the sale.
So that afternoon my wife calls up to place the order, and first is told to call back because they're too busy to help. Like, dude, we're trying to give you hundreds of dollars. Put someone on the GD phone. But we really liked the piece, so she calls back and is put on the phone with three different people before someone finally takes all her information, including her credit card number, and says she'll receive a receipt.
So we wait a couple of days, and no receipt shows up, she checks her credit card statement, there's no hold from Ashley, and the sale is ending at COB that day, so she calls them. Again she's put on hold, passed around, put on hold, and finally decides that she's going to call back.
A few hours later she calls back, finds that the order hadn't been placed before, goes through the whole thing again, but this time it shows up on her credit card statement. The item isn't in stock but should be by next weekend, and we'll be given a call to schedule a pick up when they know what the arrival date will be.
Fast forward to Friday. Still no receipt, so we call to find out if they know when it will be arriving. Turns out it came in on Wednesday, and they had down that we would be picking up Wednesday and why hadn't we shown up? Trying to schedule the pick up for Saturday, and coordinate with the person who's truck we'd be using took another whole rigamarole of multiple calls, multiple holds, etc.
Finally, we got it on Saturday, and after being told that the only assembly required was to attach the legs, we opened the box to discover a bunch of knockdown pieces that need to be entirely assembled. It took about an hour and a half, for something we were told takes "maybe 20 minutes".
This was one of the most disappointing shopping experiences I've ever had. Terrible in store service, terrible phone service, and sales people who apparently don't know anything about the product they are selling. One star is really generous. read more
