My husband found a great deal on Groupon for a 90 minute, hot stone, deep tissue massage so we made an appointment for a Friday afternoon with a couple of days notice. Before heading there, I couldn't find much info so here is a recap:
-We tried to find pricing online so we would know how much to tip (Groupon listed prices are usually higher) but couldn't find any and could not find the listed price for our service at the spa either.
-When making our appointment, we requested separate massage rooms bc we (really I) get distracted when there is another person with me. We arrived a few minutes late so they ushered us into a couple's room so since we were late and there was a language barrier we just went with it.
-They asked if we wanted medium or soft, we both chose medium but it was more like a hard pressure which was more therapeutic than relaxing but it was definitely effective so I was pleased with it. -Most of the service was focused on the back which is my preference but my husband was surprised when the massage ended a few minutes after they asked us to flip over.
-As expected, we did get distracted when they used the wooden roller/tools on our muscles bc we weren't on the same schedule.
-At some point someone called or rang the doorbell and one of the masseuses left the room. Weird, also not really okay if someone is paying for your time.
- I had asked my husband to ask them for listed prices but he asked for a brochure instead (idk?) and they told him they didn't have one. So when we left, he handed me 60$ cash for tip and I didn't really pay attention but we double tipped -- totally his fault but I would have appreciated if they would have made sure we knew the price of the service. We would have still given the same tip but the acknowledgment would have been nice.
Overall, the massage was effective, the Groupon price was good, but since I am not a fan of places that aren't clear about their pricing and/or don't have posted prices - I likely won't be back. But if you're interested in a cheap, therapeutic, no frills massage, it's worth a shot. Just make sure to ask any questions up front. read more
