These idiots installed a chain and didn't adjust the drive train at all. Mechanic should be fired for being rude and bitter.

So I read a prior review of someone who drove from the SF Bay Area to pick up a bike from these…read morefolks, and can concur - great experience! I was trying to pick up a couple of Specialized Turbo Kenevo bikes and most everywhere was out-of-stock because of the big sale they were having ($9000 MSRP down to $5800). Eventually did get what I wanted - but could only have them delivered and was shopping around for a great shop to set them up, test ride and go. Well, found the folks at Siskiyou Cyclery. Usually I'm heading further north to Medford, but the plan was to also enjoy Oregon and take a visit to Crater Lake. These folks are conveniently located near middle of Ashland. They're on a main road so you will have an easy time finding them (and turning around if you miss). Parking is nice - there's two spots on the road in front of the shop, parking in the back and next door parking if you have a larger vehicle as well. Inside, it's a bike shop. Nothing fancy. What is nice is that while I was waiting, I saw one mom bring her kids (6?) bike in because of a flat. I saw another guy just wander in needing a derailleur. Very low-key and friendly in terms of "sure, drop it off and come back this afternoon" and no, I didn't feel I was being blown off while they got those folks in and out. When I was picking up the Kenevo's, engaged in light conversation and they knew their stuff. "What is the bottom bracket of the e-bike?" or "what is the largest chain ring I can run?" plus they got into the conversation of what e-bike rules are locally, which varies crazily for USDA and USFS along NP land. Grabbed a bike, after it being set up and went for a quick ride. You can go right out the door, and then right again to head towards Starbucks. You can stay on that same road the shop is on for a long and level ride. You can go straight out and head up some minor inclines (not 10 ring stuff, but middle cog, haha) Paperwork was easy, in and out basically. You're not going to be stuck there while they treat you like a baby explaining how the dropper seat post works, or how to charge up your e-bike - unless you want to be. Overall, because "Oregon" and "Ashland" convenience, this is a great shop to stop by, get repairs or parts, and enjoy the Ashland scenery!

Just went by today. It is absolutely, completely closed, no matter what AI may tell you. All…read moresignage is down & another business is operating there. It was a good shop with good mechanics, and a good place to buy a bike. Sadly, it's no more.

Flywheel has everything you could ever ask from a local bike shop. Yes, they stock and sell great…read morebrands (Felt, Salsa, Surly, DeSalvo, Land Shark, Yamaha Electric...) Ian and Peter provide expert, fast-turnaround service. They have a good stock and access to top brands of parts, accessories, and clothing. But Flywheel is more than that. They are the hub of the biking community in the Rogue Valley. They have up to seven local microbrews on tap, so you can relax at the counter, watch you bike being repaired, and share stories with other local riders. Every Wednesday night from 5-8pm, they host a local food truck, so you can meet up with friends (and make new ones) while you eat and enjoy beer, wine, or soda on their hop-garden patio. Learn about the Flywheel-supported events. Meet their sponsored riders. Make it your ride destination. They support all styles of cycling: road, gravel, cyclocross, adventure, cross-country, downhill, all-mountain, electric. They even installed solar panels and will soon add e-bike charging stations. From novice e-bikers to semi-pro enduro riders, everybody is welcome. I bought an endurance bike there the day I arrived in town. Just this week, I picked up hard tail mountain bike for fire road rides. The bikes are perfect for me with the help of Flywheel's recommendations. I won't get them serviced anywhere else. Even if you're not quite ready to buy a bike, come on down, have a beer, and engage with the community - especially on food truck nights. It's more than a bike shop. It's a destination.

I was looking for a road bike, and went to REI first. They had something that was sort of what I…read morewanted; essentially, it could've worked. An employee came over to help as I was looking it over, and the first thing she asked was if I was an REI member. No, not now, and not likely ever. So on top of that ever-annoying pitch, what convinced me to go elsewhere was this ridiculous declaration -- REI doesn't install pedals on their bikes. This way, you can customize it. While this makes sense on a high-end bike, on a low-end entry-level it makes no sense at all. Not putting even cheap aluminum pedals on an entry-level bike is dumb. But this isn't an REI review ... So off I went to Bear Creek. No one pestered me with a membership. No one pestered me, period. The gentleman in there working asked what I was looking for, showed me what they had, and left me to look things over. He then proceeded to offer a great price on a similar (but better) bike than REI's (it even came with pedals AND toe clips/straps). Needless to say, he made the sale. He then proceeded to spend the next half hour fitting, adjusting, and accessorizing the bike for me. He's pretty much made a loyal customer of me. What was even more amazing is that the employee apparently did all this off the clock -- he was just in there picking up some things of his. To do all that to help a customer is pretty amazing to me. File this under reason #1434 why you should always patronize the local bike shop as opposed to the chain store.

Great service, best bike shop in town. Sometimes there is a dog in there, he is so sweet.read more
