CARELESS SERVICE WITH TOTAL DISRESPECT OF CUSTOMER'S TIME & SNOTTY ATTITUDE ALSO THEIR "FREE" ONE-TIME TUNE-UP IS A SCAM Bought a brand new bike from here and they promised me a free tune-up and said to bring it in after a month for that "free" tune-up. Brought it in the other day and I had collected a list of 4 items that were tune-up related that were really out of tune. Turned my bike to a British sounding gentleman which I thought might be the owner, I texted him my list of tune-up related issues and he showed me the phone and said "Got it, we'll take care of it", I even explained to him each of the following items directly to him in person: * Something is rubbing in front fender area especially when riding & steering, the harder I steer the more rubbing sound * I feel a click noise / feeling coming from left pedal when actively pedaling, with every pedal swing I hear/feel that click, does not happen from right pedal. * Last 7th speed a little harder to get into compared to the rest, not sure if that's normal. * Rear fender makes noisy vibration sound when riding over slightly imperfect pavement whereas fender in front is nearly perfectly silent. Picked up the bike from them today, there was a young guy there flirting with a customer or something, he paid attention to me just enough to hand me the bike. I told him "I can't really see if everything is fixed because the road here is extremely noisy but I'm sure you took care of everything" To which he said "Uhmmm, I don't know anything about any of the issues you're talking about, I just followed the standard free-tune up checklist" One of the issues didn't require a quiet road to test on which was the 7th speed issue, I asked him "Is it normal for it to have a harder time getting into 7th? He basically told me in a fancy way that the bike is a low cost bike and they don't make them as good, this is a $700 bike he's talking about, then he admitted that he didn't really remember the issue because again he didn't even have the list that I texted to the British sounding guy I dropped it off to. So basically these people had me drive 30 minutes all the way to the shop and back TWICE and didn't fix any of my issues and apparently didn't care one bit because it was a free "tune-up", why even offer a free tune-up if you'll completely IGNORE the customer and not do anything at all with the tune-up focus items the customer gives you. I gave them a full detailed written up list and they just carelessly trashed it apparently, so I feel like it's a SCAM to offer people a free-tune up if they buy a bike but they don't actually do anything during the tune-up. Will never take my bike here again and will never buy a bike from here again. read more

Appointment only at this time for a tune up so plan ahead. John was easy to work with, listened to the problems that I had been having with my bike and delivered on the repairs. It rides so much better now! He was intuitive with some additional improvements that I needed to make for a better riding experience. I wouldn't hesitate to come back for more fixes or to even buy a bike in the future. read more

I don't know what it is about these guys and their attitudes. I've checked this bike shop out a couple times since we tragically lost Flywheel in the Talent fires, but they act like I'm bothering them the moment I walk in. I just stopped in to get something. There were no other customers and just one guy working. He looked at me but didn't say hello or greet me in any way. I said how you doing and was going to put my wheel up on the counter. The only thing he said was to bark at me to not put my wheel up on the counter. I got the spoke I needed (the reason for the second star) and he never said thank you, see you later. Nothing! Get another job if you hate it there so badly. To the owner, try getting your staff to be friendly. We're all in the same community and we're all bike riders. It would be nice to have a bike shop that I looked forward to going into. I'll keep looking until Ian rebuilds! read more

I was looking for a road bike, and went to REI first. They had something that was sort of what I wanted; essentially, it could've worked. An employee came over to help as I was looking it over, and the first thing she asked was if I was an REI member. No, not now, and not likely ever. So on top of that ever-annoying pitch, what convinced me to go elsewhere was this ridiculous declaration -- REI doesn't install pedals on their bikes. This way, you can customize it. While this makes sense on a high-end bike, on a low-end entry-level it makes no sense at all. Not putting even cheap aluminum pedals on an entry-level bike is dumb. But this isn't an REI review ... So off I went to Bear Creek. No one pestered me with a membership. No one pestered me, period. The gentleman in there working asked what I was looking for, showed me what they had, and left me to look things over. He then proceeded to offer a great price on a similar (but better) bike than REI's (it even came with pedals AND toe clips/straps). Needless to say, he made the sale. He then proceeded to spend the next half hour fitting, adjusting, and accessorizing the bike for me. He's pretty much made a loyal customer of me. What was even more amazing is that the employee apparently did all this off the clock -- he was just in there picking up some things of his. To do all that to help a customer is pretty amazing to me. File this under reason #1434 why you should always patronize the local bike shop as opposed to the chain store. read more

Awesome bike shop! I've been there 3 times now and have always had great experience. th guys in the shop are very friendly and don't have that pretentious attitude you get in most bike shops. I brought my wheels in to be trued today and mentioned I needed them Same day if possible. Sure enough i got a call that they were done and ready to be picked up. There' no doubt in my mind that I will be both purchasing my next bike there and having all my bikes maintained by them. read more

Gave them a second try after the first rude experience a year ago... I had heard such great things about this place, thought they deserved a second try; but I was treated more rudely my 2nd time there than the first time. Be prepared to be treated like a king and be complimented if you are there to make a large purchase, but if you need something small, they don't want you wasting their time. So unfriendly and rude about trying to buy something small, mind you this was a sales person and the owner. So disapointing. If you like car salesman, unfriendliness and discrimination, you'll like Bear Creek Bikes... we'll be getting our MTB family of 3's bike service elsewhere. read more

We had a very different experience from the earlier posters here. My husband and I bought two bikes and my husband had his handlebars replaced with wider bars and we both bought fenders. We live 2.5 hours from the shop so we left them there for the installation of the accessories and picked them up a week later. When we picked up our bikes I noticed a small chip in mine and mentioned it - they said they could get us touch up paint from the manufacturer but they would have to order it. They were both distracted with other customers and seemed anxious to get us out of the shop. They never offered to fit the bikes to us - they just gave them to us and got busy with the other customers. We were excited to get our bikes so we did not push the issues and left for home. When we got home we noticed that my husband's cable was way too tight, especially when turning. They had never mentioned to us that we should get a longer cable which we would have readily paid for. We were going on a trip with our bikes soon after so we called to arrange a stop through there to get it fixed and he acted extremely annoyed and tried to convince us it was fine the way it was. We also asked when the touch up paint would be available and he told us - Oh they don't make touch up paint. I think as a certified dealer they would have known that before they sent us home initially. Bottom Line - Our friends liked our bikes so much they are going to buy the same bikes and we told them they should look at going to Eugene or Portland but definitely do not go to Bear Creek. read more

Had a flat on Bear Creek Greenway. Bear Creek Bike fixed it in no time flat. Highly recommended.

I went there the evening before the "Ashland Enduro" race as my brake was not working - 5 min. before they were about to close on a friday eve. The guys provided exceptional service - bled the brake, added new brake pads, saw that my derailleur needed a fix too. I wish I could give them 6 stars. Nice guys to talk to, awesome professional service. I wish more bike shops where like this. Chapeau ! read more

The courteous and highly knowledgeable staff will be the first thing you recognize when you walk into this bike shop. I had a flat tire and needed it changed asap and told the 'bike guy' I'd return later that day. He immediately insisted on changing my tire at that moment and stopped what he was doing and changed my tire. The shop appeared to me to be busy and because of my traveling schedule, the courteous staff assisted me immediately. I really appreciated it, too. As my bike was being repaired, I noticed the high quality bicycles and assured myself this will be the place I come next to purchase my next bike. The tube and labor came to $16. The shop is super clean, organized, and the staff is awesome. read more

I was in the bike shop on July 14, 2015. I was on vacation and as I often do, I wanted to see what types of gear bike shops have that my bike shops in Texas may not have. I found a really nice hydration pack for cycling that was a much better fit than the one I currently had. I also got some new cycling shorts, since my old ones are full of holes and worn out. Really great prices and i felt the value at the cash register. What I enjoyed the most was that they let me look and try on the gear and they gave me first hand knowledge on riding bikes in the local area. They even gave me some information on beaches in the area. Plenty of parking and easy to get to. If you bike or want to bike and are in the area, I suggest you give them a try. Tony G. read more

These guys are great! I rented a bike on my recent trip and go not only a very good bike but excellent route advice. I told them what types of rides I like and within 5 minutes Kyle (I think I got that right) had mapped out a perfect ride for me. It was superb. I cannot, in good conscience recommend this bike shop to anyone who would patronize their business, expecting good service or welcoming treatment as a customer. My experience with them was simply unsatisfactory and left a lasting impression with me. I took a bicycle to them for a hydraulic brake line repair which should have taken 15 to 20 minutes to complete. When I asked if they could conduct this repair, they responded with what can only be described as contempt. My request was to have the bike repaired and operational within the next two hours in order to catch a mountain shuttle. I asked if this was possible and indicated that if they had other obligations in front of my business with them, I understood and respected the first come first served nature of the shop. Instead of a straight answer, the senior staff member present indicated that I was not being reasonable because he "needed to get these lunch hours out of the way." He told me that if I left the bike, my name and number, he would get back to me. I opted instead, to stay at the shop while they fixed the bike, again asking if the time constraint was too much to ask. They responded "whatever..." and placed the bike on the repair stand. I believed that they were about to start the repair, as I watched the shop workers then sit and talk amongst themselves. I soon realized that they had no intention of working on my bike until they had enjoyed an hour of sitting in the repair area of the shop. Clearly, they did not care to receive my business. I asked them if I was interrupting them from something by coming to their shop for my bike repairs. Their response was to exchange contemptuous smirks, roll their eyes and chuckling between themselves, as if to say "can you believe this guy" or similar sentiment. Further taken aback by their disrespectful behavior, I decided to take my business elsewhere and requested my bike returned. Ashland is a small community and the avid mountain biking community there, is very connected. I became aware of this when I learned that in just two hours time, word of my experience at this bike shop had spread to other mountain bikers. At least two Ashland regulars shared similar experiences at Bear Creek Bicycles with me, during trailside chats, later that afternoon. These other mountain bikers characterized the staff of Bear Creek Bicycles as "moody" and "hot & cold". I was told that my experience there was, "nothing we haven't heard before." If you read this review seeking a recommendation, I CANNOT recommend Bear Creek Bicycle of Ashland Oregon to you. If you are the owner or manager of Bear Creek Bicycle shop, WTF!! read more
