Had a lovely stay here at the Ashland Commons. The hostel was incredibly clean and welcoming and well-decorated: feels like a real home, not some anonymous hotel. Nice bathroom with shower, big kitchen and common area, lots of room to hang out. During my stay there was a minor crisis involving another guest but the staff and owner handled it very promptly and graciously. Would be happy to stay here again next time I visit Ashland! read more

The people who work at the hostel trade work and cleaning to stay. Do NOT give them your debit card or personal information ! Pay CASH only! I am a seasonal Firefighter /EMT and have stayed at the Commons since 2023 , never a problem and a great cheap place to stay. They have a new person named Tracey working there who has ran my debit card , that I know of, at least 2 times unauthorized last week. The first time she said she forgot to add service charges and the second time 15 minutes after my checkout time .I have been working nights this time at the local hospital, and it was very difficult to sleep there during the day with all the noise staff makes during the day. I payed on my card and extended for another day even though I was getting no sleep there and my checkout was at 1 pm , and Tracy called me at 1:15 and was upset and for the 2nd time had said she ran my card unauthorized. It did not go through so I needed to leave promptly , that I did. Tracy seemed to want to argue with me regarding their " house rules " and the cleaning. She is very aggressive and bullish and lacks respect for people. I got a text message , acting on behalf of management she claimed, that I was banned, and I still owed for a night stay ? I thought well maybe extra for a late checkout but a whole night for like 15 more minutes of sleep.I am assuming that she will continue and keep running my card unauthorized. This is why she said I was banned , and staff safety. BE CAREFUL AROUND THESE people. read more

It is different without the former owner, Candy B. Heartbreaking. I'd been there many times, loved the place. Still clean and tidy but confronted that the house guitar was gone, stolen. Followed by a Screaming CURSING long Staff Meeting outside. Current director seemed dedicated to as little interaction with guests as possible, in a hurry, total text message communication. What you have here is a management issue. Very sad and unusually surprisingly empty. The terrific, friendly establishment which I used to go to... is gone. read more

I'm writing this review from the perspective of someone who's never stayed in a hostel before. I had the pleasure of getting to sleep in the same common room with the same people who live at this hostel, work there, and manage the place. Can't thank them enough for helping me feel welcome in what was a rough adjustment from having never stayed in a shared living space before. The place is nice and clean, feels safe, the staff there is very professional and caring, and the beds are comfy. If you need a convenient place to stay while in Ashland Oregon, don't look any further than the Ashland commons. If I ever find myself back in Ashland I will most certainly be staying in the Ashland commons hostel once again. read more

I have been bringing my students here for years and this was the first time I stayed here since Candy has bought the property. Now, please remember this is a hostel... not a 5 star hotel... think dorm room style, homie. When I tell you that Candy couldn't have been more kind to our school group, I mean Candy is the sweetest human. Our space was clean and comfortable. The old owners used to make you pay extra for sheets and towels, so we would bring our own but Candy doesn't have that policy. It's so sweet that I don't have to make my students lug sheets and towels all the way from California anymore. There is another woman who works at the hostel, I can't remember her name, and she is so sweet and kind too. I cannot really express how much it means to me that the Commons isn't a space that's been taken over by capitalism and is able to offer an affordable yet clean and comfortable place to stay. My students would not be able to afford this trip if the Commons didn't exist. Thank you, Candy for your kind and generous heart. read more

Despite booking a private 2 bed room for myself and a friend, upon arriving at 4pm and checking in we were informed we had been downgraded, and no real explanation was offered. The difference between beds is only 10 dollars, but the common beds are in the main room, and guests continued to arrive as late as 12:40pm. These guests were allowed to go into their private rooms they had reserved, despite arriving well after hours for the hostel. I cannot recommend staying here if it matters to you which room you re sleeping in, regardless of what you actually reserved. Update: Owner compensated me for the move. read more

Kim, the owner is just magical. She's really helped to keep this space warm, welcoming and wonderful. The kitchen has EVERYTHING from a blender to cupboard filled with food items that have been left over by other hostel visitors. In my room I have been given a huge bed and my own closet space for me to hang my clothing (which is not guaranteed for you if you stay here but is unheard of in the world of hostels). The one warning I have for you is that this hostel allows small children and families with children to stay here. There was a screaming one year old baby here for 2-3 days and this was quite unpleasant for everyone in the hostel. Even with this, I am so incredibly happy with this hostel. It is the best one I've experienced in the world thus far when it comes to price, amenities and spaciousness. Definitely will stay here again if (when) I return to Ashland. read more

This place was a FIND. It has everything you need and tons of impressive extras all while keeping the costs competitive with lesser-equipped options. Plus, it's run by people who seem to really care about their guests! We made a last minute reservation for which we couldn't check-in until 2AM. Not only did they give us a deal on the price since we only needed to be there a total of 9 hours, but they also gave us very specific and helpful instructions on where they'd leave the key and how to access the suite. I guess I could be biased though. I fell in love with the place once I saw how clean everything was (and how easily and efficiently they enable the guests to help keep their spaces clean as well)! read more

One of the rare hostels that I actually felt at home in! When I found myself in Ashland at 10pm without a place to sleep, I was about to buckle and pay for a pricey hotel. But then I called Rob, and even though he was home for the night, he came out to meet me at Ashland Commons and let me in. It was such a beautiful space! Super cozy and spacious, with its own kitchen, two futons, a bookshelf full of good finds, and a tv with an old vcr and a collection of movies. I only shared a room with one guy, who was friendly and totally respectful and aware of noise and light etc. when I went to bed before him. Rob was extremely thorough and kind, giving me advice on where to go in the morning, showing me a map, giving me lots of options and flexibility...he even called me after he left, because he'd forgotten to give me wi-fi instructions and wanted to make sure I could get internet! Really solid guy. Thanks Rob! I slept like a baby! read more

BED BUGS!! I woke at 4 am with bites all over my body. Promptly packed my bags & left. I can only hope that I am not carrying any bugs home with me. This place is really nice, clean and comfortable for a commons/hostel. A gem in area. The owners are super friendly and helpful. $26 per person a night for private room or $25 in common area you will not beat the price while staying in Ashland. Great solo, pair or groups. A little off the main strip but very quiet. Other ppl are respectful. Eating out or cooking in, workable kitchen w/ plates, etc. your in town and want to save $$$ it's a must. I stayed here for 3 nights in July 2014, my second time staying here. It's a very clean, quiet, and relaxing hostel. Kitchens are very well outfitted and sparkling clean. Beds are comfortable and clean. Fast wi-fi. The location is great - a relaxed 20 - 25 minute walk to historic downtown, Litho Park and the Shakespeare Festival. Owners are incredibly pleasant, courteous and truly care about their hostel and their guests. Highly recommend! read more

BED BUGS!!! I took a large group of students in June, 2014 and the bugs were not gone. We found bugs in three different beds in the facility. WE reported it to the owners and they said they would come in and treat the space. I asked for other accommodations and they said they had other rooms but not for the entire group and not for the entire time. They did not offer another solution. We stayed, trusting their treatment and expertise. We came home with two people covered in bites (who were not sleeping in the beds we found affected) and live bugs in our bags. read more

BED BUGS! We took a group of kids here and were horrified to find little black bugs climbing all over the bunk beds and mattress. Some girls even came home with bugs in their hair and clothing. Not good. read more

If you want a nice place to stay in Ashland at a very fair price, Ashland Commons lodging/hostel is a great choice. I recently spent three weeks at the Commons and it was a very enjoyable stay. The location on Williamson Way is convenient and quiet. This hostel can handle large groups to individual travelers (like myself). The owners, Rob and Linda, are friendly and accommodating, and they take great pride in keeping the place clean and nice. Highly recommended! read more

Ashland Commons is recommended highly by this reviewer. Owners Rob and Linda make the Commons a wonderful place to stay for a night, a week or more. They understand the traveler's needs and charge very reasonably. They are warm, helpful hosts, know Ashland well and their property is busy and successful -- easy to see why. Their guests are usually interesting folks you'd like to know better. Their shared accomodations are terrific, kitchens are simple and work well for a single guest or a group., I am a property owner living out of the U.S. and have stayed several times at the Commons. I do not have faith that the owners know how to handle a situation when it arises. We stayed two nights and when we arrived we were advised that there was girls bathroom and a boys bathroom. There was a group of young men backpackers and one went into the bedroom that was attached to the girls bathroom once. Because of this the only person staying in the room (which had 4 beds) was allowed with permission by the owners to lock the room from 11 to 8 in the morning which in turn locked all the women in the hostel out of the women's bathroom and shower. This left the remainder of occupants to use one bathroom and shower (approximately 15 people) and I was not advised of this until the next day. Imagine my surprise in the middle of the night and the next morning trying to get ready. A few women that were staying in another room asked if we could have a key to use the restroom (as there were four beds in that room and only one person booked) and get ready the next morning (some had class at 8:30 am) and were advised no. All other options as moving the woman into another shared room, etc was not even attempted. read more
