I've been going to Asha's for the past decade, and it is easily one of my favorite tea spot in the East Bay. If I could describe Asha's in a few words they would be: modern yet classy, sophisticated yet also comfortable, aesthetic, high quality, and creative . Fruit Teas: Asha's makes the best fruit teas. The blend of quality tea with fresh fruit is perfect. If you're looking for a non-caffeinated alternative, I highly recommend the sparkling fruit drinks which, in my opinion, are underrated. My favorites flavors are grape, Asian pear, and strawberry. Milk Teas: I really like the Jasmine milk tea. It's light and the floral fragrance is beautiful. If you're feeling adventurous, I also recommend the jasmine taro milk tea for more texture and a subtle taro flavor. If you're open to a slightly heavier drink, the Hojicha milk tea is very nice. Always recommend adding in boba and I usually order with whole milk. Everyone raves about Asha's matcha latte, but sadly I'm not a big fan; the matcha latte's milk taste is too strong for my preference and stronger than their other milk teas, so I prefer anything that's not the matcha latte. Space: I love Asha's modern design like the high ceilings and display of their teas. They have a good variety of seating too (e.g. communal table, seats for pairs, and individual high chairs, etc.). You can people watch by the window or hide in the corner. Whenever I work at Asha's, I'm always productive. It's the perfect study / work spot. Service: Teas are made very quickly (within minutes). You can also self order in a kiosk or online. Asha also offers WiFi (it can be spotty when there's too many people), and there are a few outlets for you to charge your devices. One downside is finding parking around downtown Berkeley, which is very challenging. However, if you're planning to spend a few hours at the cafe or plan to do other things around the area, then I think it's worth it to visit Asha's. Price: Asha's drinks are a bit on the pricier side. Not saying they need to bring down the price but one thing I wish Asha would bring back is a loyalty rewards program. I've seen other boba tea shops do something similar and every time I get a discount or a free drink after a certain number of purchase, it makes me feel appreciated as a customer, especially if I'm a regular there. I've heard a couple of good things about this place so thought to give it a try finally. Firstly, the ambiance is great, nice open space with lots of seating and big windows. The service was very quick as I got my drink like 5 min within ordering. The drink options are so unique and cool I sort of felt overwhelmed with what to pick lol. I got a matcha latte less sweet with boba. The matcha wasn't sickly sweet and had a deep matcha earthy flavor which was nice! Came to pick up some mooncakes and thought to try it. Because why not? Asha is a cute little tea shop that also sells milk tea. I got the jasmine sea salt foam and my husband got the oolong milk tea. Both drinks were really good, but I like my jasmine better. It was light and floral. It's not ambient music either. Today is Kpop day. I have headphones on on max volume and still can barely hear the words in thru my headphones. Don't count on listening to lectures or getting emails written (or hearing yourself think) here. 2 - They don't intervene when aggressive panhandlers enter and linger. There is literally a sign they posted that instructs patrons to ignore a specific individual who has had numerous incidents here and with neighboring business and BPD. They won't stop him or ask him to leave; they just ask patrons to just ignore him while he hovers over you/your table for minutes at a time. I was here every day for a few days, and he came every one of those days, staying for at least half an hour making multiple rounds through the store and hovering. They claim he is nonviolent, but I've seen him try to ram down the door at Berkeley Social Club before (requiring BPD intervention). One of the my favorite tea houses! I love coming here to study or just to grab a drink and catch up with friends. My go-to is their matcha latte with lavender infusion. The Hong Kong milk tea is also really good! The drinks are lightly sweetened, but it doesn't feel that sweet to me at all (which is a good thing). You can def taste the high quality tea. I'm a huge matcha fan, having had some of the best in Japan, and I've been navigating my way through the Bay Area trying to see who really has "the best." I came here with my friend about 30 minutes before closing on a Friday night (10/13). The place was packed as expected, lots of people our age hanging out with their teas. It was a really nice vibe. Ambiance definitely 10/10! You order at a kiosk so there is no real "customer service." I ordered a matcha latte with regular sweetness and whole milk.. and I can honestly say that the ratio was off. The color AS SOON as I saw the drink.. already threw me off. It was very light green, and I immediately knew that this wouldn't be it.. My friend's strawberry matcha latte was a nice dark green and she said hers was really good. I'm not sure, do they put more matcha in the "specialty" lattes (the ones with mango/strawberry puree)? There was too much milk in mine that I just barely tasted the matcha. I wanted to bring it up to the barista but I just didn't want to be a nuisance especially since they were closing soon. You probably shouldn't read my review because I am biased towards Asha. Personally, if there could only be one tea place in Berkeley, I would say Asha. (Disclaimer: people do say my taste in milk tea is questionable). Could not have gone through this year without the matcha latte and HK coffee milk tea. They ran out of boba back on MLK day in 2019 and another time on commencement day (5/14/2022) which was hilarious. Thought the matcha affogato was eh. The buns have fillings that are OOZING, I would recommend the ube one. They also got ceremonial matcha and pins and mochi muffins. Came on a Sunday. There were quite a bit of people inside. I got the taro milk tea at half sweet with boba. There was barely any taro. I didn't taste it at all. The jasmine was watered down. The tea was barely there. The boba was really good though. It was warm, chewy, and the sweetness provided a sweetener for my less sweet drink. I'm always on the hunt for a high quality matcha drinks, and I feel like Asha Tea definitely checks that box. They have so many matcha options on their menu, but I ended up going with the tried and true Matcha Latte with almond milk. The color of the matcha is incredibly vibrant and the flavor wasn't too bitter, even if I asked for less sweetness. We came here on a Saturday afternoon and the tables were full with students studying, but hopefully you can grab a table. The teas here are clearly made fresh and have a lot of flavor. The only thing is that the boba is a little less than other places. My friend and I aren't coffee drinkers, but we wanted to find a nice cafe to sit down and catch up at. When I looked on Yelp for cafes, Asha Tea House popped up and immediately piqued my interest. I've passed by Asha Tea House before but never had a chance to visit. I thought it'd be good opportunity for us to check it out! We came in around 4:30 p.m. and were the only customers. Menus are scattered throughout the walls of the shop, as well as on a table and by the register. They offer a variety of teas from milk teas, pure teas, fruit teas, and herbal teas--which makes sense considering they're a tea shop. The cafe is spacious and open for both pick up and indoor dining, which my friend and I took advantage of. I ordered a Regular Pure Hojicha Tea, which I was super excited about. Hojicha is one of my favorite teas and I was overjoyed to see that they offered it. I opted to have it iced but it normally comes hot. The tea wasn't sweet, had a toasty flavor, and was refreshing. Next time I may try their latte version or have it hot. My friend ordered a Regular Matcha Latte with Almond Milk, since they were out of Soy Milk. They specialize in brewing flavorful ceremonial grade tea, which reminds me of the stuff my grandparents used to drink. It's true, their drinks are definitely less sweet - if I ever come back, I'll probably get 1.5x. I actually find Asha to be a bit overhyped--the teas themselves and the boba are solid and consistent but I don't find them to be super flavorful. Perhaps my tongue isn't able to pick out the nuance in the flavors they're using, or I've gotten too used to cheap teas and over sweetened drinks. I've been a regular at Asha Tea House the past 6 years. The Hong Kong milk tea and Masala Chai are my favorite drinks. You get a strong authentic tea flavor which I love. The owner David and staff-Shaine, Zoe, and Josie are all amazing. They are friendly and make sure the drinks are made to your satisfaction. The inside of the tea shop has fun vibe. The ambiance is some of my favorite, very lowkey place with wooden simple tables and I would love doing work here. I got a large iced matcha latte w/ almond milk, strawberry puree, and boba (was tempted to add grass jelly, but I didn't feel like being extra lol) Boba - light, soft, chewy, not too sweet Matcha - potent and aromatic Strawberry puree - better than Boba Guys... Asha's puree tastes so damn fresh and full of strawberry seeds, which feels like I'm eating a whole strawberry in the drink lol. Almond milk - standard "Pricey" sure, but you're paying for quality. The overall drink was perfect in texture and flavor. Lightly sweetened without having to mention that was my preference! There were plenty of other tea options, but I'm glad I went with this drink.
