Great fresh food and excellent service! FIFA was amazing server and everyone else. Made my friend's birthday really memorable and fun!

My go to Best sushi in Studio city. It's very casual but the lively. The staff are all very nice. Shout out to Manny. I normally have him recommend the best dishes and all have been fantastic especially the ones with Truffles. Amazing sushi quality and definitely recommend the place.

One of the best experiences we've had in a long time! Everyone was so helpful, and the service was excellent from start to finish. Lovely and very authentic environment. My favorites are - Hotate - Ono - Salmon - Kanpachi miso - Toro special - Bluefin tuna sashimi - Yellowtail special - Peach sea bass And we loved the green tea and black sesame ice cream. Arigatou chef! Will be back soon and next time we hope to sit at the bar

The service and food is always top-notch at Asanebo. Elisa G, The Award Winning Yelper, me, and a friend of ours shared about 10 various dishes. Our favorite was the kinmedai, melts in your mouth fish. We also shared the Asanebo sake, nodoguro, mirugai, tuna, uni, sweet shrimp, scallop yuzu, grilled asparagus, kurodai, tai, homemade oshinko, and brussel sprouts with scallops. Our server was excellent, Fo, and so was Manatoro.

We had a reservation and we requested to be seated at the bar. When we walked in, we were instantly greeted by very friendly servers and directed us to our seats. It is a pretty small place and not loud which we enjoyed. Our server was sweet and attentive. She noticed that I was struggling to figure out where to put my purse and she directed me to the hook under the bar. Our food was amazing. Each item was carefully curated so that it highlights the fish and brings out the best flavors. Our chef was very nice and had great recommendations. He recommended the tuna cheek and it ended up being our favorite the entire night. The cuts were very fresh, buttery, and melts in your mouth. They also have A5 wagyu. Overall amazing. It is pretty pricey but theres a reason for it. It's high quality, well curated pieces and made fresh. The only issue I had was the chopsticks. I was expecting a better one. It had a lot of rough uneven edges and very splintery. I got a splinter on my hand but thankfully not in my mouth but i was very careful the rest of the ni as I could feel the wood pieces.

Yamaimo fries

Finally got to come back. Valet $10. Still one of the best options for Japanese food in LA. Very thought out dishes w great quality ingredients. Service was very solid. Server knew all the dishes and her suggestions were spot on. Took great care of us. We tried a few cold dishes, salad, some fried yamaimo. Then finished with some sushi. They have an awesome selection of fish you dont find at other sushi bars. Hyu san seasoned and crafted each piece meticulously. What a treat. The brown tea homemade icecream was insane. Thank you so much!

This is one of the absolute best and must-visit sushi restaurants in Los Angeles. I made an early reservation for Friday night at 5:30 but arrived around 5:15. I was the only diner for almost an hour but had the honor of sitting at the bar in front of Chef Tetsu's station and he is seriously one of the nicest, most humble, and most talented sushi chef's in Los Angeles, in California, in the USA, in the world. I kept ordering dish after dish, fish after fish, because each and every item put in front of me was so fresh, unique, flavorful, and delicious. Chef Tetsu is very welcoming and happy to talk about all things sushi, Japan, his restaurant, staff, and more. His staff too are all so incredibly kind and attentive. I loved all the nigiri, each one with a complex and unique flavor profile. My favorites were the golden baby snapper, zuke tuna, marinaded salmon. The miso black cod was so soft, umami filled and delicious. The truffle was outstanding. The spicy tuna crispy rice was perfect. The yaki toro was seriously butter. The scallops were incredible. The ono handroll was excellent. Everything was sublime. Worth every single penny and every single second at Asanebo. I can't recommend this place enough

Dessert for our anniversary. It was refreshing and delicious.

Teetering between a 3 and a 4 star review. Honestly, I've pressed 3 stars and then 4 stars a number of times lol Customer service 4.5 stars Food 3.5 First time here. Came for our anniversary. I had certain expectations from everything I've heard and read about this sushi spot. Sometimes it will exceed or meet your expectations and sometimes it will not. For me and hubby this didn't quite meet my expectations. I feel really bad for saying that because the staff was so friendly and the customer service was really nice, but I have to be honest. We started with a glass Asanebo sake ($20). The server was kind enough to split it in half for us, which was a really good portion. It was a full sake glass for each of us. That was very nice and appreciated. We started with the spicy tuna crispy rice, and the popcorn shrimp. Both were pretty good. The popcorn shrimp was outstanding! Fresh and hot and light. I almost ordered another order lol. Spicy tuna crispy rice is something I always order everywhere. This was good, but not mind blowing. We ordered the miso black cod to share. That was good but again not mind blowing. I've had better. Next we ordered a handful of Nigiri and a spicy tuna cut roll and a Toro cut roll with pickled radish. Everything was OK. Nothing bad, but nothing wow. I really had high hopes for this place. Quality did not match the price point IMO. I would come back, but it won't be for a while. There are so many sushi spots in Los Angeles. Like I said, the customer service was great! Everyone was so sweet and attentive. They came out with a refreshing dessert for our anniversary, which was beautiful and yummy.

As someone who genuinely loves sushi and enjoys Japanese cuisine several times a week, I feel pretty confident in sharing my thoughts here. Unfortunately, from the underwhelming service to the quality of the food, this experience was disappointing. In my opinion, it barely earns a 3.5 and certainly doesn't deserve a spot on the Michelin guide. Throughout dinner, our server was noticeably dismissive--treating us differently than their regulars and, at one point, only addressing my husband. For a place aiming to be high-end, this kind of service felt tone-deaf and outdated. And let's talk about the food. For a $400 bill, the fish simply didn't deliver. None of it tasted particularly fresh or flavorful, and surprisingly, nothing was imported from Japan. The salmon was from Scotland, the uni from Santa Barbara. Now, I love good Santa Barbara uni, but this was priced as if it were Hokkaido's finest. They also insisted their nigiri didn't need soy sauce, but frankly, if every piece wasn't topped with some garnish or sauce, I don't think they would've had any flavor at all. Overall, it felt more like style over substance--and for that price point, I expect both.

Came here with a buddy after a Six Flags trip since it was on the way back home. Called to get a reservation same day and got seated at the sushi bar. We found street parking not too far but the area can be a little tricky. The sushi bar sits about 8 ppl and they also had some tables as well. I always choose the bar if I can cuz I love interacting with the chefs. We both opted for their sushi omakase course and it did not disappoint!! The best experience was probably with the sushi chefs and manager. They were absolute hoots and were just an absolute great time. The sushi itself was also to die for. I loved the sea bass miso soup, the fish was buttery and melted in my mouth. I pretty much loved all the nigiri except for the mackerel which isn't general is not really my favorite. They were all seasoned perfectly with really great accoutrements that paired well with each fish. We even got some dessert and the staff was nice enough to include samplers of all their different handmade ice creams when we couldn't decide which kind to get. And it was all delicious. I honestly cannot wait to come back again, I would rank this top 3 of sushi places I've been to when you contemplate the quality, price, and service/experience. Loved it and honestly can't wait to come back again.

Best sushi experience of my life!!. Got the 2nd tier omakase ($180 pp) and worth every single penny. The quality of the ingredients is second to none. You can taste the freshness! Highly recommend sitting at the bar. Chef Hiro was awesome!

Food was very fresh, atmosphere was relaxing and customer service was excellent. Heard about this restaurant on TikTok. Will be back to try out more foods. 5 Stars.

Scallop House Special Baby Spinach Salad
Gomar M.

The food was absolutely fantastic. Every single piece in the $140 omakase was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. We also ordered the wagyu, which was rich and perfectly done. I left completely full and satisfied. No complaints about the quality or taste of the food. But for a group of five with drinks, the total came out to around $1300. At that price, I expected more than just great sushi, I expected a full experience. Instead, the whole thing felt rushed. All 14 pieces were served in groups of seven at a time. Not a single piece was presented on its own. There was little to no explanation of what we were eating, and that took away from the depth and intimacy an omakase experience is supposed to offer. Also, they were pretty insistent about not using soy sauce, which felt unnecessary. If I want to use soy sauce, I should be able to. It's not a dealbreaker, but it's one of those small things that adds to the overall vibe. So while the food was top notch, the pacing and lack of attention to detail in the presentation really held it back. I might recommend it for the flavors alone, but if you're looking for a slow, memorable omakase experience, this one doesn't quite deliver.

How much is omakase lately? I know the prices have changed since the last pic uploaded into yelp of the menu.

160. Not worth it. They rush you like it's fast food.

Are there any Vegan options?

Yes. They have a veggie roll and they have various appetizers that are vegan. The Himachi Tomato is vegan. Also, Mushroom Risotto and various grilled vegetables. Basically, you can make it work.

How many pieces are in the omakase A?

12...

How much is an omasake? We're planning on going in lunch time. Will you be full afterwards?

Omakase A is $95.. Omakase B is $145ish. OR you can just do straight Omakase. however many fish you'd like. I had 12 pieces and it was $85.

I wonder how to make reservations if they don't have an answering machine?

Call during the business hours.

Tonight I called just to ask if there was any chance my pickup order could be ready a little earlier than the estimated time. I wasn't asking to cut in front of anyone or have my order prioritized--I completely understand it's a Friday night and restaurants get busy. What was frustrating was the phone experience. The person who initially answered seemed a little irritated by my question, put me on hold for quite a while, and I ended up being transferred around before eventually speaking with the General Manager. By the time I got an answer, I had been on the phone for close to 10 minutes. The manager explained that they were extremely busy and that my order was actually going to be delayed. That part I completely understand. I just wish there had been some type of courtesy update letting me know, especially since the pickup time given online was no longer accurate. Even a quick text or call would have been appreciated and would have saved the confusion. I'm not upset that the restaurant was busy or that my order took longer. It was really just the lack of communication and the way the phone call was handled that left a bad impression tonight. I'll probably still come back because I genuinely enjoy the food here, but I do hope the customer service and communication are a little better next time.

The soup here is absolutely incredible. The 3K Seafood Miso Ramen (spicy ) has become my ultimate comfort food. To be honest, I barely ever try the sushi because the ramen became my favorite from the very beginning, and I always end up coming back just for it. There's seriously some kind of secret ingredient in it that gets people addicted. I also love the shishito peppers, the garlic spicy edamame, and their lava cake. I've tried the sushi a few times and it was good, but for me the real standout will always be the ramen. I come here almost every week or every other week and still never get tired of it. This is already my third year in a row coming here consistently -- there honestly hasn't been a single month where I haven't visited at least once. If you're looking for a luxury or trendy restaurant, this is probably not the place. The restaurant feels simple and casual, but the food is what keeps people coming back. The staff is always very kind as well. One small suggestion: the garlic edamame is amazing, but the garlic smell stays on your hands forever They used to provide gloves when we asked for them, but recently they haven't had them available anymore. The ambiance was nice - definitely didn't feel like I was in Studio City! Started off strong with the 5 mushroom miso soup and shishito peppers. When they say 5 mushroom, they mean all the mushrooms! It's probably one of my favorite soups of all time - so much umami! I will say, it's very filling. The shishito peppers were tasty as well. Also got the halibut carpaccio, the double shrimp toast, and the Marlon roll. The halibut carpaccio was the star - so delicate and melt in your mouth, and the yuzu sauce and pink peppercorn were the perfect accompaniment. The Marlon roll was very good as well - would have liked a little crunch with some cucumber in there. Needed a little more texture. The double shrimp toast was good, but I will say the toast was not so much crispy as it was soggy. It was good, but not my favorite. Service was good - our server gave a good recommendation and checked in on us. Definitely want to come back for more items on the menu!

It meets all the checkmarks you'd look for in a nice restaurant in terms of environment, service and food. Ambience is romantic. Dim lights, fake candles, and carefully monitored air conditioning to ensure the quality of the food is enjoyable from the moment it leaves the kitchen until you eat. Service was professional and each waiter has an appropriate number of tables assigned to make sure each customer feels like they're being cared for. Price is very affordable for an omakase, and considering what you're getting, the price seems justified. Having had a few omakase experiences prior to Sugarfish, I have to say this was an underwhelming experience. I came because of its reputations amongst my friends and acquaintances. Unfortunately, it did not have the creativity and innovation I was looking for in an omakase. Usually, I'd see chefs take more risk by showing off a new combination of ingredients. Instead, it looked like the price of the omakase was just the price of each dish you could get at any other sushi restaurant. I'm talking a few slices of sashimi, a hand roll and some nigiri. Reiterating - highly recommended for people new to sushi. Minimal decision fatigue and you get to taste a variety of plates. You can order the plates of the dishes you like someplace else.

We started with the chili garlic edamame, and they were delicious. Not too spicy with the right amount of garlic. A great start. Next, we all ordered the Kiwami Tray. This is their signature "greatest hits" sampler. It includes: Yellowtail Jalapeño (Yellowtail sashimi topped with jalapeño), Salmon Avocado (Salmon sashimi served with chopped avocado), Albacore Crispy Onion (Seared albacore tuna topped with crispy onions), Baked Crab Hand Roll (Rich crab meat baked with dynamite sauce wrapped in soy paper) and Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna (Pan-fried crispy rice cakes topped with spicy tuna). It's still a great value for what you get, but it looks like it might be a victim of shrinkflation. I won't speak for my dining companions but for me, the salmon and yellowtail pieces were about the size of my thumb to the first knuckle, so a bit disappointing. The albacore pieces were a decent size but not the freshest (bordering on mealy with a couple of the pieces) and the crispy onion today was more onion than crispy. The crispy rice with spicy tuna was the best thing as they tasted as I had remembered. Usually my favorite is the baked crab roll, but again, there seemed to be more rice than crab. **SIGH** Dessert was also a mixed bag. We ordered the red bean flavored tempura ice cream. It was ok. I could taste the oil, so that kind of ruined it or me. We also ordered the yuzu flavored mochi ice cream. THAT was the item that made me smile today. Nice and citrusy and not too sweet, it hit the spot. Too bad they didn't actually make them. They also gave us a complimentary birthday scoop of vanilla ice cream, so that was nice. The service today was out of whack, too. Usually they are right there with refilling our tea cups, but we had to ask several times to come and fill our cups. We also had to ask them to bring the wasabi and ginger, and usually that's automatically done. Not to mention they only brought one set for three people? Huh?? I choose to think this was just a one-off, so hopefully I can give them the five stars they usually deserve and earn on my next visit.
