I didn't have a great experience here. My dress (which I needed tailored for my engagement photos) came out OK in the end, but the process was stressful, and I feel like the tailor's tableside demeanor could be improved and be less abrasive/defensive. My dress needed to be taken in on top, so I made an appointment, and she pinned all the places that need to be taken in, even making some suggestions, like taking in the waist a smidge. I said OK and was given a quote and was on my way. She said the dress would be done in a week, but it was not done in a week. I came back a week and a half later to find the dress had been taken in way too much and was now too small, especially at the waist, which hadn't been a concern for me, but at her suggestion, had been taken in. There were also flaws introduced during the tailoring process that caused some of the fabric to stand up instead of lay flat. I panicked at all of this, and instead of assuring me, she claimed I must have gained weight that week. I hadn't. She claimed I must be on my period and bloated. I wasn't. She complained it was going to be a lot of work to fix. I left and cried on the way home, thinking my dress was ruined. I came back in a final time and the dress fit better and the flaws had been minimalized. Still, considering how much money I spent, this should have been a much better and more pleasant experience. Sanam and all of her girls are THE BEST. Without getting into too many details, let me just say that three weeks before my wedding, I did not have a wedding dress. A family member had decided to make my dress for me, and I (stupidly) trusted that she was capable. When the dress I was supposed to wear arrived in the mail, it was a disaster and I was in a panic. I took my disaster dress to three other tailors and all of them looked at me like I was crazy and then told me there was nothing they could do. It was impossible to fix this one, and they didn't have time to start over. I went to try to buy a dress off the rack, which is nearly impossible to do in 3 weeks, and there just wasn't anything. One of my bridesmaids had taken her dress to Sanam to get it hemmed after reading the awesome reviews and we decided we should take my dress to her to see if she could fix it. She calmed me down, looked at the dress, told me she really couldn't do anything with that one, but that she would make me the dress of my dreams. I didn't believe her, but she proved me SO wrong. The next Sunday she went with me downtown to pick out fabric, and two fittings later, I had the most gorgeous dress I'd ever seen. She worked through the night to make sure my dress was ready at 7am the day we were leaving, and she even called me after my wedding to wish me love and happiness. Do Not Go Here! This was by far the worst and most overpriced tailoring experience. I brought in 2 suits to have taken it and one bridesmaids dress to be altered and was charged $280 AFTER I was originally quoted $160. My clothes were supposed to be ready on Monday morning . Monday morning they called saying Monday evening. I came Tuesday morning and they were not done. I was told the women would deliver that evening for an event I had Wednesday. They called at 6:15PM telling ME to come pick it up they were not delivering. I came Wednesday and after paying the day before was accused of not paying and told I could not have my clothes. I have brought almost my entire wardrobe here for alterations and I will continue to do so for as long as I live in Los Angeles. Sanam and her staff are incredibly knowledgeable, helpful and patient. I collect many rare vintage pieces that I would be worried about bringing in to most tailors for fear that the garment would be irreparably and incorrectly altered, but I trust Asal tailoring with even the rarest and sentimental of pieces. Bring your garments here if you want the highest quality alterations! I've attached a few photos of pants they've altered in several places. Both pairs were slightly tapered from the knee down, hemmed slightly above my ankle bone, and the waist slightly slimmed down. As most brides-to-be will tell you, it is very difficult to hand your wedding dress over to someone to have it altered. You search for the perfect wedding dress and end up having an emotional bond with it (as silly as that sounds) and you usually pay more for it than anything else you've ever bought! So you want to find someone you can trust to carefully alter your dress to perfection and care for it while they have it in their possession. Though my bridal shop (Lovely Bride) recommended two options for alterations, I decided to bite the bullet and trust other Yelp reviewers who glowed over Sanam's work. Well, it's my turn to glow! Sanam is the kindest woman who will treat your dress like it is her own. She did an absolutely amazing job on my wedding dress! When I tried on my dress before purchasing, it had fit perfectly in the bust but was a bit tight in the hips. I had opted to order a size larger because there wasn't much extra fabric and I normally have a hard time losing weight in the hip area. When the dress arrived, it was obvious that not only had I lost weight in the hips, but the bust was now far too big! Besides removing the train and a layer of the tulle underneath to slim down the A-line, which I had wanted to do from the beginning, now I had to have the entire dress altered to fit me. The dress is made of a very light almost gauze-like material so I have to admit that I was nervous about having it altered because it was so delicate. Sanam did an incredible job altering every bit of the dress without making it look like anything had been done at all! I had multiple fittings and she always had convenient appointments available in her calendar. She also listened attentively during each appointment about how I felt in the dress and what my concerns were. She offered her honest opinion when I wasn't sure exactly what to do to fix a problem (always ask the expert!). I had such a great experience that my maid of honor and my mother both took their dresses to her for alterations and we were all extremely happy with the results. I would take all of my alterations to her in a heartbeat. She is extremely talented and very good at her trade. I am very much someone who would rather take a recommendation from a person I know over a yelp reviewer. But, I needed to find a tailor to alter my maid of honor dress for my sister's wedding and Asal Tailoring was nearby and had some great reviews. And now I know why! I came in to pick up my dress the day before I left on a flight for my sister's wedding and when I tried it on, we all noticed that I had lost some weight - specifically in my chest (which, of course that's where I would lose weight). I panicked and I said I was leaving the next day and they told me to just come back in a few hours and they would have it fixed at no extra charge. I brought my leather jacket in to be tailored, and she did an amazing job. It's now as though it was made just for me. Then I took the same jacket back to have snaps installed so the asymmetrical lapel wouldn't flap around so much when the jacket was open. Again, perfect job. The second I walked in here I felt unwelcomed and uncomfortable. I clearly angered these women by asking if they accepted walk ins. I offered to leave and come back but they said it was fine (even though they were clearly annoyed). Trying to move past the awkwardness I quickly put my dress on and proceeded to show them where I needed it altered. All three women immediately started poking at all the areas that the dress was flawed and telling me I was too big for the dress. I told them I knew it was too tight in the bust area but it was gaping around my waist. No, they insisted it was too small for me and not a good dress and that I should return it. Wait, isn't that what alterations are for? They treated me like I was an idiot and would not stop poking at me until I took it off. I left the store in tears with the owner saying "next time, sweetie, call first." Humiliating terrible experience. These women are rude and have no sense of customer service. From other reviews it sounds like they do decent work but at what cost? Ugh. read more

They put a "bustle" on my dress which didn't work at when I told her that she told me to just use safety pins. Why did I pay for a bustle then???????
