I have been a long time fan of Asako since it first opened in Mortlake. A few months ago it changed hands and while the brand, menu, and prices have remained the same, I have to sadly say the quality of food and so much more importantly the LOVE in the food has gone.
If you had asked me six months ago, I would have, and did say, that it was the best Japanese food I had ever eaten and represented exceptional quality at a reasonable price.
Unfortunately, after two recent visits since changing hands, the Sashimi is clearly not as fresh, ingredients seem to be lower quality across the board, the owner doesn't know the menu, I had to point out what I was ordering and tonight I was served croquette that was ice cold in the centre and had to send it back as well).
I *hope* these are just teething issues, but, after two identical visits, I can no longer recommend Asako and for the lower quality produce, the menu now seems expensive.
Sad times, I wish the new owner the best, but, won't be going back again. read more
