Awhile back I was taken to Manmaruya in Campsie and really enjoyed my bowl of ramen but was quite shocked at the sub standard level of service we received there. This time we gave Manmaruya in Ashfield a try for lunch. Just across the road and a short walk up Liverpool St from Ashfield mall. For me the most important thing about ramen is the soup. Manmaruya has both pork and chicken soups. I personally always go for the more traditional pork based soup. I really enjoyed the one here as it is still tasty and flavoursome but at the same time not too salty unlike other ramen restaurants. The Soft Shell Crab roll was probably not the best tasting roll I've eaten but satisfied my craving for sushi that day. However it was well presented and I am definitely one to appreciate pretty looking food. Overall I thought the food is reasonably priced and the serving size was decent. SERVICE Unlike the Campsie branch this one was far less busy and so we did not have to wait to be served. The food came out within 10mins of ordering as well. VERDICT I think this is one of the better ramen places in Sydney and would recommend ramen lovers out there to give this place a try. read more

Great Japanese place. They sell all the usual favourites and also a huge range of ramen. I've yet to try the soups, but I can vouch for their great gyoza, sushi, beef tataki and the fact they sell Goshu Blue (awesome Aussie sake). Take away seems to be a popular option, one that I took advantage of, but they have a pretty big space so next time I'll be eating in and giving their tonkotsu a try (didn't want to risk a take away job on that one and driving it home in the car!) read more

My girlfriend and I were pretty hangry by the time we sat down to dinner, so we ordered a fairly extensive range of food, starting with Gyoza, Tako Yaki, braised eggplant and a soft shell crab roll. These also came with complimentary miso and salad. The gyoza were full of flavour, the tako yaki were piping hot and soft, the eggplant was so tender it was like butter, the crab went down a treat with a good dose of wasabi and soy sauce. For mains we had chicken katsu don and sashimi on rice. Both were fantastic. The chicken was nice and crispy and the sashimi was fresh as can be. Finally, a great Japanese restaurant in Ashfield! Sometimes when I visit Ashfield, when I can't eat any more dumplings, all I want is Japanese food. This place is great. The ramen is some of the best I've had in Sydney. The dinner boxes are also great. Really, it's all great. Except the service, which is just good. I think I'll be spending some time here. Not sure what to eat near Ashfield, we agree we should give this one a go. Greeted with the usual Mosi-mosi, we were surprised by the wet towel on top of the menu (literally). Ordered Chicken Katsu Bento Box and Shio Butter Corn Ramen. The food came out quickly. The Ramen is very yummy so is the Bento. there's fried gyoza, sashimi, salad sea weed and picked ginger and let's not forget the Miso Soup. Waited an hour before we post this as we want to see whether there is any sign of PMS ( post MSG Syndrome). Glad to inform there us none. We will definitely come back. read more

1st came here Sunday night and decided to something different, never having had Ramen in my life. Tried 2 ramen dishes and was impressed and satisfied with the product. Decent quality, flavour and portion sizes for the price you pay. The interior is a bit cramped and when it's busy it can be a touch noisy but overall acceptable. It appears to have a consistent stream of business. The menu is extensive and has something for everyone. The staff and service while not terrible has room for improvement. They appear to be a bit absent-minded and some have poor English so communication isn't as easy as it should be and generally at times service can be a bit slow. 1st visit they made a error with my bill but rectified it. Also as I was browsing the beer selection through the transparent fridge door I got a dirty look from a staff member, like I was going to steal something. Overall good food for a reasonable price will deff be returning. read more
