Tons of options and the happy hour goes until 9pm. So you have time! I tried several things on the happy hr menu! It is a very large selection, plus their non happy hour menu is robust. So the fried foods are definitely a chop. The grease was old and you can taste it in the breading. Also the egg rolls and tempura tasted freezer burnt and too greasy yikee. Came here on a Friday evening to enjoy some end of the work week sushi dinner. It is a very unassuming spot in a strip mall with ample parking. Upon entering, we were warmly greeted and quickly sat at a table. Its a pretty casual spot with cute decorations and seemed spacious, granted there weren't many people dining in. They have evening happy hour during the weekday that extends to 9PM as well as all day on the weekends which seems pretty nice! We ordered a couple things from the happy hour menu as well as rolls off the main menu. We got fried flounder and salmon sashimi as happy hour specials. Both were good, panko breaded flounder that was very crisp, albeit not a lot of fish but the salmon was nice and thickly sliced and very buttery. The rolls were good but nothing was a major standout. I did like the volcano roll (its not the same as the one I have been chasing) but we did find some foil underneath it as it was a baked roll. My partner was concerned he ate a piece as he felt something in his throat. Overall, this was a nice little spot for sushi, nice service, cute ambiance. Asahi is located near NRG Stadium in a small plaza. It has good service, a nice happy hour 4-9pm weekdays), and lots of specialty rolls on the menu. The volcano roll was a winner and they had oddly good jasmine green tea that didn't seem like something out of a tea bag. I was a bit disappointed in the unagi (eel) roll. It was pretty small for $11 and lacked flavor. The New York roll was kind of a mid tier roll - better than the unagi but not quite as flavorful as the volcano. Happy hour literally every day from weekdays from 4-9pm (close) and weekends 11am-9pm (close). That's literally all day! Don't even get me started on the prices. This is a hidden gem I just found and I'm loving it. I've been twice this week. The rolls are so fresh and not fishy at all and the prices are amazing. First time I sat inside and was originally not so sure but then convinced. Rolls are kind of small but I mean they are like $6-11 dollars so you can't even complain. Second time I ordered online for pick up and one of the things I worry about is getting sushi Togo and it's not as fresh by the time you get them home. Wow... I totally did not see this restaurant, but luck struck and driving around during my lunch paid off. This restaurant is small but I loved the decor. It was simple, and had a rustic family feel. They used the space very well. This is a restaurant when you find yourself looking up at the ceiling to take in the decor that is everywhere. The staff was kind and attentive. I sat by myself at the bar and even though I wasn't in view of the server i was checked on and served in a timely manner. The food was great. I like to order a spicy tuna roll to just see how well the rolls are made. I was blown away. I recently found myself craving sushi during the apocalypse, so thought I'd give take-out from Asahi a try. But unfortunately, I found it lacking in a few departments. Firstly, while the nigiri was pre-dressed with wasabi, there was none provided for the maki. I don't claim to be an expert on technique, but the rolls were loosely packed and popped open too easily, spilling their fillings and leaving us scrambling to collect the rice and fish debris. We got the Deluxe Sushi entrée, which is a decent deal in terms of quantity at $25 for eleven pieces of nigiri (salmon, yellowtail, tuna, white tuna, escolar, eel, shrimp, mackerel, red snapper, roe, clam), three pieces of tuna roll, and a few filler pieces of cucumber roll, along with miso soup and house salad. The Miso Shiru was a little too watery and lacked pungency. The salad was literally just iceberg lettuce, but the ginger-peanut dressing was decent. We found the Nigiri subpar to average. The tuna had muted flavor and minimal fat content, the mackerel was fishier and more potent than I typically enjoy, and the hamachi just tasted "off." The salmon, escolar, and roe nigiri were our favorites, with the rest falling somewhere in between. We liked the fried garlic on the white tuna nigiri, though the fish itself tasted a little like cooked tuna from a can. The separate maki rolls we ordered were better. The Poseidon Roll, which featured pepper tuna and sriracha, was sweet and spicy with the herby aroma of scallions and a peppery burn at the end; the flavors meshed really well but were also very in-your-face. The Indiana Roll, spicy tuna inside and fresh tuna plus avocado on top, was nice and refreshing. In general, a lot of the fish had a chewier texture and the flavor wasn't especially luscious or deep. Nothing necessarily stood out as excellent in our meal, but some stuff was just plain bad. I also think Asahi should consider using smaller take-out boxes, as a lot of our sushi had toppled over or become impacted against the sides of the container during the commute home. Not our best experience with take-out sushi at this price point, but perhaps we caught Asahi on an off day. read more

I come here every Friday after work (so about 8 p.m.) to enjoy their last hour of happy hour. They have $5 wines, $6 sashimi, and $3 sides. Ahhh mean, how can you say 'no' to that? For most of my life I have erred on the safe side of sushi, aka california rolls and vegas rolls, but here, I went into full sushi-sashimi mode. My go-to dish is typically the yellow-tail sashimi, however, I play a weekly game with the chef who picks out whichever sashimi I should try. Their happy "hour" runs for a good portion of every evening and largely consists of a wide variety of tempura goods for $3.50. They make great appetizers at a low price point. The regular menu is actually quite extensive. Some reviews weren't keen on their ramen broth but we had their udon noodles and the broth was fairly flavorful. We got a little excited and ordered too many special tempura rolls. So our meal ended up being on the heavy side. But that was our own fault.
