I had my wedding dress altered here for 5x less than what I was quoted for the same job at the bridal shop. My entire dress needed to be altered to fit my shape since the size I bought was way too big. It had to be taken in along the form-fitting seams, the heavily beaded straps needed to be shortened, it had to be hemmed, and finally bustled. I am very picky about how the waists look in dresses because when I have had them altered in the past, they always look puckered or slightly off. They did a wonderful job here, though. They even redid the bustle for me when I changed my mind from a center bustle to an off-center one. I went there 3 times for fittings so I could get everything perfect, and he always let me take my time showing him what I needed. I was sure he would charge me more in the final bill than what he quoted me initially since I had bugged him so much--but he didn't. The end result was amazing, and the price was even better. I came here based on the yelp reviews. I had already spent a lot more on my dress than I planned and didn't want to get sucked in to the over priced alterations at the bridal store. My dress needed a lot of alterations - I'm usually about 2 sizes smaller on the top than the bottom! I had also lost about 15 lbs & I'm really short. The dress was all lace and the hem had beautiful detailing on the bottom that I didn't want to lose. He was able to take the lace off and re-attach it. It also had to be taken in on the top which was also covered in lace and there were a few other little details that needed fixing. When the dress was finished, it looked like it had never been touched and was a perfect fit! I had to ask for a couple little changes here and there, but there were no extra charges and he was always so patient with me, even with my family taking tons of pictures during the process. It also took less than 2 weeks for the whole process. My Husband is such a procrastinator and ended up ordering his kilt jacket from England which arrived about a week before the wedding! He took it in just a few days before the wedding and had it altered as well. They finished it very quickly and the prices for the coat as well as my dress were very reasonable! I added a few guest pictures from our wedding that show a little bit of the lace incase anyone wants to see the detail work he did. I've had them hem and take in numerous pairs of pants and shirts, and the work has been fine. I'm glad that other people have had 5-star experiences, but I think they're just okay. They are friendly, the prices are wonderful, but I had a pair of pants that I had to take back because the seam looked weird. They also used black thread on a grey pant. Not a big deal because it was hidden on the inside, but it still felt a little less professional. After a month's time and the third botched attempt (and me throwing some extra money his way because I felt bad at how much time he was spending) I had to just take it from him and find another tailor to fix it. This place is the real thing, and the owner, Nabi, is pretty much a badass. I live on the Northern Peninsula and have easy access to all the alterations shops in SF, but instead I get on the BART and take the long trip to Concord to come to Arya. On my first visit, I took in two pantsuits that were much too big because I had lost 20 pounds. Alterations to fitted jackets can cost the earth and be really fussy to boot, but he was confident that he could cut them down to my new size. On my second trip there, the day I went to pick up the suits, I also took a pair of corduroy jeans and an evening gown (a very lucky thrift store find) to have them altered. Mind you, I didn't have shoes yet, so I asked him to hem the dress for 1" heels. When I tried on the jackets, we agreed they needed a little more work, so he held on to them. The pants were fine -- they're easier to size down -- so I took them home. Today I picked up the whole bundle. The cords make my butt look great, if I do say so myself. The jackets fit perfectly, and so does the gown. Even better, I found shoes a couple of weeks ago, and when I wore the dress with the shoes we found that the length is precisely right. IT'S LIKE MAGIC. For all of that work, he charged me $210. I feel really good about the cost and would use this shop again in a heartbeat. It is strange the level of my disappointment with this seamstress considering the rave reviews. I paid $65 for a simple bridesmaid hem and the entire wedding was tripping over my dress. I told Arya to hem it for FLATS so there wasn't any miscommunication misestimation with heel height. In fact, even using heels, I was still tripping over my dress. It was miserable and dangerous. This tailor is amazing! I used to live in the east bay and would go to him regularly. I recently moved to SF and I still drive to concord to have him alter things for me as his turnaround time is quick, he truly takes his time with each customer, and his prices are incredible. I had to get a dress taken in last minute in SF and it cost me $45. He charges $10-15 for the same service. I was also in a bind and needed to pick up a few things from him right before the bay bridge closed for Labor Day weekend - he stayed open until 8 one evening so that I could drive from SF when I got off of work to pick up my things in time for my upcoming vacation and before the bridge closed. Basically, he rushed to finish my alterations early based on my situation. Super nice man. Amazing customer service. Amazing prices! Definitely 5 stars! read more

I'm very happy with the work of Nabbi, the tailor who works here. I've been steadily taking pieces to him on a weekly basis now. Every week I would bring him an item to have altered, and pick up something I dropped off last week, and I have never left his shop disappointed. He's done a number of alterations for me including slimming shirts, shortening sleeves for my shirts, taking out the inseam on trousers, taking out the waist, bringing in the waist. When you bring something in, he'll let you know what the price is upfront and tell you when you can pick it up (usually 5-6 days for single item/small jobs). He only takes cash or check, but that's not a big deal to me. I've made it a habit to bring my checkbook with me every time I go into his shop. read more

I have four stars because I felt like it was still a little too loose and he could have tightened a bit more, but overall it was so affordable to have the alteration after losing a dress size.
