While I do think the teacher was a dancer at some point, her ability to teach anyone under the age of 13 is not there. She cannot stay ok task for anything and that isnt good for little kids. Five months of weekly practices and none of the kids (under 10) could remember their recital. 5 months!!!!! The issue with payments is still on going. Every negative comment on here was clearly from a parent who had a child in the school and wasnt related to her. Find somewhere else. Anywhere else!!

Miss Laurie genuinely cares about all of her students and she makes sure that she gives everyone her individual attention and criticism (if needed). That is a quality that most businesses lack. The business is very family-oriented and the students in her classes end up being like family. My family has always loved going to both the dance lessons and swim lessons. This place is AMAZING and if you don't believe me, check out the Facebook page and do your own research. We started out In intermediate her second year. This was the recommendation. Her new teacher Ms. Jennifer is stand offish and I wasn't comfortable speaking with her. I attempted to have a conversation with the owner/teacher regarding my daughter's progress in February. She spent most of it with her back turned to me looking for music for her next class or something. I was then informed that the intermediate class was too advanced for her. We finished out the year because I had just paid the recital fee. I really hate that we will no longer attend but customer service goes a long way for me.

I was looking for an alternative to the downtown location and wanted to check it out. It's a bit…read moreof a drive from where I live but may be a better option considering the downtown location's parking debacle. (A parking service was contracted with to monitor the parking lot. Without fail, I am ticketed each and every time I try to use the Amon G. Carter location. This is in spite of "checking-in" in order to get a parking pass. What a mess!) The Ryan Family YMCA is smaller by comparison, but with a few extra amenities, such as an outdoor pool. The weight equipment also seems a lot newer than what I was accustomed to. Overall, I thought this particular YMCA was a good fit for the neighborhood it's located in; however, I may try to give the downtown location another chance. Who knows?!

The showers take 10m to warmup... the drains are clogged... a bunch of equipment is out of order and some is broken with no sign on them... seems like someone stole a bunch of the cable attachments and the owners just never replaced them... and it's fairly dirty compared to other YMCA I've been to. They are putting cheap soap in the EcoLab soap dispensers... Just a lot of corners being cut here and the owners aren't reinvesting into the quality and maintenance of their facility

The studio itself is homey and well-loved: no, it's not a brand new giant warehouse with luxurious sprung floors. But those scratched wooden floors and smoothly-worn-down barres carry so much history and love and care. I took adult ballet classes here for a year in roughly 2022-2023. All of the instructors were amazing, and treated adult students exactly like they would have their teen students - we weren't babied or not taken seriously. Margo herself would sometimes come to sit and watch our classes; she is an absolutely lovely woman and still has all the grace and elegance of her younger years. Would highly recommend MDSB for adult ballet classes, which occur on Tues/Thurs evenings. I would supplement my classes here with classes at Texas Ballet Theater on the other days and felt like I got a very robust ballet education at both schools!
